摘要
Heterotopic ossification typically occurs after a systemic inflammatory process and may lead to limitations in range of motion, depending on its severity. We present the case of a 52-year-old male who developed left shoulder pain and stiffness after a prolonged hospitalization for the treatment of COVID-19. Subsequent imaging revealed the formation of bone in extra-osseous sites surrounding his left shoulder joint, which led to auto-fusion of the glenohumeral joint. He underwent heterotopic ossification excision and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty in order to restore functionality. Given the severe damage of the surrounding soft tissues, the patient experienced instability and ultimately required revision to a hemiarthroplasty.
