This chapter initially covers the definition and main elements of artificial neural networks and how they were originally developed from the behavior of biological neurons. Then the theory behind how neural network finds the pattern between input and target variables is explained. In this section, nodes, weights, layers, activation functions, feedforward, backpropagation, and steps required to train a neural network are reviewed. After understanding the basics, a summary of neural network applications in oil and gas industry is illustrated. Two Python applications of data preprocessing, feature ranking and training neural networks for oil and gas–related problems, are presented. In the first example, keras library is used to train a neural network and find a relationship between Shale Gas Well estimated ultimate recoveries and multiple well/reservoir attributes. In the second example, neural network is used from the scikit-learn library to find a correlation between bubble point and some crude oil properties. Finally, deep learning algorithms such as convolutional neural network and recurrent neural network are discussed with fracture surface treating pressure prediction example using long short-term memory.

This study provides an outline of the connection among the various security threats, specifications, implementations, and network safety as well as an overview. In addition, a few of the device communication services are often overviewed, evaluating the protection mechanisms. The Internet of Things (IoT) has been a focal point in the previous few years. On analysis, here are several kinds of problems and difficulties with the tremendous ability of the IoT. For IoT technologies, applications, and networks, cybersecurity is one of the crucial challenges. This study discusses the work advancement of IoT to examine every main part of IoT, and finds how some safety problems and concerns have to be recognized and discusses them momentarily. To secure information privacy, professional conduct, honesty, encryption, intrusion detection, and capability to recognize as well as versatility, interoperability, and usability, reliable and usable IoT protection is needed to be brought into account. In terms of certain realities, new IoT approaches from the scientific, educational and industrial sectors are presented and addressed by analyzing a few of the current study in the IoT field Depending on the results of this report, it is important to develop and implement suitable IoT applications that can ensure integrity, security, and honesty in interconnected conditions.
Robert Gleichauf is responsible for the development of secure network infrastructures across Cisco's product line. Most recently, he led the development of Cisco's Network Admission Control (NAC) initiative. He has led other security initiatives at Cisco, including overseeing the R&D for Cisco's Intrusion Detection System (IDS) product line, and the migration of IDS technology into the Cisco Catalyst 6000 platform. Gleichauf joined Cisco with the WheelGroup acquisition in 1998, where he was the head of product engineering. Prior to WheelGroup, he was a senior engineering manager at startup IQ Software, which developed database report writing tools. He spoke at the Gartner IT Security Summit in London in the autumn, and spoke to Brian McKenna for Infosecurity Today about the trials of decrypting data in crisis situations, security officers of a new type, and the challenge of vendor interoperability.
Finite mixture modeling, together with the EM algorithm, have been widely used in clustering analysis. Under such methods, the unknown group membership is usually treated as missing data. When the “complete data” (log-)likelihood function does not have an explicit solution, the simplicity of the EM algorithm breaks down. Authors, including Rai and Matthews [Rai, S.N., Matthews, D.E., 1993. Improving the em algorithm. Biometrics 49, 587–591], Lange [Lange, K., 1995a. A gradient algorithm locally equivalent to the em algorithm. Journal of the Royal Statistical Society B 57(2) 425–437], and Titterington [Titterington, D.M., 1984. Recursive parameter estimation using incomplete data. Journal of the Royal Statistical Society B. 46, 257–267] developed modified algorithms therefore. As motivated by research in a large neurobiological project, we propose in this paper a new variant of such modifications and show that it is self-consistent. Moreover, simulations are conducted to demonstrate that the new variant converges faster than its predecessors.
