
A new replacement name Aphonomorphus (Furcaphonus) fascipes Gorochov et Braun, nom. n. is proposed for Aphonomorphus (Furcaphonus) fasciatus Gorochov, 2010 (Orthoptera: Gryllidae), nom. praeocc., non Aphonomorphus fasciatus (Scudder, 1869). Thus, a new synonymy is also established: Aphonomorphus (Furcaphonus) fascipes Gorochov et Braun, nom. n. = Aphonomorphus (Furcaphonus) fasciatus Gorochov, 2010, syn. n.
Data on the structure of the sound apparatus, temporal and frequency parameters of acoustic calling signals of 9 species from 4 genera of the tribe Pholidopterini (Tettigoniidae), occurring in Russia and adjacent territories, are presented. The sound signal and some details of the body structure of Pholidoptera augustae Tarbinsky, 1940, as well as the signal of Parapholidoptera georgiae Massa, Buzzetti et Fontana, 2009, found in the North Caucasus, are described for the first time. The taxonomic status of the former subspecies Pholidoptera pustulipes subsp. jailensis Miram, 1927 has been changed to Pholidoptera pustulipes forma jailensis stat. n. Possible reasons for intraspecific variability of the temporal structure of acoustic signals are discussed.
Information on the distribution of 30 sawfly species of the families Argidae, Cimbicidae, and Tenthredinidae in Siberia is updated. Alphastromboceros konowi (Jakovlev, 1891), Aneugmenus temporalis (Thomson, 1871), Tenthredo sabariensis (Mocsáry, 1880), and Tenthredopsis scutellaris (Fabricius, 1804) are recorded for the first time for the entire Siberian region. Eriocampa dorpatica Konow, 1887, Rhadinoceraea bensoni Beneš, 1961, Macrophya sanguinolenta (Gmelin, 1790), Stethomostus funereus (Klug, 1816), and Tenthredo brevicornis (Konow, 1886) are new records for West Siberia. Arge caucasica Tournier, 1889 is recorded for the first time from East Siberia. Ten species are reported for the first time for Kemerovo Province, two species for the Republic of Khakassia, and one for the Altai Republic. The occurrence in Kemerovo Province is confirmed for additional 13 species that were not previously listed for this territory in the Annotated Catalogue of the Hymenoptera of Russia.
—A new genus name, Hallanops Kirejtschuk, nom. n., is proposed to replace Acathartus Grouvelle, 1912 (with the type species Silvanus insignis Grouvelle, 1899) in the family Silvanidae, a junior homonym of Acathartus Fåhraeus in Harold, 1872 in Cerambycidae (a junior synonym of the genus name Ossibia Pascoe, 1867). A new species name, Agabus palaeogenicus Kirejtshuk et Ponomarenko, nom. n., is proposed as valid one for Agabus latissimus Ponomarenko et Soriano in Kirejtshuk et al., 2019, because of its homonymy with Agabus latissimus Clark, 1863 which is currently included in the genus Platynectes Régimbart, 1879 with the valid name P. monostigma (Hope, 1842, as Colymbetes).
A catalog of type specimens (holotypes, paratypes, lectotypes, and paralectotypes) of the species of the family Nemestrinidae (Diptera) described by J.A. Portschinsky, A.B. Lichtwardt, and S.J. Paramonow, which are kept in the collection of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg, Russia, is presented. Aphanisticus gaponi sp. n. (Coleoptera, Buprestidae: Agrilinae) is described from the New Guinea Island in the Indonesian West Papua Province. The new species belongs to the A. endeloides Carter, 1924 species-group distributed from Southeast Asia to northern Australia, thereby at both sides of the Wallace Line. A key to the species of this group is provided.
Xylotrechus (Turanoclytus) ilamensis petrovi subsp. n. is described from Daghestan. The only known female of this subspecies was formerly reported as X. i. zuvandiensis Lazarev, 2016, known from Azerbaijan (Talysh Mts.) and northern Iran (Mazandaran Province).
Mogulones hungaricus (C. Brisout de Barneville) is recorded from Armenia, and M. lucanus (Colonnelli), from Greece for the first time and compared with all the related species of the genus. Mogulones koenigi (A. Schultze) is recorded for the first time from Russia (the Black Sea coast in Krasnodar Territory).
The paper presents an annotated checklist of ants (Hymenoptera, Formicidae) of the Republic of Adygea. Based on the analysis of original material and published data, information on the distribution and some aspects of biology is provided for 50 species from 16 genera and 4 subfamilies, of which 29 species are recorded from the region for the first time. The highest species richness is observed in the genera Formica Linnaeus, 1758, Lasius Fabricius, 1804, and Temnothorax Mayr, 1861. The paper contains original data on the biology, phenology, ecology, and altitudinal distribution of ants inhabiting the region. An analysis of life forms, hydropreference, ecological tolerance, forms of social parasitism, and the zoogeographical structure of the ant fauna of Adygea is provided. Data on the biology, ecology, and distribution of the poorly known species Temnothorax arnoldii Radchenko et Fedoseeva, 2015 are presented for the first time.
Keds of the genus Hippobosca Linnaeus, 1758 (family Hippoboscidae Samouelle, 1819) are parasites of mammals. Their range includes the Palaearctic, Afrotropical, and Oriental kingdoms. Currently, there are no published data on the fauna of this group in the Crimean Peninsula. Examination of the material from the collections of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Zoological Museum of Moscow State University, as well as collections by A.A. Przhiboro in the Crimean National Park, showed that the predominant species in southern Crimea in the late 19th and early 20th centuries was H. equina Linnaeus, 1758, a parasite of horses and cattle. Hippobosca longipennis, whose main hosts are dogs and foxes, was also reported at that time. The observed decline in the abundance of Hippobosca equina in Crimea obviously resulted from the decreasing abundance of horses after they had been largely replaced by motorcars.
