He was the principal investigator of two recently completed, major, multi-year projects that are funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for applying advanced tissue-typing methods to imaging cancers in the prostate gland. Currently, Dr. Feleppa is the principal investigator of a third major grant to detect metastatic cancer in lymph nodes. These lymph-node studies are based on an earlier, nine-year project that demonstrated the great potential value of our ultrasonic methods for detecting lymph-node cancers. He also serves as lead co-investigator on an NIH-funded project to identify cancerous thyroid nodules. Dr. Feleppa has authored and co-authored more than one hundred peer-reviewed articles in technical journals and several book chapters on biomedical ultrasound. He also is the co-inventor on numerous patents assigned to Riverside Research.
