Sebastian Barzaghi

During my academic experience, I found myself primarily interested in the organization of information, its underlying form and structure, and only secondarily in its content. These wide subject interests and this focus on information helped me get the biggest picture about a given subject matter and operate at its level of representation. In a way, the ability to think about a resource in terms of the features that matter to its organization and retrieval has been the red thread connecting all my interests together. In particular, the act of organizing data and information into findable, usable knowledge for the betterment of society is what fascinates me the most. Since earning my Master’s degree from the University of Bologna, I've been working with research centers (such as CIRSFID and DHARC) on various projects about the description and retrieval of recorded information produced by human agency. Medieval manuscripts, Renaissance letters, policy papers, technical documentation, datasets - no matter the subject, my role was focused on modelling information in various ways in order to incite its transformation into operable, understandable knowledge. My specific contributions helped the projects stakeholders achieve their goals through the implementation of strategies related to Data and Knowledge Management, especially in terms of organization, documentation, curation and sharing. In addition to these topics, I'm also interested in UX design, Storytelling, Data analysis, Natural Language Processing, and Linked Open Data, but my interests focus and expand continuously as I keep learning about new things every day.
