Children commonly present with acute febrile illness and infectious diseases. Differentiating the aetiology and prompt initiation of treatment are a key part of everyday paediatric practice. Recognition of the less common disease patterns is also important, as are prevention and responsible prescribing patterns required for the modern paediatrician to support a healthy future for the young.
