Water vapor corrosion behaviors of Yb2SiO5-Yb2O3-Si-SiC ceramic fabricated by tape casting and reactive melt infiltration

To reduce the influence of TGO on EBCs performance, the Yb2SiO5-Yb2O3-Si-SiC ceramic was prepared by tape casting and reactive melt infiltration in this paper. During high-temperature water vapor corrosion, the ceramic formed a unique layered oxide layer structure to protect the material. On one hand, TGO is consumed by the reaction of Yb2O3 and Yb2SiO5 with SiO2; On the other, the structure makes no TGO layer between the oxidized and unoxidized regions, which means that even if the TGO layer is stripped, the material still has a dense Yb2Si2O7 and Yb2SiO5 mixed layer as a protective barrier.
