摘要
It is still a great challenge for applying high-activity catalysts in alkaline water electrolysis, due to their insufficient durability under industrial conditions. To address this issue, a highly durable Pt at folded-Ni(OH)2-Ni (Pt@fNi(OH)2-Ni) cathode has been designed for use in harsh and industrial conditions. The Pt@fNi(OH)2-Ni with a low HER overpotential of 27 mV is prepared using an in situ electrodeposition method based on electrolyzer, which reduces hydrogen production energy consumption by 0.53 kWh/Nm3. During the 600-hour acceleration durability test, the Ni(OH)2 shrinks and wraps around the Pt nanoparticles, forming a protective shell, enhances catalytic activity and structural stability, and protects Pt nanoparticles from degradation and impurity ion attacks in harsh industrial conditions. Using low-cost and high-durability catalysts can offset costs with saved electricity from just a few dozen hours of electrolyzer work in most scenarios, creating significant economic value throughout its life cycle.
