•The MnF2@NC composite, consisting of micro-nanostructured pores and comprising MnF2 nanoparticles encapsulated within a nitrogen-doped carbon shell, is achieved through a cost-effective and one-step fluorination strategy.•As anode for LIBs, the MnF2@NC electrode exhibits exceptional cycling performance and rate capability.
