Transactive control for real-time electric vehicle charging management under uncertainty

This chapter presents a transactive real-time EV charging management scheme against uncertainty, for example, PV generation and EV charging requirements. Instead of direct EV charging control, a transactive energy concept–based approach is applied to address real-time EV charging management. The proposed scheme allows the fleet operator (FO) to schedule its net electricity exchange with the external grid under uncertainty and maximize its profit in real-time operation. Meanwhile, the EV owners are not required to provide the FO with further private information, for example, future driving plans, but only their real-time charging requirements and the preference setting of the response to the pricing signal in the proposed scheme. As such, only minimal necessary information is required from EV owners. The EV owners’ charging requirements and preference setting of the response will be respected by the real-time charging management, and their contributions to the demand response will be reimbursed by the settlement in the proposed scheme.
