Animal behavior serves as a reliable indicator of the adaptation of organisms to their environment and their overall well-being. Through rigorous observation of animal actions and interactions, researchers and observers can glean valuable insights into diverse facets of their lives, encompassing health, social dynamics, ecological relationships, and neuroethological dimensions. Although state-of-the-art deep learning models have demonstrated remarkable accuracy in classifying various forms of animal data, their adoption in animal behavior studies remains limited. This survey article endeavors to comprehensively explore deep learning architectures and strategies applied to the identification of animal behavior, spanning auditory, visual, and audiovisual methodologies. Furthermore, the manuscript scrutinizes extant animal behavior datasets, offering a detailed examination of the principal challenges confronting this research domain. The article culminates in a comprehensive discussion of key research directions within deep learning that hold potential for advancing the field of animal behavior studies.
Esta resenha tem por objetivo apresentar um panorama geral da América Latina ao final do século XX e começo do século XXI, tal como os sociólogos Fernando Calderón e Manuel Castells elaboram na obra A nova América Latina. Os autores refletem sobre os impactos da globalização nas sociedades latino-americanas, analisando o apogeu e a decadência de modelos de desenvolvimento que aí foram adotados – o neoliberalismo e o neodesenvolvimentismo, a saber. Abordam a crise política experimentada pelos países que a compõem, uma vez que grande parte deles ainda não conseguiram resolver questões cruciais da democracia. Ademais, tratam sobre a dinâmica multicultural recente da região – caracterizada pelo narcotráfico; pelos protestos sociais e lutas para o reconhecimento dos direitos dos povos originários (bolivianos, mexicanos, chilenos e argentinos) e Afrodescendentes no Brasil; pelos fenômenos migratórios; pelas mudanças observadas na organização familiar e pelo surgimento de outras igrejas cristãs devido à crise da Igreja católica. No desfecho do livro, consideram que o desafio dos novos movimentos socioculturais, renascidos nos últimos vinte anos, consiste em ressignificar os direitos humanos e a ética tanto na sociedade quanto na política.

In the scent of his workshop, he finds meaning. This is a story of growing into inner freedom - of a man who built not only a carpentry shop, but also found himself.
The paper reports the clinical case of a 5-month-old girl with possible syphilis not identified during pregnancy or at birth, but diagnosed following the discovery of the disease in her parents. The case highlights the criticality of early diagnosis of congenital syphilis despite regular prenatal screening. Starting from the case, the epidemiological, clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of congenital syphilis are examined.
Cities all over the world are rethinking their mobility policies in light of environmental and quality of life objectives. As space is one of cities' scarcest resources, mobility's spatial footprint is increasingly scrutinized as externality to mitigate. Similar to passenger transport, goods transport is envisioned to shift towards efficient and zero emission mobilities. To achieve an urban logistics system that eliminates inefficiencies and fossil fuels, the logistics sector requires space to unload, cross-dock, consolidate and stock goods closer to their destinations. Such a 'proximity logistics' is however at odds with 'logistics sprawl', the historic outward migration pattern of logistics facilities. With policies and planning, cities can support the (re)integration of logistics facilities in urban areas to facilitate and enable the shift to an efficient urban logistics system. Logistics still being a largely neglected policy subject in many cities, knowledge on how to approach this (re)integration is hardly available. Therefore, we compare two pioneering cities: Rotterdam and Paris. Both cities have an established track record in advancing urban logistics policies and are spearheading the practice of planning for logistics. Based on interviews and policy analyses, we develop best practices on how to address the integration of urban logistics facilities for cities.
