Selecting Methods for a Modular EEG Pre-Processing Pipeline: an Objective Comparison

•An evaluation framework is proposed based on quantitative metrics to \ort the choice of the preferable EEG pre-processing strategy.•The effect of different pre-processing approaches is explored and quantified on an illustrative application.•The most critical steps result to be the segmentation of the data and the re-reference method, while the Independent Component Analysis algorithm has a small effect on the cleaning procedure.
