Assembly and characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome of Descurainia sophia: a medical plant producing glucosinolate

As a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine, Descurainia sophia has various reported pharmacological activities such as prevention of chronic diseases, cardiovascular protection, neuroprotection, anticancer, antioxidant, and has high nutritional values, but its mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) has not been reported. In this study, the D. sophia mitogenome was sequenced, assembled and annotated using next generation sequencing technologies on the Illumina HiSeq and PacBio Sequel platform.
