The observation of an adamantinoma's case propped up an odontogenic cyst to check the complicated histogenic problem connected to this eventuality. After considering several theories they suppose a probable derivation from the odontogenic epithelium that has undoubted potentiality.
Ninety crania of Italian and Austrian males, 25-32 years old, coming from the ossurary of Custoza have been examined, (in all 2205 teeth) to determinate the presence and the frequency of dehiscences and fenestrations. All the crania presenting signs of serious stomatologic pathology have been rejected. Dehiscences are more frequent than fenestrations (7.30% vs 6.98%); dehiscences are more frequent in the mandible than in the maxilla (11.55% vs 1.86%), while fenestrations are more frequent in the upper alveolar arch than in the lower one (13.23% vs 2.10%); the upper right first molar is resulted to be the tooth showing the greatest number of defects (8.13% dehiscences and 49.69% fenestrations).
The authors evaluated, at scanning electron microscope (S.E.M.), the morphological aspects of composite resin surfaces applied on dentin subjected, "in vitro", to chemical or chemo-mechanical treatments. S.E.M. photographs of dentinal surfaces of composite, applied on dentin treated with acid agents or Caridex, showed extensive penetration of resin tags into dentinal tubules and their deep adaptation to rough and winding dentinal surfaces. The obtained results have been evaluated in the light of recent advances in biocompatibility and long-term stability of composite fillings, in particular, to setting up new materials and methods in cavities preparation and treatment.
The presence of salivary tissue into the mandible represents often the submaxillary gland dislocation into the maxillary bones. Together with a literature revision, we have analysed the histogenetic hypothesis of this eterotopia and its prognostic implication. At last it has been described a clinical case treated in our Institute.
The Authors report on a case of interesting tooth transplantation using a supernumerary in the site of a lower premolar root affected by periapical granuloma. Irrespective of local unfavourable conditions, the good result of surgical operation is demonstrated by up to now vitality and stability of transplanted tooth.
The Authors examine the various radiological techniques indispensable to pre- and postsurgical evaluation in endosseous dental implantology. Of each technique the choice criteria and diagnostic potentialities are suggested.
The hypnosis present various applications in the therapy of different oral pathologies. The hypnosis is helpful whether how assistance to the local anesthesia in anxious patients, or in the patients with cardiovascular disease, or in the patients with allergic symptom to anaesthetic drugs or in other various conditions. The present work shows the factors that are important for a adequate hypnotic methodology combined with local anesthesia in oral pathology; for this we have execute a clinical work with forty patients treating with various therapeutic treatment.
The authors inspect some of the most usual methods used in the preparation of histological sections of odontological interest. Then they describe a recent method of preparation of histological sections invented by the Prof. K. Donath. It makes use of modern instruments and allows the preservation, in the specimen, of tissues of different nature and consistence, and of eventual materials of restoration and of implant, present in the teeth or in the bone.
The Authors, having widely examined literature about genesis and methods of treatment of the tetracycline-induced discoloration of the teeth, had clinically studied a new way of bleaching discolored teeth called B.V. Bleaching Vital, they also described the execution's technique of this method.
Using an electrode selective for the ion fluorine, it has been determined the amount of fluorine in samples of human milk. In a sample of 35 nursing mothers, only 10 have shown the required parameters. The amount of fluorine in the water all 35 mothers imbibed in their daily diet has been measured. The results showed a small amount of fluorine in human milk and a possible connection between the amount of fluorine in the mothers' daily diet and the amount of fluorine in human milk. From the results of the research it has been determined the necessity to give supplements of fluoride to nursing babies.
The authors through a literatures, review, shows the istopathological aspects of the innervation of the inflammatory periapical lesions, emphasizing the most important characteristic.
Salivary glands development has been studied by optical microscopy in 8 fetuses aged from 8 to 20 weeks of fetal life. From the observation of the sections obtained we can assume that submandibular gland is the first gland to be detectable, later the parotid gland and then the sublingual gland. In tight connection with the parotid gland Chievitz organ has been demonstrated. It is not known whether this organ may or may not contribute to parotid gland.
The Authors find a disagreement between symptomatology referred by patients and clinical pictures of pathology observed by sanitary operators. For instance a large percentage of patients considers bleending less important than the presence of calcolus. It is necessary a better information and secondary prevention increased.
In the oro-maxillo-facial pathology it may be useful to perform hematochimical and saliva tests which can clarify the kind of the pathology and which can be used in the post-surgical follow-up because of incidental modifications. Saliva compliance and viscosity and blood hemorrheology variations always result lower than in normal population. The Authors are going to value which kind of oro-maxillo-facial pathologies shows a significant reduction of saliva elastoviscosity and blood hemorrheology. Yet, in a further study, they will try to explain that reduction and the connection with the specific pathology and the medical and/or surgical treatment.
In 10 young subjects without pain or tenderness over the masseter and anterior temporal muscles left and right, skin surface temperature was measured over the area of these muscles, these subjects then underwent to an electromyographic examination for masseters and temporals. The findings obtained by these two different diagnostic tools were compared. From these comparison it comes out that in a large percentage of our sample they showed the same diagnostic result.
The AA. examine the possibilities of the present imaging to the diagnostic definition of the extensive and destructive forms of the Central Giant cells Tumor of the maxilla. The CT and MR studies are compared with conventional x-Ray. The analysis performed evinces, besides the well-known semeiological CT superiority for the evidence of the osseous erosions, the ability to follow by MR imaging the evolution of the tumor, in the its relationships with the fascial, muscular, adipose and fibromucous soft tissues, when it exceeds the osseous barrier of the maxillofacial skeleton, enclosed therein the palatal plane.
The hemophilic syndrome (hemophilia A, B, C) represent about the 90-95% of all the congenital coagulopathy; in order to avoid immediate or belated hemorrhagic complications it is necessary to give these patients all the care they need. When the hemophiliacs have to be submitted to oral surgery operations we can use various therapies according to the seriousness and to the type of the disease. We have also taken into consideration the ways to grant a local hemostatic control.
The AA. have evaluated dental age in growing subjects with Cooley's anemia. 34 patients aged from 4 to 11.8 years were clinically examined as far as the number of teeth erupted. Dental arches x-rays were taken for each patients to evaluate dental age according to dental development. From the data collected in our investigation it comes out that there were no difference between dental age and chronological age.
