Introduction: Gastrointestinal cancers are among the most common cancers worldwide. Since some viral infections are carcinogenic, they may lead to gastrointestinal tract (GIT) neoplasms. This study aimed at investigating the relationship of GIT with John Cunningham Virus (JCV), Herpes Simplex virus (HSV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), Cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
Introduction: Some patients are more susceptible to multiple primary malignancies (MPMs). However, understanding of the effects of this susceptibility on the benefits and detriments to patient survival are poorly understood.
Introduction: β-catenin plays a major role in colorectal carcinoma (CRC) development. This study aims at investigating the rate of β-catenin expression using immunohistochemistry in CRC among Jordanian patients, comparing different β-catenin compartmentalization in cell membrane, cytoplasm, and nuclei in different grades and stages of CRC, and examining the relationship of β-catenin expression with the clinicopathological features and survival.
Introduction: fractal geometry has been implemented to study natures’ irregular objects with diverse applications in medicine, from characterizations of human structures such as the division of bronchial or arterial trees to the diagnosis of abnormal cells, as it has been evidenced in the study of neoplasms. In this investigation, a characterization of the degree of irregularity of histologic samples of normal and thyroid gland neoplasms was developed in the context of fractal and Euclidean geometry.
Breast cancer (BC) is the leading cause of cancer mortality in Pakistan and other South Asian countries. Recent statistics indicate an increased risk of BC incidence and mortality among women in this region. Many factors have been associated with increased mortality from this disease including late detection due to inadequate knowledge of screening, and financial constraints due to which many women do not undergo screening tests. Other causes that have led to the deterioration of the disease status among females include a lack of public knowledge of BC's symptoms and misconceptions taking root from cultural reasons. This situation has called into question the effectiveness of BC awareness campaigns, as they may not have achieved the desired results that were originally envisioned. In this paper, we highlight the shortcomings of the awareness campaigns in Pakistan: lack of BC knowledge, financial constraints, and inaccessible healthcare facilities; and suggest alternatives for reducing breast cancer incidence and mortality.
Objective: To improve the understanding of the etiology of perforated peptic ulcers (PPUs) and their association with cancer development.
