Investigation of ultrastructure of reticular nuclei in the large nucleus of the raphe medullae oblongatae has revealed a close position of some neurons to the vascular endothelium. Intravenous administration of exo- or endogenic pyrogens produces dilatation of the perivascular space and appearance of lipid phagocytes in it. Simultaneously in neurons, glio- and endotheliocytes lysosomes, lipofuscin and vacuoles are revealed. The changes detected are transitory and not specific for the agents applied.
In the lymphoid tissue of the iliac lymph node at an aseptic inflammation in the uterus the greatest changes have been revealed in 48 h from the moment, when the foreign body has been introduced. They are manifested at the tissue level (increasing content of macrophages, lymphoblasts, large lymphocytes, plasmoblasts, immature plasmocytes, mast cells, neutrophils), as well as at the organic level (increasing amount of secondary lymph noduli, increasing area of the paracortical zone, decreasing area of the cortical plateau, of the medullary intermediate sinus, medullary cords). Use of carbomineral sorbents ensures correction of the inflammation; this is demonstrated as reduction of reactive changes in the regional lymph node.
In the experiments performed on 61 dogs dynamics of changes of morphometrical parameters of mitochondria of brush-border and cuboid cells have been studied at conservation of the kidneys for 120 h in solutions of intracellular type. Stages of structural reorganization of the mitochondria have been determined depending on duration of conservation and the solution composition. A morphometrical index of viability (Im) has been worked out, correlated with survivability of the transplant and the recipient. In every specific case it allows to estimate quantitatively whether the conserved kidney is suitable for transplantation. At Im less than 50% from the control level, the kidney is not viable, at 50% less than or equal to Im less than or equal to 60%--it is conditionally suitable for transplantation, at Im greater than 60%--it is viable. The index elaborated is practically used for a comparative estimation of the protective action of the four organ-preserving solutions of the intracellular type. The morphometrical index of viability of the conserved kidneys can be used in experimental transplantology for approbation of new solutions before their application in clinical practice.
The data of 160 arteriograms of the hand digits of the persons died a sudden death are presented. In the first and second fingers the internal diameter of the radial edge arteries is significantly less than the ulnar one, and in the fourth and fifth fingers an opposite relation is observed. In the third finger the difference in the diameters is minimal and not reliable. The data obtained can be used for performing replantations and revascularization of the fingers.
: The lectin-peroxidase technique has been used. The peanut lectin is able to label selectively Kashchenko--Hofbauer cells, villi of the chorion; the soya lectin--decidual cells in the maternal part of the placenta. Prolonged labour development is connected with disappearance of Kashchenko--Hofbauer cells, with a reduced binding of the Laburnum anagyroides lectin in combination with an intensified peanut lectin and concanavalin A binding with glycopolymeres of the villi of the chorion.
By means of macro- and microscopical methods structure of 412 lumbar intervertebral discs (ID), obtained from 84 corpses of persons died at the age 16-90 years have been studied, as well as 30 macerated lumbar vertebra. During these periods the lumbar ID are formed by hyalin laminae and a connective tissue wall, surrounding the cavity. According to the tissue type, in the ID wall three main layers are differentiated. The external layer is determined as a fibrous ring, the middle one--as fibrous-cartilagenous and the internal one--as a chondromucoid ring. The three layers gradually and consequently turn one into another. According to manifestation degree of these layers, development of the internal layer and size of the cavity three main variants of the ID structure are nominated: intervertebral synarthrosis, intervertebral hemiarthrosis and intervertebral "diathrosis" (real articulations have not been revealed between the vertebral bodies). The occurrence rate of the ID structural variants revealed in the lumbar part of the spinal cord is demonstrated. Absence of chordal mucous in the cavity is specific for the ID during the age periods investigated. The role of the "nucleus" is performed by the internal layer of the ID wall, which possesses a system of processes and a forming peculiar pulpous complex, which ensures the ID adaptation to various changes in position of the vertebral locomotor segment. The pulpous complex is surrounded with a united fibrillar carcass of hyalin laminae and fibrous-cartilagenous ring; together with the carcass it forms an elastic layer between the vertebral bodies.
