The Greeley House is located at King (New York State Route 120) and Senter streets in downtown Chappaqua, New York, United States. It was built about 1820 and served as the home of newspaper editor and later presidential candidate Horace Greeley from 1864 to his death in 1872. In 1979 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places along with several other properties nearby related to Greeley and his family.Built in the 1820s as a typical small farmhouse, it was expanded in the mid-19th century. Greeley, editor of the New-York Tribune, settled in Chappaqua shortly before the Civil War in the mid-19th century, living there with his family primarily during the summer. After a mob of citizens opposed to Greeley's abolitionist editorial stance threatened his wife at their earlier "House in the Woods," Greeley bought the farmhouse and moved his family there, near the hundred acres (40 ha) where he ran a small farm and practiced experimental agricultural techniques. After the war, Greeley built a mansion called "Hillside House" to live in, but died along with his wife shortly after the 1872 presidential election, where he ran on the Liberal Republican line against incumbent Ulysses S. Grant, so his children lived there instead, pioneering the suburban lifestyle that was later to define Chappaqua and its neighboring communities. Both of Greeley's other houses burned down later in the 19th century, leaving the Greeley House the only one extant. It, too, was almost demolished after falling into serious neglect in the early 20th century. After its restoration in 1940, it was used as a restaurant and gift shop. Following another restoration effort in the early 21st century, it is now the offices of the New Castle Historical Society.

1Following Pausanias: the Quest for Greek Antiquity
Céline Guilmet (book editor), Maria Georgopoloulou (book editor), Deborah Kazazi (book translator),William E. Hutton (review author)

In May of 2007, an international conference was held in Athens under the title Στὰ Βήματα του Παυσανίου (literally translated, In the Footsteps of Pausanias). The conference was a well-funded affair, with substantial support from the European Union and the Greek Ministry of Culture.Large glossy advertisements for the event were posted on the walls of the Athens Metro and in other high-visibility locations throughout the city. The speeches and paper sessions were accompanied by a poster display in the lobby of the National Hellenic Research Foundation and by a special exhibit of Pausanias-related material from the collection of the Gennadius Library of the American School of Classical Studies. The standing-room-only crowds attending the event were offered mementos to purchase, including a beautiful large-scale map showing the routes of Pausanias, and an attractive companion-volume in Greek bearing the title of the conference.Altogether, a remarkable amount of attention was lavished on an author who is little known outside of academia and who remains, in the eyes of many scholars of antiquity, a dull and uninteresting recorder of interesting information.A short time after the conference, an English translation of the companion-volume emerged with the title transformed to Following Pausanias; and it is this edition that is currently under review.

2THE EFFECT OF LOW LEVEL OF OZONE ON GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF RHIZOPUS SP. IN VITRO
    Hartati Oktarina,Ian Singleton,Sanjay Anthony-Babu

Postharvest diseases caused by microbial pathogens account for a great loss every year. Fungicides have been used for decade to control spoilage in conventional agriculture. It is generally known that long term use of chemical would harm the environment and bring resistance to organisms. Increasing public concern over the use of conventional fungicide due to health issues has prompted investigations to find alternative environmentally friendly control agent that might be used to suppress diseases development in storage. Ozone has been considered by researchers as an effective alternative to the use of traditional pesticides in food preservation because it leaves no residue on fresh produce so that safer to consumed. This work determined the effect of low level ozone exposure (180 ppb) on colony development and spores production of Rhizopus oryzae, R. stolonifer and R. microsporus var.chinensis in vitro. Two types of inocula were used, mycelial and spore, as both are responsible for spread of spoilage when stored with uncontaminated food. The tested fungi were stored in an ozone chamber at 7-8 oC for 14 days. Colony development was studied by measuring the colony diameter while spores production by time fungi was assed on the 14th day of the incubation period. Ozone exposure at 180 ppb has varied result on colony development and spore production on each species examined. Overall the work suggests that continuous low level of ozone exposure at 180 ppb for 14 days has different effect on different species depend on the ability each microorganism to counteract with ozone exposure.
