Performance Analysis of a FSK-Based VLC System in Terms of BER, SNR, and Distance Range for Different Waveforms: Sinusoidal, Triangular, and Square

This paper presents the study and performance analysis of a linear model of a VLC system considering different types of LED current waveforms, in order to support design decisions of switched-mode converters regarding the type of waveform that should be chosen for FSK-based modulations. The BER and SNR results were obtained for sine, square and triangular waveforms, considering a distance range of 0.5 to 30 meters. The results showed that the square waveform is less sensitive to noise, reaching distances up to 13m with null BER, while for the triangular and sine waves the range was only 4m, considering the same luminous noise signal in the channel.
