Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) is a public community college based in Athens, Texas. It has four campuses serving five counties across the southeast and eastern parts of the state..
Our study incorporates high-resolution, multivariate ecological niche modeling (ENM) to test whether two putative state-threatened mussel species in East Texas (Fusconaia askewi and F. lananensis) are ecologically differentiated. We forecasted suitable habitat to identify any differences in the taxa's habitat associations, using a total of 60 environmental layers comprising climate, soil, and hydrology in a multivariate framework. We found the two species were not ecologically different, consistent with other work (e.g., morphology and genetics) suggesting that they are synonymous. We synonymized the two to make an ENM that was then ground truthed by sampling 25 novel sites throughout East Texas. Our ENM significantly distinguished suitable from unsuitable habitat for these sites, identifying five new records. We compared model evaluation metrics using the original data versus the ground-truthed data, and we found that some metrics were more reliable than others. The verified ecological niche modeling approach that we present here can be applied in other studies in riverine environments and has particular relevance to conservation science.
Early detection of uterine inertia is very crucial for the life of the foetus as well as that of the dam. Suitable methods for early detection of uterine inertia are lacking in canines compared to humans.Non-invasivetocodynamometry is a promising method, which is widely used in humans for the management of uterine inertia. In the present study non-invasive uterine contraction monitoring using the tocodynamometry was performed in dogs with Complete Primary Uterine Inertia (CPUI) and Partial Primary Uterine Inertia (PPUI), as well as in control animals with the Foetal Cause of Dystocia (FCD).In all the dogs belonging to CPUI and PPUI, the contractions were mild and infrequent with force near to the baseline, i.e., less than 15 mm of Hg. There were no reflex contractions in response to the feathering of the vaginal wall in a majority of dogs belonging to these two groups. In the FCD group, there were strong and frequent contractions lasting for two to three minutes with contraction force above 15mm of Hg, reaching up to 30-40 mm of Hg. Those dogs with less than 15 mm of Hg pressure and feeble or infrequent contractions without delivery for more than 30 min, could be considered as uterine inertia and suitable therapeutic options could be considered judiciously. Tocodynamometry was found to be an effective tool for the early detection of uterine inertia, whichhelped arriving at a quick judicious decision which is pertinent for better foetal and maternal survival.
Researchers are increasingly utilizing online data in completing and broadening the scope of their work. Janet Salmons has authored a guide for novice researchers on appropriate methodologies, data collection, and analysis procedures for pursuing qualitative online research
This study was designed to investigate the existence of a relationship between scores on the Individual Attributes subscales of the SmarterMeasure™ online learning readiness indicator and successful course completion in a first semester, undergraduate, online history, psychology, sociology, or English course. Archival data consisting of 433 records of student scores on the Individual Attributes subscale of the SmarterMeasure™ was used in this non-experimental, explanatory correlational research design. Controlling for the effect of course content and instructor, data were analyzed using partial correlation analysis. Results of the study suggested negligible to extremely weak, positive relationships between the individual subscales and passing grades in the designated courses. Although weak relationships were demonstrated in this study, community college administrators should strategically implement a best practices approach that utilizes an online readiness assessment within all online courses, to be completed within the first two weeks of the semester.
BACKGROUND:The Institute of Medicine (IOM) Future of Nursing report, identified eight recommendations for nursing to improve health care for all Americans.AIM:The Texas Team for Advancing Health Through Nursing embraced the challenge of implementing the recommendations through two diverse projects.METHOD:One group conducted a broad, online survey of leadership, practice, and academia, focusing on the IOM recommendations. The other focused specifically on academic progression through the use of CABNET (Consortium for Advancing Baccalaureate Nursing Education in Texas) articulation agreements.RESULTS:The survey revealed a lack of knowledge and understanding of the IOM recommendations, prompting development of an online IOM toolkit. The articulation agreements provide a clear pathway for students to the RN-to-BSN degree students.CONCLUSION:The toolkit and articulation agreements provide rich resources for implementation of the IOM recommendations.
