Abstract Questions regarding the method by which Cleopatra at the age of 39 took her own life on that fateful 12th day of August in 30 BC during her twenty-second regnal year were raised almost immediately after the event. This essay begins with a consideration of an image of the dying Cleopatra, commissioned by Octavian/Augustus, which serves as an introduction to the survey of the literary testimonia, grouped together by those passages which agree on the agent. In so doing, the essay suggests the identity of that agent by the vocabulary used in its description. The observations drawn are then synthesized in order to arrive at a plausible answer.

Abstract On 21 November 1921, W. E. Crum wrote to H. I. Bell: ‘My dear Bell — Is this ostracon legible enough for you to improve my attempt at a reading? I’d be much obliged.’ There follows a transcription, with Bell’s corrections, and Crum continues: ‘It came presumably from D. el Bahri & has been lent me, with others — just too late for my book.’ A century later, the ostracon remains unpublished, and its current location is unknown; it does not seem likely that the original will be rediscovered soon. As it is something apparently unique, I thought it would be worth presenting an edition based on Crum’s transcript as revised by Bell.

Abstract An immense body of evidence, archaeological as well as textual, confirms that bread was the main staple in pharaonic and Graeco-Roman Egypt, but has also obscured the fact that the Egyptians, like many other peoples, additionally ate cereals in the form of porridge. The purpose of this article is to remedy this through a close examination of the Egyptian term Ꜣwš/ỉwš(š) .
Abstract Malgré une mention dans une note d’onomastique de Michelle Thirion en 1979 et la notice qui lui a été consacrée dans le catalogue de l’exposition Cleopatra and the Queens of Egypt , qui s’est tenue à Tokyo en 2015, le relief Bruxelles, Musées royaux d’Art et d’Histoire (MRAH) inv. E.04354, ne semble pas avoir retenu toute l’attention qu’il mérite. Il livre pourtant la plus riche attestation connue de la reine Dinebethetepetiaout et il la montre à une place comme avec des attributs exceptionnels.
