
This study was designed to examine the chemical composition of essential oil and the in vitro antimicrobial activities of essential oil and methanol extract of Teucrium montanum. The inhibitory effects of essential oil and methanol extracts of T. montanum were tested against 13 bacterial and three fungal species by using disc-diffusion method. GC/MS analyses revealed that essential oil contains mainly δ-cadinene (17.19%), β-selinene (8.16%) α-calacorene (4.97%), 1,6-dimethyl-4-(1-methylethyl)-naphthalene (4.91%), caryophyllene (4.35%), copaene (4.23%), torreyol (3.91%), 4-terpineol (3.90%), cadina-1,4-diene (3.39%), β-sesquiphellandrene (3.34%), τ-cadinol (3.12%) and γ-curcumene (3.18%). The essential oil has antibacterial as well as antifungal effect.
A maximum filling rate (FRmax), the time of reaching it (T-FRmax), the fraction of filling of the first and second diastolic thirds (FF1/3 and FF2/3), an increment of the volume in the first and second diastolic thirds (delta V1 and delta V2) were investigated on the basis of radionuclide ventriculography findings, 99mTc being used. CHD patients (n = 133) were characterized by a decrease in FF1/3, FRmax, an increase in T-FRmax changes in the ratio of delta V1 and delta V. A normal filling process was characterized by predominance of filling in the first diastolic third (the fast filling phase - delta V1 greater than greater than delta V2). Left ventricular diastolic dysfunction was characterized either by a homogeneous distribution of filling in the phase of fast or slow filling with practically equal increasing of volumes in the first and second diastolic thirds (delta V1 = delta V2) or by shifted filling during diastasis (delta V1 less than delta V2).
The paper is concerned with comparative assessment of the efficacy of digital subtraction angiography and routine angiography in assessing tumor spreading in pancreatobiliary cancer. A combined method of digital subtraction angiography and cholangiography was developed and performed in 41 patients with pancreatobiliary cancer permitting maximum information on the topical location and spreading of a tumor process. The clinical importance of the obtained results permitted recommending simultaneous digital subtraction angiography and cholangiography in patients with hepatobiliary cancer.
Total and regional (by 7 zones) contractility of left ventricular functions in 25 patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCMP) were characterized by a different combination of normal and elevated values of total and regional ejection fractions, rate indices of systolic expulsion. Normal or slightly changed values of the end-diastolic volume were combined with normal or elevated values of the stroke volume. Comparative analysis of the values characterizing cardiodynamics, led to working out criteria of differential diagnosis in HCMP patients with heart pain and in CHD patients with myocardial hypertrophy (predominance of the signs of left ventricular hyperfunction in the former and contractility hypofunction and asynergy in the latter). Changes in the diastolic filling of the left ventricle indicated its disturbed diastolic function in both groups of patients.
The theoretical basis of this work is the development of autosensitization in exposure to ionizing radiation and well-known desensitizing action of sulphuric agents. To reduce clinical manifestations of a reaction to combined radiotherapy 34 women with diagnosis of cervical cancer (stages I and II) were given 0.5-1 g of purified sulphur mixed with 0.25 g of glucose in the morning every 2-3 hours before irradiation, per os; 24 patients received placebo (a mixture of egg powder with glucose), in 21 patients no protective means were used. All 79 patients were given unified adjuvant therapy (polyvitamins, leukogens, folic acid) and diet No 15. A significant decrease in the reaction to therapeutic irradiation was noted in the study group. No side-effects were observed.
The paper is devoted to the description of methods of topometric preparation of 73 prostatic cancer patients for gamma-and proton-beam irradiation using an x-ray simulator and a CT tomograph. Basing on the measurement of the prostate in 3 directions in patients with different stages of disease (T1-2-24, T3-29 and T4-20), a conclusion was made that a prostate size was not enough to determine a stage of disease though a tendency to an increase in prostate size corresponded to the growing T index. However, stages T1-2 and T4 could be determined for sure within a certain range of prostate size values.
A concept of a radiation technological system with a moving radiation source was proposed. A formal description of technological operations and a technological process was given. An algorithm of the technological process was considered using as an example the organization of work with closed radioactive agents in the radiosurgery department at the Moscow Research Roentgenoradiological Institute.
A method program were developed for computation of dosimetric characteristics of radiation fields in gamma-neutron irradiation of cancer patients. The program provided calculation of the distribution of isoeffective and absorbed doses and the time-dose-fractionation factor. Isodose charts could be obtained in the digital code or graphically.
The paper is concerned with analysis of the results of clinico-electrocardiographic investigation of 107 rescuers, engaged in the elimination of the effects of the Chernobyl accident. A high percent (27.2%) of the detectability of borderline arterial hypertension was noted among the rescuers (aged to 39) that was determined by a strong psychoemotional tension resulting from work and radiation phobia.
Altogether 129 patients were investigated 3 months after the onset of myocardial infarction (MI). Left ventricular diastolic function was assessed using a set of parameters of radionuclide ventriculography, including fractions of filling of the first and second thirds of the diastole, increments of volumes in the phases of fast and slow filling, a maximum rate of filling and the time of achieving it. Marked disorders of isovolumetric relaxation (indices of filling of the first third of the diastole) as well as changes of volumetric compliance (a ratio of increments of volumes of filling of the first and second thirds of the diastole) were revealed in the patients. A degree of disorder of left ventricular diastolic function and MI localization showed no correlation, however more noticeable changes were observed in the group of patients with the anterio-apical localization of myocardial lesion as compared to patients with lesions of posterior-lateral localization.
An automated data bank of individual dosimetric control using Electronika MS 0507 microcomputer has been developed and is being tested now. The bank provides for data acquisition and processing, registration of the professional status of personnel, calculations, automated archives, and printing of documents. Radiation control data, accumulated at the data bank, were used to determine approaches to control a radiation situation by correcting parameters of a technological process.
The paper is concerned with the materials of a study of long-term effects of irradiation at small doses of a limited population, taking by way of example lethal developmental defects in descendants. In 1957 a radioactive trace was formed as a result of an explosion of a tank with highly active radiochemical by-products. The population in this area was exposed to irradiation. Mortality from lethal developmental defects in the descendants was analyzed. The data obtained have shown that the effect on the gonads of external irradiation at doses of 0.1-0.5 Sv (33,500 persons) revealed no statistically significant variations in the mortality of the descendants from developmental defects as compared to the controls.
The authors considered the interrelationship of clinical requirements and analytical indicators of quality for a group of pharmaceuticals: radionuclide purity (by the criteria of dose load and the quality of visualization); radiochemical purity (interrelationship with a necessary level of accumulation in investigated organs); chemical admixtures (by the criteria of safety and influence on the diagnostic quality; clinical criteria of quality were under discussion); a coefficient of differential accumulation in the system: organ under study-adjacent tissues; specificity; indices of pharmacokinetics, etc. Correct and all-round evaluation of RP quality on the basis of the above criteria determines, to a great extent, a choice of a labeled compound to be used in a specific radionuclide diagnostic method.
