Abstract
Current is an important parameter for monitoring the operation of power system, which is related to metering, protection and control. To realize the efficient, convenient and accurate measurement of impulse current, a new current sensor of electromagnetic induction with spiral structure is proposed in this study. The sensor is based on the series design of a double-layer Archimedes spiral without an iron core. By increasing the effective magnetic flux reception per unit volume, the saturation phenomenon of the iron core is avoided, and the sensor's sensitivity is increased. This study examines the operation and sensitivity analysis of magnetic field sensors based on the spiral structure of Archimedes. The frequency characteristics and measurement properties of the magnetic field sensor based on Archimedes spiral construction are examined by creating the electromagnetic and electric circuit simulation model of the magnetic field sensor. In parallel, an impulse current test is carried out and a current sensor prototype built on a PCB is produced. The simulation and experimental results indicate that the current sensor can realize the non-contact measurement of impulse current. In the test, both the peak value error and time parameter error are better than 0.4%.