A quantitative histo-fluorescent investigation of the adrenal medulla and cardiac sympathetic nerves in young rats of various age has demonstrated a high degree in development of the adrenal medulla and a low density in arrangement of fluorescent nervous terminals in the ventricular myocardium in 3-week-old rats. During this period the animals show a low sensitivity to the catecholamine stress. At the age of 1.5 months the development of the sympatho-adrenomedullary system reaches the level specific for a mature animal; sensitivity to the norepinephrine stress increases noticeably, manifesting as a sharp activation of catecholamines secretion by the adrenal medulla and a high lethality.
The character of interrelations of nervous structures and the lymphatic capillary walls has been studied in cats. Under the light microscope twisted nervous fiber terminals of the intestinal neuron dendrites have been revealed around the lymphatic capillaries. Electron microscopical investigation has not revealed any specialized contacts of the nervous terminals and the lymphatic capillary walls. The receptors and terminals of axons do not situate nearer than 10 nm from the latter. According to the structure of synaptic vesicles among the axonal terminals next to the lymphatic capillary walls cholinergic, adrenergic and purinergic ones are described. The influence of the nervous system to the function of the small intestine lymphatic capillaries is mediated via the precapillary space. The neuromediators from the axonal terminals get into it owing to absence of neurolemmocytic membranes around them.
Microanatomy of nephrons during ontogenesis has been studied in domestic hens. In the bird kidneys, as well as in mammalian kidneys, three populations of nephrons can be detected: juxtamedullary, or deep nephrons, superficial and situating between them intracortical nephrons. In formation of the bird renal medulla only loops of the juxtamedullary nephrons participate. During ontogenesis in the kidneys of birds, like in mammalians, juxtamedullary nephrons are the first to be formed; they can be obtained from kidneys of 14-day-old chicken embryos, however, a complete formation of the nephron structure is terminated after hatching. During development the length of the juxtamedullary nephrons increases nearly by one order, while the length of the superficial and intracortical nephrons increases no more than twice. The diameter of the glomeruli in the juxtamedullary nephrons during development increases nearly twice, in the superficial and intracortical nephrons only a slight increase is noted. A relative length of the proximal canaliculus of the intracortical and superficial nephrons gradually increases during ontogenesis and practically does not change in the juxtamedullary nephrons, in them the nephron loop becomes longer. The developmental pattern in various parts of the superficial, intracortical and juxtamedullary nephrons in general features is similar in mammalians and birds.
At investigation of the intact and damaged myocardium of the rat fetuses (age 17-21 days) several ways of elimination of the perished cells have been revealed: a) exfoliation of the endocardial perished cells into the ventricular cavity; b) phagocytosis by phagocytes of the fetus; c) bordering of the perished cells by endotheliocytes with a subsequent joining of the endothelium to the blood stream. When the fetal myocardium is damaged, elimination of the perished cells is not ensured, nevertheless, during physiological death of the myocardial cells this method is probably effective. The restrictive function of the endothelium plays an essential role in morphogenesis of the heart and is ensured by certain changes in composition of the intercellular substance.
The nervus ischiadicus in white noninbred rats has been damaged by various means and then light- and electron-microscopically the sources of origin of macrophages, participating in removal of decay products in the distal part of the nerve have been studied. There is a close correlation between the process of Wallerian degeneration and aseptic inflammation. In the area of decay of the myelinated nervous fibers 4 types of cells have been identified and characterized. Three of them are precursors of macrophages, participating in removal of the myelin decay products: mononuclear cells of hematogenic origin, perineural cells, endoneural fibroblasts. The dynamics of these cells transformation into macrophages and into "foam cells" has been followed. The fourth type--Schwann cells; they do not directly participate in removal of the myelin decay products. They do not die, but, separating from the segments of the disintegrated myelin, dedifferentiate, proliferate and form cords, into which regenerating axons then grow in. To understand the role of various macrophages in the destructive and reparative processes, which develop in the nerves, is very important not only for searching definitive approaches in treatment of posttraumatic demyelinated processes, but for comprehending the mechanisms of certain autoimmune demyelinating diseases.
