Abstract — The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) provides the accreditation of the tertiary education programs in the fields of applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and technology. Although ABET accreditation is voluntary, graduates of the ABET-accredited programs are considered as equivalent in knowledge, behaviors, and attitude with global standards. In this study, the factors that affect the success of ABET process are evaluated, and their importance weights are determined. Causal links among the factors, positive as well as negative relations between pair of criteria, and lack of crisp data lead to employ fuzzy cognitive map as an appropriate methodology to assess success factors of ABET process. The application is illustrated through a case study, which is conducted in a university located in Turkey.
Ionic conduction in silicate glasses is mainly influenced by the nature, concentration, and mobility of the network-modifying (NWM) cations. The electrical conduction in SLS is dominated by the ionic migration of sodium moving from the anode to the cathode. An activation energy for this conduction process was calculated to be 0.82eV and in good agreement with values previously reported. The conduction process associated to the leakage current and relaxation peak in TSDC for HPFS is attributed to conduction between nonbridging oxygen hole centers (NBOHC). It is suggested that ≡Si-OH = ≡Si-O- + H0 under thermo-electric poling, promoting hole or proton injection from the anode and responsible for the 1.5eV relaxation peak. No previous TSDC data have been found to corroborate this mechanism. The higher activation energy and lower current intensity for the coated HPFS might be attributed to a lower concentration of NBOHC after heat treatment (Si-OH + OH-Si = SiO-Si + H2O). This could explain the TSDC signal around room temperature for the coated HPFS. Another possible explanation could be a redox reaction at the anode region dominating the current response.
A medium-scale (30 cm diameter) methanol pool fire was simulated using Sandia National Laboratories' Sierra/Fuego low-Mach number multi-physics turbulent reacting flow code. Large Eddy Simulation (LES) with subgrid turbulent kinetic energy closure was used as the turbulence model. Combustion was modeled using a strained laminar flamelet library approach. Radiative heat transfer was modeled using the gray-gas approximation. This paper details analysis done to support a validation study for the fire model. In this anal-ysis, integral quantities were primarily examined. The radiant fraction was computed and used as a model calibration parameter. Integrated buoyancy flux was calculated and compared to an engineering correlation. Entrainment rate was computed with and without a mixture fraction threshold filter and compared to engi-neering correlations. Turbulent kinetic energy was computed and the effect of mesh size on the subgrid and total turbulent kinetic energy was examined. Flame height was calculated using an intermittency definition with two input parameters. A sensitivity study was then conducted to determine the sensitivity of the esti-mated flame height to the input parameters. This analysis aided in achieving the primary validation study objectives by providing model calibration and expanding the scope of the validation effort. In addition, the range of physics examined was increased, enhancing the understanding of the model's overall performance and of the relationship between phenomena.& COPY; 2022 Published by Elsevier Inc. on behalf of The Combustion Institute.
According to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canada is "the first postnational state.
The paper briefly covers the most important stages in Italian immigration to the Toronto area, beginning with the second half of the 19 th century, and ending with the early 21 st century. It includes the main neighbourhoods and their spread to the northwest, as the three waves of migration brought new population groups into Canada up to 1914Canada up to , in the 1920s and between 1950Canada up to and 1970.Certain issues that the Italians faced are brought to light, like poor housing and employment in manual jobs; on the other hand, their resilience is reflected in strong family ties that kept them together, which ultimately enabled the creation of many construction companies. In addition, the women played an important part in emancipating themselves when they joined the workforce in the 1960s and 1970s, which was a rarity among ethnic minorities at the time. The text concludes with some examples of notable statistics in education, home ownership and famous Italian Canadians who indebted both Toronto and the rest of the country with their work.
This paper analyses the use of British English and American English spelling doublets in contemporary Canadian English. The corpus analysis was conducted on the Corpus of Global Web-Based English (GloWbe) which contains approximately 1.9 billion words of text from twenty different English-speaking countries. This corpus was primarily chosen because it is the only balanced corpus available that allows direct comparison of BrE, AmE and CanE.The paper focuses on the three distinct categories of spelling doublets -those ending in (1) -our/-or, (2) -re/-er, and (3) -ise/-ize.Having selected ten most frequent words in each category, we proceeded to analyse their distributions in both spelling versions in all three varieties of English. The paper will show that Canadian speakers are under an enduring influence of their next-door neighbours despite the fact that Canadian normative grammars and dictionaries traditionally favour British orthographic norms.
Distancing herself from fixed national canons and identities, belatedly famous novelist Daša Drndić chose to occupy a political and artistic position of permanent exile. Therefore, her literary work will be examined in the context of the post-Yugoslav literary canon, which is still in the making. The paper will present Drndić's novels as part of a transnational, or supranational, corpus of literature and art that share thematic, stylistic, formal and ideological concerns, focusing on her Canadian experience. Her disappointing emigration period spent in Canada in the late 1990's (1995 to 1997) resulted in the semiautobiographical novel Maria Częstohowska Still Shedding Tears or Dying in Toronto (1997).Drndić's novel brings together diverse memories, notes and documents that testify to intellectual crisis, feelings of isolation and defeat as well as to a terrible humiliation lurking behind the apparent security and comfort offered to a displaced person.Daša Drndić narrates about her Canadian migrant experience as a series of losses: country, memory, language, art and identity.Displacement is too painful a condition to be simply shrugged off as a temporary crisis, but the author refuses to rescue herself by leaving the turbulent history of her lost homeland behind: she prefers to return to it with a renewed potential of both self-examination and suffering.
The paper focuses on the analysis of the postmodern poem Sketches of a Lemon written by one of the co-founders of boundary 2 -the poet Robert Kroetsch. The poem is a signature poem of the postmodern school.By applying the postmodern technique of negation, the author of the paper gives the analysis of the poem trying to explain how the poet achieves the affirmation of the lemon on the white pages of the book.In the spirit of his postmodern technique, Kroetsch describes the presence of a lemon in terms of its absence. The language of the poem goes beyond signification and contains its own possibilities for perception.Kroetsch's use of imagery moves the readers to question how to make sense of language itself. The author of the paper concludes that the sketches are brought into new meaningful arrangements by absorbing the reader in an imaginative and intellectual engagement. In creating the meaning of the poem, the author of the paper refers to the postmodern techniques and ideas of Jacques Derrida and Jean-François Lyotard.
