The American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) is a professional organization of physicians, cardiac sonographers, nurses and scientists involved in echocardiography, the use of ultrasound to image the heart and vascular system. The organization was founded in 1975 and has more than 17,000 members nationally and internationally. The American Society of Echocardiography promotes cardiovascular ultrasound and its application to patient care through education, advocacy, research, innovation and service. The society also provides research grants and scholarships to support advances in cardiovascular care.ASE's membership consists of physicians, cardiac sonographers, nurses, physical scientists, lab managers, and students.ASE has created numerous guidelines regarding the use of echocardiography including monitoring heart dysfunction after chemotherapy. A mobile app developed by ASE called iASE has been rated as one of the top echocardiography appsASE joined Choosing Wisely in 2013 to reduce unnecessary medical testing with echocardiography.
To provide a contemporary update on the American Society of Echocardiography’s ImageGuideEcho Registry and present a case study of an individual institution’s experience with enrollment. Technical innovation in clinical echocardiography has expanded the impact of echocardiography in cardiovascular care and provides new opportunities to leverage clinical data to inform quality improvement initiatives and research. The ImageGuideEcho Registry is the first echocardiography-specific imaging registry in the United States and provides a data infrastructure for quality improvement and multicenter research. The ImageGuideEcho Registry continues to grow, offering a window into echocardiography care across the United States in a variety of practice settings. This early experience highlights its value, opportunities, and ongoing challenges. Continued innovation, such as the addition of primary images, will further add to the substantial value of the registry.
This report provides a descriptive summary of the ACC/AHA/ASE/ASNC/ASPC/HFSA/HRS/SCAI/SCCT/SCMR/STS 2023 Multimodality Appropriate Use Criteria for the Detection and Risk Assessment of Chronic Coronary Disease with an emphasis on the role of stress echocardiography.
Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) is widely utilised within many aspects of clinical practice, as such the demand placed on echocardiography services is ever increasing. In an attempt to provide incremental value for patients and standardise patient care, the British Society of Echocardiography have devised updated guidance for the indications and triaging of adult TTE requests for TTE services to implement into clinical practice.
