Measuring financial soundness of a firm has become an imperative and imminent need in the context of emerging hyper competition in almost every sector of the business. Financial soundness of a firm is reflected through various financial parameters which are closely associated with each other. By establishing a close relationship between the variables, a firm can analyze its financial performance in terms of liquidity, profitability, viability and sustainability (M.S.Ramaratnam, R.Jayaraman 2013). In order to measure the performance, ratios, the indicators, are normally used to identify the financial health of the firm. There are more than 40 different ratios available to analyze and predict the financial soundness of a firm. Since single ratio does not convey much of the sense, Altman combined a number of accounting ratios to form an index of profitability, which is regarded as an effective indication of corporate performance in predicting financial soundness of a firm. Hence, this paper has made an attempt to analyze the financial health of select companies of FMCG sector by applying Altman’s Z – Score (VikasTyagi 2014) and found the selected sample from FMCG industry is in the safe zone which indicates that many FMCG manufacturers in India are financially sound.
Non Performing Assets (NPA) is continuing its phenomenal growth in quantum as an uncontrollable virus in the Indian Banking System. The percentage of growth in NPA over the years are sending distressing signals to the stakeholders, especially the Reserve Bank of India, who controls the whole spectrum of banking activity in India. All the Banks in India are continuing their war against NPAs 12 months a year as a ritual, but ultimately result in the ever increasing growth in figures over the years. Government has been trying to address the problem with very positive steps like, establishment of Debt Recovery Tribunals ( DRT) as well as implementation of SARFAESI Act 2002 in letter and spirit , that too of late, with the intervention of Courts for taking possession of the secured assets to be handed over to the Bank .Still the figures are showing a northward trend, in the case of growth of NPA in almost all the Banks. At this juncture it is worthwhile to go beyond the known causes of NPA to some unknown/unnoticed causes in order to get more insight to really understand the problem. This article attempts to understand and highlight some of the issues/facts which can be attributed as some of the main causes for the increasing NPA. It is a fact that NPA cannot be eliminated, but can only be contained. Now NPAs are contained by each Bank as a matter of compulsion, at a heavy cost of provisioning and write off. The authors are trying to find out whether addition of fresh NPAs can be prevented at least to a certain extent by isolating some unknown/hidden facts behind every NPA account, and bring it to the attention of the stake holders for corrective action. This is presented as a concept paper even though the subject of study was done among a group of Bank officials dealing with NPAs for a long time. A structured research was not envisaged in the study as it was not possible to get honest written responses from these officials and so most of the opinions were gathered from informal talk with them by the authors. So the paper is presented as an analysis of facts collected from these officials and so statistical research techniques are not required. Some of the findings/facts are able to throw light for future research/critical study.

Ethical challenges abound in HRM. Each day, in the course of executing and communicating HR decisions, managers have the potential to change, shape, redirect, and fundamentally alter the course of other people's lives. Managers make hiring decisions that reward selected applicants with salaries, benefits, knowledge, and skills, but leave the remaining applicants bereft of these opportunities and advantages. Managers make promotion decisions that reward selected employees with raises, status, and responsibility, leaving other employees wondering about their future and their potential. Managers make firing and lay-off decisions in order to improve corporate performance, all the while harming the targeted individuals and even undermining the commitment and energy of the survivors. Even when managers complete performance appraisals and deliver performance feedback, they may inspire one employee and devastate another. For each HR practice, there are winners and there are losers: those who get the job, or receive a portfolio of benefits, and those who do not. This paper explores and determines the standards which is very important to complete the entire task ethically and make a justified decision with each individual weather employee or candidate.

India is the fourth largest economy in the world but the state of infrastructure in India has been a source of concern for local and foreign investors interested in tapping its potential as a business destination. The factors that are obstructing its growth and development is the lack of world class infrastructure. Unlike other sectors, wherein market forces alone are enough for development, infrastructure sectors need much regulatory clarity and frameworks for both private and public investments. Projects in the sector typically involve many partners with the state playing a crucial role. As such appropriate contractual arrangements, credit enhancement and other forms of financial support from the state, and non-distortionary subsidies became crucial to the growth of infrastructure. With the increasing role of the private sector, the need for appropriate forms of public private partnerships and especially private finance initiatives cannot be overemphasized. Similarly, appropriate regulatory modes and market creating efforts are necessary in many sectors. The source of information has been secondary for this research. In this paper we are focusing on the major challenges and impediments to infrastructure development in the country. The paper concludes that fiscal support will continue to be dominant for infrastructure development but equally important are enabling policies that could lead to streamlining of procedures and protection of interests of both investors and consumers.
