
For the first time, lichens and lichenicolous fungi of the mountainous landscapes of the Khynekhdere tract (Southern Daghestan) have been studied. Our investigation covered habitats across an altitudinal range of 1770–2700 m a. s. l. A total of 199 species (including 24 lichenicolous fungi) were identified, among them Arthonia circinata and Lichenopeltella maculans are new to Asia and Russia, Lichenothelia dimelaenae is reported for the first time for Russia, Phacographa glaucomaria is a new record for the Caucasus, and four species (Catapyrenium daedaleum, Immersaria athroocarpa, Lecidea confluens, Staurothele fissa) are new to the North Caucasus. For the lichen flora of Daghestan, 41 species have been recorded for the first time, including 10 new genera (Buelliella, Epithamnolia, Immersaria, Lichenopeltella, Ophioparma, Phacographa, Psorula, Schaereria, Spilonema, Toensbergia) and four new families (Mniaeciaceae, Schaereriaceae, Trichothyriaceae, Coccocarpiaceae).
The identification of moss collection from the Pyramiden town and its vicinity (Billefjorden area, Svalbard) has been completed. Schistidium sordidum and Blindiadelphus subimmersus were first found on the archipelago. Some specimens of Encalypta procera, Aongstroemia longipes, and Catoscopium nigritum with deviating morphological features such as lack of hairs or subula of perichaetial leaves, asymmetric capsule, and unusually small size of shoots and leaves, as well as Hymenostylium recurvirostrum with various leaf cell papillosity were studied with an integrative approach.
The paper presents the first record for Russia of one species of agaricoid fungus and two species of lichens, first records for the Republic of Belarus of one species of myxomycetes and two species of lichenicolous fungi, first records for the Republic of Azerbaijan of two species of lichens new for the Caucasus, and the first records for regions of Russia: one a siphonous yellow-green alga for the Arkhangelsk Region, one diatom for the Udmurtian Republic, four silica-scaled chrysophyte species for the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), two species ascomycetes for the Omsk Region, 18 species of basidiomycetes for the republics of Altai and Tuva, Omsk, Tyumen, Yaroslavl regions, including three species new to Siberia; 28 species of lichens for the Arkhangelsk and Murmansk regions, republics of Bashkortostan, Buryatia, Dagestan, and Tuva, Altai and Trans-Baikal territories, including by one species new to Siberia and Asian Russia; four species of mosses for the Leningrad and Lipetsk regions, and Chukotka Autonomous Area. The data on their localities, habitats, distribution are provided. The specimens are kept in the herbaria ALTB, BAK, DAG, GSU, H, KPABG, LE, MSK, NSK, OMSK, PZV, TOB, UFU, VU, YSU, in the algological collection in the Laboratory of Cell Ultrastructure of the Limnological Institute SB RAS (LIN), the Laboratory for Algology IBIW RAS, and the private collection of S. M. Goskova. Sequences of the ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 nrDNA region of some reported specimens of fungi have been deposited in the GenBank (NCBI).
The preliminary checklist of the powdery mildew fungi of the Sverdlovsk Region includes 114 species on 240 species of host plants. Records of 22 species of micromycetes are new for the region. The majority of species (81) are represented by more than one specimen and/or literature record. Among the powdery mildew fungi known from the region, 68 species are restricted to anthropogenic habitats. The presence of alien species Erysiphe alphitoides, E. corylacearum, and E. palczewskii in the region is confirmed using ITS and LSU sequence data.
This study documents 25 lichen species and one lichenicolous fungus new to Primorye Territory. Among these, Absconditella lignicola, Chaenotheca sphaerocephala, Inoderma byssaceum and Thelocarpon intermediellum are reported for the first time for the Russian Far East. For each species, the nearest known localities in the south of Russian Far East are provided. For rare lichens, differences from closely related species are discussed. As a result of the revision of some lichen groups in the VGEO herbarium specimens of Adelolecia kolaensis, Lecanactis abietina, Lecania cyrtella, Megalospora submarginiflexa, M. tuberculosa f. sorediosa, Micarea peliocarpa were redefined and excluded from the Primorye Territory checklist.