Cellular and fibrillar organization of the hypothalamic (HLR) and mesencephalic (MLR) locomotor regions of the brain stem has been studied in cats by means of staining the nervous tissue after Nissl and Sokolyansky. Morphometric investigations of neurons in these regions has been performed in frontal and sagittal slices. Within the limits of the HLR ad MLR there are about 45,000 of neurons, which are organized as various nuclei, the MLR cells arranging in them more compactly in comparison to diffusely ++ scattering HLR neurons. Within the limits of the locomotor regions, together with the cells and powerful compact fasciculi of fibers in the tract passing, that is especially specific for MLR, there are also numerous diffusely ++ scattered fibers. A possible role of the neurons and the fibers passing in starting locomotion at activation of the locomotor areas of the brain stem is discussed.
Anatomical investigations of the muscular layer of the cardia in corpses of adults (30-70 years of age) have shown the presence in the cardia of a 25-35 mm long sphincter disposed at an angle to the horizontal plane. Its formation proceeds with the participation of both the esophageal musculature (circular layer) and gastric musculature (gastro-esophageal fibers of the oblique muscular layer). As a whole, myo-architectonics of the cardia is dependent on the character of interrelation of the muscular layers of the esophagus and stomach which is responsible for the opening and closure of the gastro-esophageal junction.
With the aim to study interrelations of the interventricular septum (IVS) and systematization of their definitions, 151 preparations of hearts of persons died from causes having no connections with cardio-vascular diseases have been studied. The IVS consists of inflow and outflow septa. The inflow septum includes the sinusal (posterior) and trabecular septa, the outflow one--the anterior and conoid septa. The distal part of the anterior and conoid septa form the infundibular septum. From the side of the right ventricle the conoid septum and bulboventricular fold form a supraventricular crest--muscular torus, separating its inflow and outflow parts. From the side of the left ventricle the supraventricular crest is seen as a muscular bar, forming the basal medial wall.
A new functional classification of muscles, determining movements of the mandible is presented. This classification reflects anatomo-topographic and histogenetic peculiarities of the muscles in question. Their functional differentiation in phylogenesis is motivated, coming from specific tasks they perform. Two groups of muscles of direct and mediated action on the mandible are distinguished. The groups are divided into functional subgroups. Mathematical correlations between various subgroups of the muscles at normal functioning of the mandible are presented. This makes possible to perform calculations of the acting muscle forces at planning reconstructive operative interventions in the maxillofacial area.
In the experiment performed on 70 noninbred white male rats by means of histological and morphometric techniques construction and cell composition of the thymus, spleen and inguinal lymph nodes have been studied under the influence of systematic physical (swimming) loads. They have been applied under conditions of a pharmacological correction (administration of leacadin) and without it. In the animals not given leacadin, the physical loads result in decrease of the immune function in all the organs investigated. This is evident from decreasing size of the thymus, outgrowth of adipose tissue in it, drop in amount of lymphoid nodules++ in the spleen, decline of contents of lymphocytes in all the organs, and in the cords of the inguinal lymph nodes--decline of plasma cells. Application of leacadin prevents appearance of unfavourable changes.
The caecum has been studied at the light optic and electron microscopical levels. Amount of immune-competent cells and lymphoid nodules in the distal part of the mice caecum and in the human appendix vermiformis are essentially similar. It is possible to consider the distal (blindly closed) part of the caecum in the mice of the BALB/C line as a morphofunctional equivalent to the human appendix vermiformis and use it as an experimental model in studying diseases of the appendix.
