State University of New York at Purchase (commonly Purchase College or SUNY Purchase) is a public liberal arts college in Purchase, New York. It is one of 13 comprehensive colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system. It was founded by Governor Nelson Rockefeller in 1967 as "the cultural gem of the SUNY system."Purchase College confers the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BS), Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Bachelor of Music (MusB), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Fine Arts (MFA), and the Master of Music (MM). As a requirement for the BA and BS degree, students undertake a senior project in which they devote two semesters to an in-depth, original, and creative study under the close supervision of a faculty mentor. Similarly, the BFA and MusB studies culminate in a senior exhibition, film, or recital. Master's degree programs culminate in a thesis and the MFA and MM culminate in an exhibition, recital, or related presentation.
Constructed soils (CSs) are important for rehabilitation of degraded lands, carbon (C) sequestration, and urban agriculture, but little is known about the development and dynamics of organic matter pools in these soils. In this study, we tracked these pools over 21 months in CSs (1/3 compost and 2/3 fine glacio-fluvial sediments) planted with eight different vegetation treatments with densimetric and enzymatic approaches. Time was the main driver influencing soil parameters, followed by vegetation. A high diversity "All" treatment had a significant impact on soil development, notably enriching mineral/sand-associated organic carbon (MSOC) and nitrogen (MSON) by 15% and 12%, respectively, compared to a non-vegetated "Bare" treatment. The presence of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) in the vegetation treatment was associated with low values of nitrate-N, particulate organic N (PON), hot-water extractable carbon (HWEC), and beta-glucosidase. These CSs appear to be undergoing rapid soil development driven by organic matter accumulation processes that facilitate nutrient cycling and accumulation of stable MSOC.
This research investigated 4- to 8-year-old children's learning preferences based on teachers' responses to peers' pragmatic (Study 1, 2021-2024, N = 100, Mage = 6.56 years, SDage = 1.41, 50 females, 61% White) and naturalistic (Study 2, 2024, N = 101, Mage = 6.24 years, SDage = 1.50, 57 females, 55% White) questions. Children evaluated teachers providing (i) explanations with semantic content vs. nonexplanations and (ii) nonexplanation Socratic vs. authoritarian responses. Across both studies, children preferred learning from teachers who offered explanations. In Study 2, with age, children distinguished between nonexplanations, favoring teachers who provided Socratic over authoritarian responses. Overall, children increasingly distinguish between different nonexplanations based on question domain to make inferences about a teacher's future credibility.
Over the past three decades, the discursive turn in psychology has illustrated the social, political, and contextually sensitive nature of race and racism. In distinction to "mainstream" psychological approaches, which might treat race and racism as cognitive or sociostructural phenomena that influence our social lives, discursive psychological work is distinctive in that it has treated race and racism as embedded in our social life, with a concerted focus on how race and racism are oriented to and managed in our social interactions. In this article, we identify the significant contributions of discursive research on race and racism in contrast to mainstream psychological approaches. We then outline ways of advancing the discursive psychology of race and racism through a focus on anti-Black racism to argue that discursive psychological studies can provide a situated investigation of race and racism through (a) prioritizing experiences and responses of Black people to racial encounters and policies, (b) demonstrating how anti-Black racism engages with the routinization of Whiteness, and (c) showing how aspects of sociohistorical context inform the production and negotiation of race and racism. These will propel discursive psychological studies on race and racism to provoke impactful avenues for future research.
In a recent publication, some electric dipole forbidden, quadrupole allowed Delta J = +2 and x-type transitions were observed in the chirped-pulse Fourier transform microwave spectrum of two conformations of cyclopropylchloromethyldifluorosilane. Many of these transitions arise from a handful of mixed states and mechanisms are proposed through which these transitions become weakly allowed. Observations of electric dipole forbidden, quadrupole allowed transitions in rotational spectra are unusual for molecules which contain a chlorine nucleus owing to the small quadrupole moment of 35Cl and 37Cl; thus, we believe we are the first to observe x-type transitions arising from perturbations caused by a chlorine nucleus. These transitions represent a breakdown of the meanings of the J, Ka and Kc quantum numbers, leaving only F as a "good" quantum number to describe the interacting states.
