
The energy transition, which is increasing price volatility, regulatory pressure, and infrastructure uncertainty, requires industrial firms to treat energy as a strategic variable. While energy informatics research has focused on technological architectures and optimization mechanisms, limited attention has been paid to how energy management systems (EMSs) become strategically embedded within organizations. This study addresses this gap by examining how EMS adoption and optimization are shaped by organizational and ecosystem factors. Drawing on thirteen semi-structured interviews with executives across the energy value chain, the study applies an inductive Gioia-based approach to develop a conceptual framework. The results identify three interdependent dimensions: innovation- and technology-centered organizational development, strategic operational synergy effects, and ecosystem integration and expertise development. The findings show that EMSs create value through organizational embedment rather than technological deployment alone. The study contributes by shifting the focus from technical optimization to organizational coordination and ecosystem responsiveness, thereby extending energy informatics and the resource-based view.
This article analyzes the influence of the integration capability of management information systems (MIS) on job performance, with the intervention of internal process knowledge through MIS and role clarity in objectives and processes. Structural equation modeling was applied to the data from a survey with 257 public servants at an institution responsible for overseeing the judicial function of the State. Results indicate that the integration capability of MIS enhances job performance indirectly, mediated by internal process knowledge through MIS and role clarity in processes. The serial mediation reveals that the integration capability of MIS fosters internal process knowledge through MIS, which influences role clarity in processes, ultimately impacting job performance. Role clarity in objectives did not present statistical significance in the serial mediation, suggesting a greater focus on processes over objectives. The findings provide insights, consistent with the resource-based view (RBV), by demonstrating in serial mediation that interpersonal factors mutually reinforce each other to foster job performance. Understanding these complementarities enables the promotion of improvements in public services offered to citizens.
Cybersecurity behavior remains a major concern as human error continues to undermine technical defenses. This study examines how prior cybersecurity training and incident experience influence awareness, attitudes toward cybersecurity education, and protective behavior. Survey data from 1,297 users across five countries were analyzed using structural equation modeling within the Knowledge-Attitude-Behavior framework. Results show that formal training significantly improves awareness, attitudes, and protective behaviors, while perceived incident experience does not highlight limits of experiential learning alone.
This study applies frustration - aggression theory to examine how perceived interactivity and interface aesthetics in retail mobile apps trigger negative engagement and digital disengagement. Survey data from 456 Indian app users reveal that poor interactivity and aesthetics intensify negative engagement, leading to switching and negative word of mouth. Trust mitigates the impact of interactivity issues but not aesthetic flaws. Findings advance understanding of negative digital engagement and provide actionable guidance for enhancing user retention.
Organizations seek to effectively utilize employees' emotions as a resource to enhance their operations. Using Emotion AI appropriately is critical because, if proven otherwise, companies could be held legally liable. We analyze the U.S. legal system addressing Emotion AI use in the workplace. A legal analysis is essential to ensure its use respects employees and avoids potential legal liability. We conclude that the fragmented protections provided fail to clearly and comprehensively safeguard employee emotional privacy.
This study explores how Agile practices influence job satisfaction and project outcomes in IT development. Using a mixed-methods approach, we analyzed 1000 practitioner forum comments and surveyed 204 Agile professionals, testing relationships with SEM. Job involvement, effective daily stand-ups, and career satisfaction enhanced job satisfaction, while micromanagement reduced it. Goal clarity improved project success only. Career satisfaction was the strongest overall predictor, and job satisfaction further boosted project success, offering guidance for improving Agile implementation.
This study examines how SMEs adopt AI using a qualitative design informed by Socio-Technical Systems Theory. The findings indicate that AI adoption is shaped by the interaction of technical constraints, organizational routines, and external pressures such as client expectations and policy uncertainty. Leadership engagement, data infrastructure, and workforce dynamics play a central role in influencing implementation progress. The study provides practical guidance for supporting more context-sensitive and adaptive approaches to AI-enabled transformation in SMEs.