The data on robber flies (Diptera, Asilidae) of Yakutia are summarized; the annotated list includes 30 species from 6 subfamilies. Seven species are recorded as new to the fauna of the republic: Dioctria aestivis Esipenko, 1970, D. cothurnata Meigen, 1820, D. flavipennis Meigen, 1820, Holopogon nigripennis (Meigen, 1820), Laphria sibirica Lehr, 1989, Leptogaster cylindrica (De Geer, 1776), and Machimus rusticus (Meigen, 1820). New locations are reported for the remaining species. The features of the ranges and landscape distribution of the recorded robber fly species are discussed.

A review of the group of species of the genus Eulasia Truqui, 1848 (subgenus Eulasia) closely related to Eu. (Eu.) aurantiaca (Reitter, 1890) is presented. Diagnostic characters of the group are provided. Eulasia (Eu.) araxicola sp. n. is described from the Arax River valley in Armenia and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. Re-description of the understudied species Eu. (Eu.) eichleri (Zaitzev, 1923) is given, the lectotype of this species is designated. Data on the distribution of the species of this group, including also Eu. (Eu.) naviauxi (Baraud, 1971) and Eu. (Eu.) persidis Baraud, 1990, and an identification key are provided.
Pseudopoophagus prosvirovi Savitsky, sp. n., Ps. belokobylskii Savitsky, sp. n., Ps. squamosus Savitsky, sp. n., and Ps. affinis Savitsky, sp. n. from northern Vietnam are described. A key to five species of the genus Pseudopoophagus from Vietnam is given. The possible functional significance of some genital characters of males and females of the genus Pseudopoophagus is discussed.
Blood remaining after poultry slaughter, without appropriate processing, is a potentially hazardous biowaste and environmental pollutant. The aim of the present study is to investigate the possibility of converting chicken blood into high-value-added products using fly biotechnology. Initially, blood is used as a nutrient medium for growing Calliphora vicina larvae. The fly larvae then serve as a eukaryotic system for the biosynthesis of pharmacologically active proteins and peptides. The main product of this technology is a complex of antimicrobial peptides (defensins, cecropins, diptericins, and proline-rich peptides). The properties of this complex, such as a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity, efficacy against intractable biofilm infections, high synergy with antibiotics, and lack of toxicity for humans and animals, make it a promising drug candidate. Calculations indicate that processing one ton of chicken blood can produce over 10000 doses of the medicinal product for treating chronic skin and wound infections, providing a thousand-fold increase in the value of final products compared to rendering and blood fermentation.
Simulium dahestanicum (Rubtsov, 1962) is a new species to the fauna of the Republic of Moldova, discovered in the Ichel River, a tributary of the Dniester. The data on the distribution and morphology of this rare species are limited. The paper provides a detailed morphological description of the larvae, pupae, and adults of S. dahestanicum in comparison with closely related species of the subgenus Wilhelmia—S. equinum (Linnaeus, 1758) and S. pseudequinum Séguy, 1921. New valuable diagnostic characters are described, including the postgenal cleft of S. dahestanicum larvae and the ratio of gill tube lengths in the pupae. The study was conducted from 2018 to 2022 in 10 rivers in Moldova, where 245 specimens were collected, including 96 S. dahestanicum, 18 S. equinum, and 131 S. pseudequinum. Updated data on the distribution of these species in Moldova are presented for the first time, along with new records of S. deserticola and S. frigidum. Simulium dahestanicum was found co-occurring with other species in the Ichel River, indicating high blackfly biodiversity in the region.
A new finding of the rare species of the genus Cymindis Latreille, 1805, Cymindis (s. str.) olgae Kabak et Komarov, 2022, is discussed. The species earlier known only from the Lower Volga Region, was collected on the Mount Bazarbai (Akbulakskiy District of Orenburg Province). The specimen was found on a steppe residual hill (similar to the type locality), which emphasizes that C. olgae is associated with petrophyte-steppe biotopes.
The structure of the male terminalia sclerites has been studied in three economically significant species of fruit flies of the genus Ceratitis: C. capitata (Wiedemann, 1824), C. cosyra (Walker, 1849), and C. rosa Karsch, 1887. The structure of the male terminalia is generally similar in these species, with differences found in the shape of some structures of the genitalia: the left laterobasal part and the median outgrowth of the hypandrium, the phallapodeme, the apicodorsal rod of the glans, the ejaculatory apodeme, epandrium, and subepandrial sclerites. Some of these characters (the shapes of the dorsal part of the epandrium and the ejaculatory apodeme, the shape and size of the apicodorsal rod of the glans, in the lateral view) are noticeable on the preparation of the genitalia without separating the sclerites from each other, which is important to simplify the diagnostics in the practice of phytosanitary laboratories. The sclerites traditionally called medial or inner surstyli, or the medial side of surstyli, have been shown to be outgrowths of the subepandrial sclerite with prensisetae and thus not to be homologous to the surstyli.

In a long-term research, the species composition, abundance, habitat distribution, and seasonal dynamics of aphidiid parasitoid wasps (Hymenoptera: Aphidiidae) were investigated in field crop agrobiocenoses of Leningrad Province. The family was represented by at least 13 species, while their density was 0.10–0.48 ind. per 10 net-sweeps depending on the biological features of the crop and 0.15–0.28 ind. per 10 net-sweeps in different years. The core of the parasitoid wasp complex associated with aphids comprised four species: Ephedrus plagiator Nees, Aphidius ervi Haliday, A. uzbekistanicus Luzhetzki, and A. rhopalosiphi De Stefani-Perez, which together accounted for 84.8