An annotated list of mosses of the fell-fields of the Murmansk Region is presented for the first time based on literature data, KPABG and INEP herbaria, and the field collections during 2021–2023 years. Data on collecting places, habitats and frequency of occurrence are provided for every species except localities based on literature data. The list includes 75 species and one variety of mosses, 19 species and one variety are given for the first time for the fell-fields of the Murmansk Region, three of them include in Red Data Book of the Murmansk Region (2025). Most mosses of fell-fields are boreal (41 %) with large part of arctomontane species (35 %). The basis of the list of the fell-fields comprises moss species undemanding to growth conditions, widespread in the Murmansk Region rocky species, forming cushions, and small mosses of fine-earth and poorly developed soils. Analysis of species composition of different collecting points revealed that there is no any distribution pattern of mosses of fell-fields.
Data on the distribution of the lichen species Umbilicaria kisovana, identified in Baikal Siberia during a revision of Umbilicaria collections gathered in the region between 1963 and 1998, are presented. A total of 39 specimens were identified as U. kisovana from the Eastern Sayan Mountains (Prisayanye, Tunka Goltsy), Pribaikalie (Olkhinskoye Plateau, Primorsky, Baikalsky, and Khamar-Daban ranges), and the Stanovoye Nagorie Upland (Yuzhno-Muya, Kalarsky, Kodar, Udokan, and Yankan ranges). The species is reported for the first time from the Irkutsk Region and the Republic of Buryatia, with its westernmost localities recorded here. The speciesʼ ecological features, including its inhabiting siliceous rocks, as well as the nature of its geographical range in relation to its origin, are discussed. It is suggested that the current apparent disjunction between the East Asian and Siberian parts of its range is likely an artifact of insufficient lichenological exploration of Eastern Siberia. The range of U. kisovana is compared with the ranges of the woody plants Pinus pumila, Chosenia arbutifolia, Populus suaveolens, and Betula ermanii, with which it shares similarities, as all extend into East Asia. It is proposed to characterize the range of Umbilicaria kisovana as Baikal-East Asian or Northeast Asian.
Based on a series of morphological features, such as reduced or missing external tubes of fultoportulae and location of rimoportula, 10 nomenclatural combinations are published to transfer Thalassiosira species into the genus Shionodiscus.
The paper provides the first data on aphyllophoroid fungi of the complex natural monument “Sablinsky” situated in the Tosno District of the Leningrad Region. The list includes 128 species annotated by data on their habitats, substrates, and frequency. Melzericium udicola, Porostereum spadiceum, and Thanatephorus amygdalisporus are published for the first time for the Leningrad Region. Thanatephorus amygdalisporus is recorded for the first time for European part of Russia. In total, five protected in the Leningrad Region species (Aurantiporus fissilis, Dentipellis fragilis, Postia undosa, Rhodotus palmatus, Rigidoporus crocatus) were found in the reserve. The specimens are kept in the Mycological herbarium of the Komarov Botanical Institute RAS (LE).
A new species of Cribraria, described herein as С. arachnoidea, was discovered in the southern part of European Russia (the village of Kanevskaya in the Krasnodar Territory). The two specimens upon which the new species is based were obtained in moist chamber cultures, and the sporocarps developed on the dead wood of undetermined deciduous trees. The sporocarps and spores were examined by light and scanning electron microscopy. The main diagnostic morphological characters of Cribraria arachnoidea are the deep violet color of the small sporocarps, relatively short stalk (no more than twice the diameter of the sporotheca), small calyculus, irregular and flat nodes of the peridial net, and the angular spores. Micrographs of all relevant features are presented.
The middle Sikhote-Alin is a huge land located in Pacific Asia between 45°N and 48°N. It covers ca. 60000 km2. The liverwort checklist of this territory was completed based on our own field research and literature sources data; it contains 159 species, one subspecies, and one variety. Previously available information on liverworts for this area, with a few exceptions, originates from the Sikhote-Alin Biosphere Reserve only. The studies conducted in 2017, 2019, and 2021 in four ‘local’ floras have revealed 73 taxa new for the area; nine among them are new for the Sikhote-Alin Mts. (Anastrophyllum assimile, Calypogeia sphagnicola, Cephaloziella arctogena, Cladopodiella fluitans, Fuscocephaloziopsis loitlesbergeri, Herbertus arcticus, Lophozia murmanica, Mylia anomala, Scapania parvifolia var. grandiretis). Abovementioned taxa and Anthelia juratzkana, Apotreubia nana, Cephaloziella rubella var. bifida, Frullania subarctica, Fuscocephaloziopsis pleniceps, Scapania gymnostomophila, in total 15 taxa, are new to the Primorye Territory. The liverwort flora of the Sikhote-Alin Biosphere Reserve was supplemented by 31 species. Thirty-nine liverwort species are listed for the first time for Bikin National Park as the first report of liverworts for the protected territory. The completely new information was collected for two more local floras considered in the present account. For several newly recorded species in the Sikhote-Alin (arctic-montane Cephaloziella arctogena, Frullania subarctica, Herbertus arcticus, arctic-boreal Mylia anomala, boreal Cladopodiella fluitans, Fuscocephaloziopsis loitlesbergeri), the middle Sikhote-Alin is the southern limit in their distribution in mainland Pacific Asia. On the contrary, no liverwort species have the northern limit in their distribution in the middle Sikhote-Alin.