Digital Transformation (DT) reshapes the IT function and its ecosystem. This transformation affects multiple domains of the IT function, including IT outsourcing (ITO) and relationships with outsourcing partners. While several studies explored shifts in ITO relationships, there is a lack of systematic understanding of how DT changes the nature of organizations' ITO relationships. Previously published ITO taxonomies still reflect the dimensions and characteristics of traditional ITO practices. We propose that the DT alters the dimensions and characteristics of ITO. We thus revisit and advance existing taxonomies by employing a systematic literature review of recent ITO studies. Based on this review, we update existing taxonomies' dimensions and characteristics to reflect the DT-induced change in ITO relationships. The updated taxonomy reveals a shift from transactional relationships to ecosystems of partnerships in ITO. This shift provides directions for future research of ITO relationships and for managing today's IT service networks.
Digital transformation puts new demands to the companies' information technology (IT) functions as traditional systems delivery approaches are no longer appropriate. The firms are thus also transforming their IT functions to new Operating Models (OMs; ITOMs). Despite the wide adoption of different ITOMs for various transformation initiatives and strategy execution, they have not been thoroughly studied in the information system literature. For example, there is no consensus on the ITOM definition, and little is known why and how the ITOMs are designed, how they execute IT/digital strategy, and what are the ITOM core components. In this paper, we systematically review both academic and practitioner literature to understand the discourses on ITOMs. Our findings show 5 ITOM themes and 13 components that foster the IT function transformation. The ITOM definition and the themes help researchers and practitioners to understand ITOM patterns and develop their own contextualized ITOM. We also propose that the ITOM design and implementation process, ITOM renewal challenges, or the management role in ITOM renewal need more research.
Prior researchers have extensively explored the factors influencing online impulse buying phenomenon. However, there is a dearth of studies that comprehensively categorize its determinants into impulse buying tendency, social stimuli, platform stimuli, and marketing stimuli. We integrate the findings of 145 prior empirical studies and perform the meta-analysis. We also undertake meta-analytic structural equation modeling to examine the mediating effect of utilitarian and hedonic values. Further, moderator analysis is done using country-level and method-level variables.
The rapid pace of digital technologies triggers a range of process improvements through more innovative initiatives. However, there is a dire need to investigate the fit or alignment between those technologies and business process needs. This study aims to find which determinants have a significant role in achieving a process-technology fit. For this purpose, we follow a quantitative approach to identify beneficial combinations of PTF determinants based on an international survey following fsQCA and PLS-SEM methods. The findings reveal that determinants better help align process needs with technology. The PTF framework helps professionals improve business processes by understanding organizational needs.
This study examines how AI consultants manage the often-cited tradeoff between explainability and predictive performance in machine learning models. While simpler models are easier to explain, they frequently underperform compared to complex, opaque ones. Through interviews with experts at a global IT consulting firm working across diverse AI projects, we explore how they evaluate explainability, perceive the explainability-performance paradox, and address the challenges of using black-box models. The findings uncover previously undocumented practices, including situations where explainability can be counterproductive. These insights offer fresh contributions to academic discourse and provide actionable implications for AI practitioners navigating this critical tradeoff.
Current data-driven transformation projects reveal a gap in understanding the business capabilities (BCs) needed to create value from data. This study introduces a business capability map (BCM) that organizes 34 BCs required for data-value creation. BCs comprise the specification of processes, roles, resources, and information an organization needs to perform its core tasks. The BCM, derived from a structured literature review and expert interviews, was demonstrated by applying it to two data-value projects from a leading German component and system manufacturer. This study contributes to the literature on BCs and facilitates practitioners in developing their BCs for data-value projects.
This study aims to develop a conceptual model to identify these antecedents within the VR domain. It collected data from VR users and applied structural equation modeling for analysis. Physical affordance did not significantly impact either utilitarian or hedonic benefits. Cognitive affordance positively influenced utilitarian benefits, but not hedonic benefits. Functional affordance was found to significantly enhance both utilitarian and hedonic benefits, while sensory affordance positively impacted only hedonic benefits. Both utilitarian and hedonic benefits significantly shaped users' attitudes and satisfaction, which in turn directly influenced loyalty. Satisfaction emerged as a key mediator between attitude and loyalty.
This paper investigates the moderating effects of gender, user experience and frequency of use on customer trust in mobile banking. A quantitative study was developed using a questionnaire and partial least squares SEM. The findings indicate that gender, experience, and frequency of use significantly moderate the relationships between trust in mobile banking and its antecedents. This study provides valuable insights for banks aiming to bolster customer trust in mobile banking tailored to different user segments.
