摘要
The popularity of Chenopodium quinoa seeds has increased in recent years due to health benefits with superfood qualities. Studies to date on the health benefits of quinoa have restricted to animal models, and the results provide weak to moderate evidence to support improved plasma lipid profiles. The present research aimed to examine the health -promoting potential of Chenopodium quinoa seed extract against cigarette smoke -induced acute lung injury in Wistar rat. Results showed that body weight was significantly increased while hematology analysis showed non -significant differences in RBC count. The results revealed the serum analysis for leptin, thyroid profiling, cholesterol, vLDL and triglycerides levels were significantly raised in control positive in comparison to all the other treatment groups. While a significant decline in serum GCK level was observed in the control positive. Histopathology of the lung tissue revealed low infiltration of leukocytes and reduced thickening of the hyaline membrane was observed in treatment groups as compared to the control positive. The expression level of Bcl-2, Foxa1 and IGF-1 was significantly down regulated in the treatment groups relative to the control positive. Overall, the results indicated that Chenopodium quinoa seeds extract restores the damaged lung tissue, reduces oxidative stress -dependent inflammatory response, regulates and promotes cell growth.
