S3 Guideline Home Enteral and Home Parenteral Nutrition of the German Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (DGEM)

Medical nutrition therapy which includes enteral and parenteral nutrition is an essential part of nutritional therapy. Medical nutrition therapy is not limited to hospital treatment but can also be used effectively and safely at home. As a result, the importance of medical nutritional therapy has increased significantly and has become an important part of the therapy of many chronic diseases. For people with chronic intestinal failure, e. g. because of short bowel syndrome, medical nutritional therapy is even life-saving. In this guideline, the evidence for medical nutritional therapy is presented in 161 recommendations. The guideline is primarily aimed at doctors, nutritionists and nursing staff; it serves as information for pharmacists and other specialists but can also be helpful for interested laypersons.
