As of 2017, there was a student population of 30,000 registered students with more than 430 faculty members and 200 administrative staff. In 2019, the Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki merged with the Technological Educational Institute of Central Macedonia, the Technological Educational Institute of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, and the International Hellenic University in order to form a new University, with the name of the latter.
The aim of this study was to investigate the parlors’ throughput for dairy ewes and influencing factors in some European countries and in Greece. A great progress was done in this direction with the simultainous improvement of the animals’ milkability, the technological characteristics of milking machines and the technical knowledge provided to the farmers. Nowadays the average parlors’ throughput for the “Casse” system milking machines is 160-200 ewes/milker/h, while for the “Carrousel” type milking machines it is 200-280 ewes/milker/h. In the case of installation of the automatic cup removal system the parlors’ throughput ranges between 300-400 ewes/milker/h. In Greece, the average throughput for the “Casse” system parlors was found to range from 59 to 127 ewes/milker/h, while for the “Carrousel” type milking machines was found around 90-100 ewes/milker/h.

This survey paper presents a collection of the most important algorithms for the well-known Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) using Self-Organizing Maps (SOM). Each one of the presented models is characterized by its own features and advantages. The modes are compared to each other to find their differences and similarities. The models are classified in two basic categories, namely the enriched and hybrid models. For each model we present information regarding its performance, the required number of iterations, as well as the number of neurons that are capable of solving the TSP problem. Based on the experimental results, the best model is identified for different occasions. The paper is a good starting point for anyone who is interested in solving TSP with SOM and desires to grasp a lot about this renowned problem.
Transhumance is a traditional farming system present in Greece for many centuries including the seasonal migration of people and their livestock that follows predetermined area-specific practices. Purpose of this paper was to record the practices performed during movement to uplands and of the strategies applied during reproduction in order to reveal differences among the studied areas as well as to record the degree the system has evolved. Non-parametric statistical methods in a sample of 551 herders were applied to depict management practices while the regions were separated into four groups according to climate and geographical features. The results revealed differences among the studied areas revealing separation of males and females, uncontrolled mating for the majority of the herds, early weaning and adoption of strategies such as oestrus synchronization, reflecting the effort of the producers to correspond to the seasonal needs of the market for lambs/kids as well as to improve the performance of their animals.
The purpose of this study was to demonstrate whether addition of BFR interventions to a postoperative ACL rehabilitation program can reverse muscle atrophy, improve strength, and restore imbalance between the two limbs following ACL Reconstruction (ACLR). Sixteen patients aged 15 to 40 years, that had been treated with ACLR, were randomly divided into two exercise groups: the experimental group that performed a BFR protocol in addition to the standard physical therapy, and the control group that performed only standard physical therapy. Interventions were performed during weeks 12-18 postoperatively. Measurements at the beginning and after the completion of the intervention program included assessments of a) muscle morphology of the injured limb by measuring the perimeter of the quadriceps at 10cm and 20cm proximal to the superior patellar pole, b) muscle strength deficit at 60°/s as measured using the CYBEX isokinetic evaluation, c) clinical outcome using IKDC, KOOS & VAS Scores. There were statistically significant improvements in thigh circumference of the BFR group compared to the control group at 10cm (1.4 ± 0.9% vs 0.6 ± 0.9%) (p<0.004) and 20cm (2.25 ± 1.6% vs 1.1 ± 1.2%) (p<0.001). Significantly greater attenuation of knee flexors strength deficit at 60°/s was observed in the BFR group (p<0.024). No statistically significant differences were found neither in the strength deficit of the extensor muscles (p>0.226) nor in clinical scores between the two groups. This study suggests that BFR intervention during rehabilitation of patients following ACLR are beneficial in terms of muscle mass and strength.
