
Chronic arsenic poisoning has become a global health hazard due to intake of contaminated subsoil water. A large population in West Bengal, India and in Bangladesh is suffering from chronic arsenicosis due to drinking of contaminated subsoil water. It affects mostly the poorest part of the community.
Vitamin D deficiency in Crohn's disease (CD) patients has been extensively stressed by experimental studies, systematic reviews and meta-analyzes. Recently the hypothesis that low levels of vitamin D are responsible for a higher incidence of this pathology has been advanced.
Introduction: Globally 144 million children under the age of five were stunted, 47 million were wasted, and 38 million were overweight and 1.9 billion adults are overweight or obese, while 462 million are underweight.People living in humanitarian crisis areas such as refugee and IDP camps are particularly vulnerable groups accounting the highest portion of this numbers.However, there is limited information on the nutritional status and determinants factors of malnutrition among refugee and IDP camps in developing countries like Ethiopia, particularly in Debark refugee camp. Method and materials:Cross-sectional study was conducted with a systematic random sampling technique from March 09 to May 13, 2022.Sociodemographic and other variables were collected by trained data collectors using structured questionnaires in face-to-face interviews.Anthropometric measures (such as mid-upper arm circumference), height, and weight were measured.

The objective of this study was to examine the constraints of workload in agricultural food production on children's nutritional status, feeding, and hygiene practices among rural women in Ibadan, Nigeria.
Anemia is a medical disorder and in pregnant women, it is diagnosed when the hemoglobin level of red blood cells less than 11 grams/deciliter, which reduces oxygen-carrying capacity of red blood cells to tissues. It is a major public health problem for pregnant mothers. Anemia is largely preventable and easily treatable, if detected in time, however, it remains one of the causes of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality especially in developing countries. Understanding the prevalence of anemia and its associated factors would help in its preventive and therapeutic measures.
The number of Vietnamese older adults is increasing rapidly. Malnutrition and oral health problem are problems of concern. The purpose of this study is to compare nutritional status in Vietnamese older adult inpatients with healthy oral and those with changes/unhealthy oral.
Diabetes mellitus (Type 2) is a chronic disease characterized by high fasting blood glucose that can affect people without detection at onset until after some time in life. Early diagnoses and management usually lead to a better quality of life of an individual. The predisposing factors associated with the disease among same population can vary as a result of genetic composition and susceptibility of every single individual.
The aim of the current study was to shed light on vitamin D3 content in some fishery products that may help the consumers to meet their requirement of vitamin D. The selected products included dried shrimp and fish (sardines and mackerel), canned tuna, sardines, salmon, anchovies and smoked salmon and herring. Vitamin D3, moisture, fat content, antioxidant activity and pH values were estimated for these products, and the percent daily value of vitamin D was calculated. The results revealed that dried sardine showed the highest vitamin D content (48.86 μg/100g), followed by canned anchovy (15.22 μg/100g), then Smoked herring (12.12 μg/100 g). The lowest content of vitamin D was found in white tuna meat canned in water (6.81 μg/100g) and pink salmon in water (3.58 μg/100g). The percent daily value of vitamin D in the selected fishery products extended between 325.73% for dried sardine and 33.87% for salmon canned in water per serving. In conclusion, the daily requirement of vitamin D could be covered by consuming 30.70g of dried sardine, 98.55g of canned anchovy or 123.76g of herrings. The present results may assist the consumers to get their daily value of vitamin D3 from some natural sources. However, studies are needed to renew the use of dried fish or shrimp in future dishes as a high source of vitamin D.
The promising area of lipidomics has received a major interest as exploring panels of lipid biomarkers and their metabolic pathways might contribute to the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease allowing novel therapeutic targets.Dysfunctions in lipid metabolism have been associated with metabolic disorders as well as with aging and neurodegenerative diseases.Neurolipidomics is beginning to provide new insights into the pathophysiology of AD through identification of plasma and cerebral lipid mediators and metabolites (lipidome).Altered lipid profile and dysregulated metabolism of DHA, plasmalogen, phosphoinositol (PI), phosphoethanolamine (PE) has been investigated mainly through their incorporation into neuronal membranes and may all contribute to AD progression.This review summarizes the current knowledge on altered lipidome in AD and the impact of dietary lipids (cholesterol, phospholipids, SF, LA, AA, EPA, DHA) on the brain, CSF and plasma lipidome in MCI and AD subjects compared to age-matched controls.
Obesity is characterized by an excessive body-fat and a chronic low-grade inflammatory state. Its population diagnosis is measured by body mass index (BMI), which classifies obesity as a BMI of ≥ 30 kg/m2. Raised BMI is a known risk factor for multiple chronic disorders, particularly diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. In recent decades, there has been an emergent scientific interest in more natural therapeutic approaches, including phytotherapy.

Measuring overall dietary nutritional value necessary for wellness is complex for healthy individuals, and even more so for patients suffering from complex diseases such as Crohn's Disease. Clinical dieticians are challenged to provide beneficial dietary advice balanced against using incremental changes in patients' selected diets to increase long-term adherence to dietary improvements. The My Nutrition Index (MNI) is a validated, personalized nutritional scale based on personal characteristics and dietary needs. In this study, we evaluated and adapted the MNI for use in an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patient population and validated it against the recommended diets suggested by a certified dietician.
