Anti-bacterial nanofibers and their biomedical applications - a review

Antimicrobial products are in high demand due to the sudden outbreak of Sars-Cov-2. For a long time, bacterial infections have posed a great threat to human lives. The new emerging technology to address this alarming situation is using nanofibers with antibacterial properties. Nanofibers have a large surface area that supports the effective incorporation of antibacterial agents. Several biocides have been incorporated by different techniques into the nanofibers that show strong antibacterial activity. Due to their morphology, porosity, and flexibility, nanofibrous structures are being used in a variety of applications, including wound dressing, tissue scaffolds, and biomedical devices. This review summarizes the manufacturing process of antibacterial nanofibers and their applications in medicine with antimicrobial capability.
