This paper examines the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on life expectancy and infant mortality rate under-5 using time series data over the period of 1980–2017. We have applied unit root as well as co-integration tests to examine integrating properties of the variables and cointegration among the variables. Moreover, we apply the ARDL approach to measure the longrun and short-run impact of FDI on life expectancy and the infant mortality rate under-5. The empirical evidence confirms the presence of co-integration amid the variables. FDI increase population health measured by life expectancy and to reduce the infant mortality rate under-5 in the long-run.
The present experimental study was undertaken to determine the effect of cooperative learning strategy i.e. student teams achievement division (STAD) on the academic stress among ninth grade students in relation to gender. Ninth standard students of the schools situated in Jhajjar city affiliated to Haryana Board comprised the population of the study. 64 students (32 boys and 32 girls) selected through multi-stage random sampling technique constituted the sample of the study. 64 students after equating on the basis of intelligence level & socio-economic status were equally divided among two group i.e. experimental group (E) & control group (C). Group Test of intelligence by Ahuja (2012) was used to assess the intelligence level of students. Socioeconomic status scale by Kalia & Sahu (2012) was used to measure socio economic status of students. Stress inventory for school students by Singh & Rani (2011) was used to measure academic stress of students. Statistical techniques like ANOVA and t-test were used to analyze the obtained data. Cooperative learning was found more effective instructional paradigm for reducing academic stress of high school students as compared to conventional method.
In the current global scenario, it has become quite casual to witness women gearing up amidst all her responsibilities to equally participate with her counter parts. Despite the challenges open to them, they play an active role be it a teacher, a lawyer, a doctor, a corporate head, or a business women. Wherever and whatever kind of work they do, they can't escape a phase called ‘child-bearing’. Though it is a biological blessing of women, it has become a forced phase by the society. As a Right, a person can choose when to marry and marriage should be with free consent of both individuals. But, the reality is different as it is the family of the girl, her relatives, neighborhood and close environment decides about her marriage or forces her to accord for marriage. This does not stop here, and it intervenes with her reproductive right too. If a girl after one year of marriage does not give birth, the so called ‘society’ around her creates a pressure and develops a taboo. Isn't it the right of women to decide on her child-bearing!?
Chit funds are one of the oldest methods of savings and borrowings in India. They served as important financial intermediaries for the people of the country for many decades. However, the Indian economy started opening up itself to new banking and financial institutions since 1990s. This resulted in many new banking and financial products and services, which catered to the needs of changing economy. Chit fund companies on the other hand were functioning more or less in the same manner. Technology has completely changed the way of doing the business in banking and non-banking financial companies. However, chit fund companies have not witnessed same pace of adoption of technology. This article discusses the technological initiations taken by some of the chit fund companies to take the age old financial tool to the new generation. The study also focuses on the chit fund companies that are leveraging on the technology to make a difference to the field of chit funds.
Modern society is very complex in nature. It possesses numerous difficulties leading to conflicts, anxieties, tensions and frustrations among the pupils. Such kinds of problems are also faced by pre-service teachers in the course of their professional training. DNA testing has revolutionized human identification and is used extensively for crime investigation, paternity confirmation and immigration checking. This paper delves on the specific ways in which the use of DNA technology for paternity testing has affected law and society in India. I argue that the sociological phenomenon of increasing acceptance and use of private DNA testing laboratories by men to confirm the biological relationship with their children is leading to increase in paternity disputes in the courts. The legal position on the applicability of using DNA evidence in civil cases in India is highlighted here, noting the fine balance that the courts have to strike between use of scientific evidence to settle disputes versus the need to protect the interests of the wife and child in the pursuit of justice. Greater regulation and control over private DNA laboratories in India is needed to ensure that easy and cheap availability of DNA testing does not harm the privacy and autonomy of individuals.
India is home to 10.2 crore tribal people who are also known as Adivasi and the constitution of India has designated “tribes” as Scheduled Tribes (Art 366). These adivasi people basically inhabit forest and hilly areas. Tribals are considered to be the most backward and deprived section of the Indian society. Socio-economic development of these tribal people has been neglected from British period to the present age of globalization. These aboriginals have a unique life style of their own, are untouched by the modernity. In the era of development and globalization they still face the problems of illiteracy, vicious poverty, ill health, poor livelihood and low income which force them to live in primitive conditions. Purulia is one of the most backward tribal district in the country. Tribals of this district have distinct age old social system, cultural tradition, customs, values, life style and languages. But in terms of economic condition of these people, they can be considered to be the poorest of the poor in the country. Tribals of this district use the forest as a means of their sustenance. The present study aims to focus on the socio-economic status and problems faced by this community to sustain their livelihood.

