Design Approach of Three-Phase DCX-LLC Resonant Converters for Improving Current Sharing Performance

Three-phase LLC resonant converter operated as dc transformer (DCX) has been widely employed in high-power applications owning to its high efficiency and reduced output current ripple. It is essential to achieve current sharing among the constituent phases. From a perspective of introducing current constraints, a family of three-phase DCX- LLC resonant converters with automatic current sharing are derived and summarized in this paper. Then, the current sharing mechanism is revealed and the basic idea for improving current sharing performance is proposed from the point of design. With a large inductance ratio and a small quality factor, the current sharing performance is less-sensitive to parameters mismatch. Based on that, a general step-by-step design approach is proposed for the whole family of three-phase DCX- LLC resonant converters. Finally, a 15-kW prototype is fabricated and tested in the lab, and the experimental results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed design approach.