Actinella brasiliensis, a rare diatom for Russia, was first found in Yakutia. As previous detailed studies of this species using SEM are limited, we provide an amended description of its morphology, as well as a comparison of our data with the results of previous studies. Lectotype of the species based on original figure in Grunow’s protologue designated in this article. Based on morphometric and morphological similarity, we propose to consider A. brasiliensis var. curta and A. brasiliensis var. cuneata as synonyms of the type variety. The distribution of the species in Russia is expanded.
A list of 28 species of lichenicolous fungi is given for the Colesbukta Bay area (Svalbard Archipelago). Endococcus complanatae is newly reported for the Arctic; Cercidospora cecidiiformans, Echinothecium reticulatum, Endococcus stigma, Sphaerellothecium soechtingii, and Stigmidium fuscatae are new for Svalbard. Another seven species are recorded for the first time for Nordenskiöld Land. Аn unusual lichen-like organism growing on another lichen and morphologically resembling species of Sphaerellothecium is noted and illustrated.
In the far northeast of Asia (Wrangel Island and the northernmost part of Kamchatka), two specimens of the previously unknown chemotype of Blastenia ammiospila were found. This chemotype is characterized by the presence of anthraquinones (7-chloroemodin and emodin) in the lichen thallus, whereas atranorin is absent there. Additionally, a lichenicolous specimen of B. ammiospila with small, 0.4–0.8 mm diam., orange-red to pale rusty-red apothecia was found in Yakutia growing on saxicolous thalli of Parmelia sp. and Umbilicaria deusta on granite outcrops. All findings are supported by molecular data (nrITS).
Twenty-six species of agarics and boletes are reported for the first time for the Sverdlovsk Region. Among these, three species (Echinoderma echinaceum, Pluteus variabilicolor, Phlegmacium boreicyanites) are new to the Urals. Newly generated nrITS sequences of five species were deposited in the GenBank. The previously published information on agarics and boletes from the Sverdlovsk Region was corrected. As result of a revision of the mycological collections, Pseudoclitopilus rhodoleucus was excluded as misidentification from the species list of fungi of the Sverdlovsk Region and the Urals.
Study of silica-scaled chrysophytes in Vietnam has revealed a rare species, endemic to Australia, in three Vietnamese water bodies outside of its previously known habitats. The investigations were conducted in the freshwaters of Vietnam using the electron-microscopic method and high-throughput sequencing (V9-ITS1 rDNA metabarcoding). Descriptions, original micrographs, and habitat features of this species are given.
As a result of studying samples from ephemeral water bodies of the Scientific Experimental Station Otradnoe, located in northwestern European Russia, four species of silica-scaled chrysophyte algae new to the Leningrad Region were recorded: Mallomonas insignis, Synura asmundiae, S. bjoerkii (the second record to Russia) and S. macracantha (the third record to Russia). This is the first study of chrysophyte algae in this locality that was done using the electron microscopy method. The article provides descriptions, data on distribution in Russia, and original micrographs for each species.

Data on their localities, habitats, distribution are provided. The specimens are kept in the herbaria AA, ALTB, GSU, HERZ, IBIW, KPABG, LE, LECB, MIRE, MSK, MW, NSK, ORIS, PKM, PZV, SYKO, TOB, UUH, VU, in the algological collection in the Laboratory of Cell Ultrastructure of the Limnological Institute SB RAS (LIN). The article is dedicated to Victor Dmitrievich Pisarzhevsky, the author of the first published list of lichens of Russia, compiled by him based on publications issued before 1897. The article acquaints a reader with this little-known work, which nevertheless played a certain role in the development of lichenology in our country at its initial stage. The fate of its author— undoubtedly a gifted researcher, was nevertheless sad.
