
Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is an economically important vegetable crop all over the world. The piercing sucking insect pests are serious pests threatening potato plantations in many countries. The present investigation contributes to the knowledge in the susceptibility of certain potato cultivars to infestation with these insects in Beheira Governorate, Egypt. Five global potato cultivars currently used in Egypt’s potato production were evaluated through two successive seasons (summer plantations) in field experiments for their susceptibility to sucking insect infestation. The experiment was designed in a completely randomized blockdesignand all data were analyzed using the SAS® program. None of the tested potato cultivars was immune or highly resistant to the tested insect pests. The cultivars Banba and Diamante were found quite resistance to piercing sucking insect pests. The cultivar Herms was found as moderately susceptible while Spunta and Cara were found to be the most susceptible cultivars. The green lacewing, Chrysoperla carnea; seven-spotted lady beetle, Coccinella septempunctata; eleven spotted lady beetle, Coccinella undecimpunctata and the pirate bug, Orius sp are the most important predators which associated with the sucking insects pests on the potato cultivars.
This paper provides information about the Heteroptera (Hemiptera) species collected by fermented bait traps in six fig orchards in Tire (İzmir), Western Turkey in 2016. As a result of this study, 12 species belonging to six families of Heteroptera have been recorded.
This study carried out in wheat growing areas and natural areas that nearby of wheat fields of Diyarbakır (Yenişehir, Central villages, Plant Protection Research Institute experimental area) and Şanlıurfa (Akçakale, Siverek) provinces in 2014-2015. Studies were conducted during April, May and June by sampling once a week, while in November and February months by sampling once a month, by irregular controlling of 60 different locations. According to the results; 24 aphid species of 18 genera and 10 parasitoid species of 6 genera were determined on 20 plant species [Alopecurus myosuroides Huds; Amaranthus retroflexus L.; Avena fatua L.; Avena sterilis L.; Carduus crispus L.; Centaurea solstitialis L.; Cirsium vulgare (Savi) A-Sw.; Daucus carota L. var. carota; Galium aparine L.; Lens culinaris Medicus; Lolium perenne L.; Lupinus albus L.; Onopordum acanthium L.; Orobanche sp.; Papaver rhoeas L. Silybum marianum (L.) Grtn.); Sonchus oleraceus L.; Triticum aestivum L. Emd. Fri & Pao.; Triticum durum Desf.; Vicia sativa L.]. Determining of Aphids (Hemiptera: Aphididae) and their parasitoid species including specialization of parasitoids to both aphids and host plants, demonstrated once more the importance of richness of natural enemies in Southeast Anatolian region in terms of biological control.
In the present paper, a supplementary checklist of oribatid mites recorded between the years 2008-2016 is provided (the closing date for publications included in this list was 15 May 2016). The oribatid mite species described from Turkey as new to science have been highlighted.
Leafhoppers are one of the most important agricultural insect pests.Traditional morphological criterion for leafhoppers identification depending on the presence of males only.So, Inter Simple Sequence Repeats (ISSRs) were used to find diagnostic markers for fingerprinting fifteen leafhoppers species collected from different medicinal and aromatic plants in Egypt.Seven ISSRs primers were successfully produced 72 bands those could be used to differentiate the fifteen different leafhopper species.Also different amplified bands with 65 diagnostic morphological characters were used to determine the phylogenetic relationship among the different species; that divided into two main clusters.ISSR-PCR technique could be successfully used with morphological characters to fingerprint and identify these leafhopper species using any life stage
Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is known as “king of fruits”. Several insects are known to cause significant damage to mango and affect its productivity. One of them is Bactrocera dorsalis which is an important pest of mango in India. Keeping in view the medical, economical and dietary importance of mango and damage done to it by different insect pests, work was done to study the biology of this pest which causes huge damage during (May to September). Adults are strong fliers, eggs are laid in the soft skin of ripening fruits. On hatching, the maggots bore into the fruit further and feed on soft pulp. The infested fruits bear depressions with dark green punctures and when cut open wriggling maggots were seen inside. Later, the affected fruits get malformed and in conjugation with bacterial activity, fruits rot and ultimately fall down. Maggots emerge from these fruits and pupate in the soil.