The government of Ethiopia is endeavoring to bring organizational transformation since 1994, by using different change tools. Balanced scorecard is among the change tools that implemented in public sectors since 2010. But the result was not as satisfactory as intended. This study focuses on the challenging factors that impeded the implementation of balanced scorecard in Benishangul Gumuz Regional State in some selected bureaus. To address the study's objective, explanatory strategy of mixed methods research design has adopted. Survey was conducted on seven (7) public sectors that were taken as primary sources of the study with focus group discussion and document review as secondary source of data for the study. The subjects of the study were management members, balanced scorecard team; change committee in those sampled seven public sector bureaus. Closed and open ended questionnaires were distributed to the sample respondents. To identify the magnitude of various challenging factors of BSC implementation, four independent variables are identified; top management commitment, organizational working culture, employee resistance, communication and cascading process. Under each independent variable multi items were designed and measured the severity of challenging factors. The data which elicited through questionnaires were analyzed quantitatively by using inferential statistics such as regression with ordinary least square model to check the coefficient of each independent variable on dependent variable. Results of the analysis shows that top management commitment is the least contributing factor for the implementation process of BSC in the region. I.e. it is the most challenging factors among the independent variables. Organizational working culture is the detrimental one to BSC implementation next to lack of top management commitment. This finding is also solidified by qualitative data which were collected through focus group discussion and document analysis. The finding of the qualitative analysis shows that communication and cascading next to lack of top management commitment is impeding the implementation of BSC. Generally, this study suggests taking corrective measures by regional administrative council or cabinet body and top management members at their respective bureaus before the new system (BSC) got sluggish.

Small enterprises play a key role in the development of developing countries, which are facing a problem of high unemployment. The main problem in the establishment of small enterprises is the scarcity of finance. To promote the small enterprises, government started a scheme known as Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) in April 2015. The study revealed the performance of banks in the sanction of loans under PMMY scheme at districts level as well as category-wise in Haryana state exclusively. To fulfil the objectives of this descriptive cum analytical study required data has been collected from the StateLevel Banker's Committee, Haryana. Results of the study depict that private banks provide more loans under Shishucategory when compared other two categories of MUDRAloans. This is because the loan amounts under Kishore and Taruncategoryare much higher, and therefore, riskier to private banks. Furthermore, the analysis of district-wise performance of the PMMY symbolizes that under Shishucategory, semi urbanized large districts have the highest number of beneficiaries and amount sanctioned. For the Kishore and Tarun categories, most urbanized and thickly populated districts shares for the largest proportions. But the darker side district-wise performance of the PMMY is that rural and backward districts show extremely no contribution in all the categories of PMMY in Harayana This is really a major issue of concern and need immediate attention.
The erstwhile Himalayan Kingdom of Sikkim was a feudal monarchy having feudal economic system and exploitativepolitico-administrative structures. Socio-economic disparity among the three major communities of Sikkim-Lepcha, Bhutia and Nepalese was evident in the system of landlordism, lease system, system of forced labour and their social status in the agrarian society. Nepalese being the migrant population who settled in the last decades of 19th century were not only considered as outsiders by the aboriginals and minority Lepchas and Bhutias but were also denied rights and freedom by the Chogyal (ruler). Lepchas and Bhutias were either high ranking officials or rich land lords while the Nepalese were marginal workers, sharecroppers, cultivators and tea plantation labourers. This prompted few political organizations to demand for agrarian and economic reforms in Sikkim. As the economic reforms were being gradually initiated by the Chogyal, these anti-Chogyal political parties started making political demands for the establishment of a full-fledged democratic Government in Sikkim. Sikkim State Congress (SSC), the oldest political party of Sikkim provided a democratic platform for these political parties to further pursue this demand with the Chogyal and Government of India. There continued resistance and protests against the functioning of Government under Chogyal's regime made it convenient for the Indian Government to politically intervene. This ultimately resulted in not only the breakdown of feudal economy in Sikkim but also its transition from theocratic monarchy to liberal democracy. This clearly shows the co-relation between the economic reforms and political reforms in Sikkim. This paper seeks to point out the fact that changing political contexts in Sikkim have given rise to different demands of these political parties. Itattempts to analyze the role of political parties in altering the political economy of Sikkim and facilitating its merger with India.