Aging has been defined as the biological changes occurring during a lifetime that result in a decreased resistance to cellular stress, more vulnerability to disease, and increased likelihood of death. Some mechanisms of aging that will be discussed in this paper include instability of genomes, neuroendocrine secreted factors, production of reactive oxygen species, altered calcium levels, and inflammation. Aging rates are species-specific, which suggests a strong genetic influence. However, one major variable shown to affect the rate of aging in many different species is caloric intake. Intermittent fasting involves increasing the interval between meals, therefore, lowering the daily caloric intake by approximately 40%. Although cells in the body require energy from food in order to survive and function, an excessive amount of calories can compromise cell function over time and lead to detrimental health effects. Because of this, dietary restriction including intermittent fasting, can increase resistance to disease and also lifespan. Intermittent fasting has also been shown to improve memory, learning, and neurogenesis in the brain. Many recent studies have shown that dietary restriction has profound effects on the brain, and protects neurons against degeneration of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Huntington’s diseases. Dietary restriction stimulates the production of new neurons from stem cells and enhances synaptic plasticity, which allows the brain to resist the changes of aging. Sever Acute Malnutrition (SAM) is a major health problem in developing countries especially among underprivileged and destitute life survivors population. It is more common among under-five children and responsible for accounting onethird deaths in worldwide. Information on SAM treatment outcome in therapeutic center at Benishangule Gumuze region is scarce. We assessed SAM treatment cure rate and associated factors among 6-59-month children at Pawe General Hospitals from February1, April 2, 2020. Methods: We conducted institution based retrospective cohort study from January 2015 to December 2019 and collected data from February 1 April 02, 2020. Totally 454 SAM 6-59-month under-five children assessed with their known final treatment outcomes. The collected data were coded and entered in to Epi-Data version 3.1; then exported to STATA/se-14/R. Survival analysis used to check proportional hazard assumption for each variable and no variable schoenfeld test < 0. 05. Variable with AHR at 95% CI at P-value less than 0.05 considered as significant predictors for treatment outcome. Result: We reviewed 502 SAM admitted 6-59-month children individual file records, 454 individual cards were included for final analysis. Sixty-five percent of 65.4% (95% CI: 50.169.2) admitted SAM children were treated and declared as cured, whereas 16.52% of case defaulted & 11.5% of children were died after admission. The median age and median cure time of SAM children found 2.2 years and 13 days (± 7) respectively. Children diagnosed marasmus (AHR = 1.56: 95% CI 1.08--2.2), No nasal-gastric intubation (NGT) during admission (AHR = 1.31: 95% CI (1.04 --1.67) and taking F-100 milk (AHR = 5.42 95% CI (2.92-9.85) were independently associated with treatment cure rate. Conclusions: The overall treatment cure rate of this study was remaining low 65.4% as compared to sphere standard sets of reference humanitarian recommendation (i.e., > 7577.9%), with previous studies done in Ethiopia. Based on this study finding starting formula F-100 milk, no NGT during SAM admission independently associated with treatment cure rate.
OVERVIEW:The purpose of this review is to introduce options for dietary therapies and supplements for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). IBS is a common condition with heterogeneity in pathogenesis and clinical presentation. Current treatment options are targeted at symptom relief with medications. Patients naturally pursue dietary modifications when dealing with symptoms. Dietary therapy for IBS has been poorly studied in the past; however, newer evidence suggests the use of certain diets, such as the low FODMAP (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols) diet, as an intervention in patients with IBS for symptom improvement. Exclusion strategies are frequently tried, such as gluten restriction or lactose avoidance, but lack quality evidence behind their use. Additionally, supplements, such as fiber, probiotics, and peppermint oil, have also been used for IBS with more recent data suggesting the use of these supplements with specific caveats.
A Mediterranean diet pattern is cardioprotective and positively correlated with lower chronic disease risk. Certain vulnerable populations would benefit greatly from a Mediterranean diet to reduce cardiovascular disease risk, and clinical diet intervention research typically uses diet recall questionnaires. This type of dietary tracking leads to assumptions and not an actual ability to accurately track Mediterranean diet adherence in the short-term.
This study examined the effect of adding a high dose of resistant starch (RS) in plain muffins on human glycemic response in sedentary and abdominally obese individuals. A total of 8 participants were randomly assigned to two sequences of treatments (AB, BA) using a 2 × 2 randomized cross-over design. The treatment effect was tested with a muffin that contained 75g of digestible carbohydrates and 30g of RS as treatment condition (TRT, B), while the control effect was tested using a 75-g oral glucose solution as a control condition (CON, A).
Objects: The Coronavirus pandemic has had a clear impact on the Jordanian society in several aspects, especially the health aspect. Therefore, this study is conducted to discover the effects of staying at home (quarantine) during the Coronavirus pandemic on the Jordanian society in terms of obesity, depression, and physical activities. Methods: 1252 members from both genders of the Jordanian society completed the questionnaire, three questions were developed, and a questionnaire was created to answer these questions by youths and the elderlies between the ages of (15-65) years from both genders. The procedures included an evaluation of obesity, depression and physical activity during the period of quarantine. Results: The highest mean according to the obesity, depression and physical activity among genders and age groups was (3.59, 1.69, 3.57) respectively and standard deviation for them (0.572, 0.267, 0.609) respectively. Conclusion: It is found that there are no significant differences between both genders and ages group but there are a numerical differences in most questions.
