
Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the bond strength of two calcium silicate–based sealers to dentin following different canal-drying protocols. Methods: Sixty bovine incisors were assigned to six groups according to three drying methods (absorbent paper, suction cannula, or isopropyl alcohol) and two sealer types (ready-to-use and powder–liquid). The teeth were obturated using the single-cone technique and stored at 37°C and 100% humidity for 30 days. Subsequently, they were sectioned to obtain three slices for the push-out test. Failure patterns were analyzed under optical microscopy. Results: No significant differences were observed among the drying protocols for the BioRoot sealer (P > 0.05). However, for the Bio-C Sealer, the lowest bond strength values were recorded with the suction cannula drying method (P < 0.05), with no significant differences between the absorbent paper and isopropyl alcohol protocols (P > 0.05). Conclusions: The canal-drying protocol affected only the bond strength of the Bio-C Sealer.
Aims: To evaluate the effect of different final irrigation protocols on the push-out bond strength of EndoSeal MTA and MTA Fillapex. Methods: Sixty extracted human single-rooted teeth were allocated into six experimental groups (n = 10) according to the final irrigation protocol (distilled water, QMix, or 17% EDTA) and root canal sealer (EndoSeal MTA or MTA Fillapex). After obturation, the roots were sectioned and subjected to the pushout bond strength test. Failure modes were classified as adhesive, cohesive, or mixed. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by the Tukey-Kramer test ( = 0.05). Results: Push-out bond strength differed significantly among the experimental groups (p < 0.001). For EndoSeal MTA, QMix (0.80 ± 0.25 MPa) and EDTA (0.83 ± 0.34 MPa) resulted in significantly higher bond strength than distilled water (0.24 ± 0.11 MPa; p < 0.001), with no difference between QMix and EDTA (p > 0.05). Final irrigation did not significantly affect the bond strength of MTA Fillapex (p > 0.05). EndoSeal MTA exhibited significantly higher bond strength than MTA Fillapex after QMix or EDTA (p < 0.001), whereas the sealers did not differ after distilled water (p > 0.05). Cohesive and mixed failures predominated, while adhesive failures occurred only in the distilled water groups. Conclusions: The effect of final irrigation on push-out bond strength was sealer dependent. EDTA and QMix favored the bond strength of EndoSeal MTA, whereas MTA Fillapex was not influenced by the final irrigation protocol.
Aims: To evaluate the tissue reaction promoted after performing apicoectomy with an erbium:YAG laser compared to other methods. Methods: Seventy-two human premolars were submitted to the root resection with 699 bur carbide, 699 bur carbide and finishing with Shofu point, Zekrya bur or erbium:YAG laser. After apicoectomy, roots from the different groups were implanted in the rats subcutaneous for 48 hours, 7 and 30 days. The number of inflammatory (IC) and fibroblast (Fb) cells and the capsule thickness in the tissue adjacent to the implants was measured. Data were submitted to statistical analyses (p<0.05). Results: After 48 hours, a moderate to intense inflammatory reaction was seen in all groups. Within 7 days, a decrease in the number of inflammatory cells and increasing in the Fb adjacent to the 699+Shofu and Laser groups was noted (p<0.05). At 30 days, the comparison amongst groups showed a thinner capsule and a smaller number of IC adjacent to 699+Shofu and Laser (p<0.05). Conclusions: Both the Er:YAG laser and #699 bur with Shofu point finishing caused less intense tissue inflammation and accelerated the repair process compared to other methods.
Aims: This clinical case report describes the rehabilitation of an endodontically treated maxillary first molar presenting a defective extensive restoration and loss of the mesial marginal ridge using a conservative direct composite resin restoration associated with polyethylene fiber reinforcement. Case report: A 37-year-old female patient attended the IOA-Belém Specialization Clinic complaining about the condition of tooth #16. Clinical and radiographic examinations revealed an extensive mesio-occlusal restoration with poor marginal adaptation, compromised occlusal anatomy, and absence of restorative material in the pulp chamber. Replacement of the existing restoration was indicated. After anesthesia and rubber dam isolation, the defective restoration was removed, followed by cavity cleaning and adhesive procedures. The pulp chamber floor was sealed with flowable composite resin to protect the endodontic treatment and provide a uniform cavity base. A polyethylene reinforcing fiber (Ribbond®) was then impregnated with adhesive and strategically positioned within the cavity to connect the remaining walls and reinforce the area corresponding to the lost marginal ridge. The definitive restoration was completed with composite resin using the incremental technique, followed by finishing and polishing procedures. Results: The procedure restored the morphology and function of tooth #16 while preserving the remaining coronal tooth structure. Because no clinical follow-up was performed after the immediate postoperative assessment, the present report does not allow conclusions regarding long-term survival, longevity, or superiority over other restorative strategies. Conclusions: For the tooth described in this report, a fiber-reinforced direct composite restoration provided a conservative means of restoring form and function while preserving the remaining coronal structure. The clinical rationale was based on the distribution of the remaining tooth structure and current evidence concerning direct adhesive restorations of endodontically treated posterior teeth. Longer-term clinical follow-up is required before conclusions about durability can be drawn.
Aims: To evaluate the performance and the time required for Rotate Glider 15/.04 and Univy Glider 15/.04 instruments to reach the working length in mesiobuccal canals of three-dimensional (3D) printed replicas of mandibular molars. Methods: Thirty replicas were divided into two groups (n = 15): Rotate Glider 15/.04 and Univy Glider 15/.04. Glide path preparation was performed using a VDW Silver motor at 350 rpm and 1.5 N/cm² torque. Ability to reach WL and required time were recorded by video analysis. Success was defined as reaching WL within nine pecking motions. Data were analyzed using Fisher’s exact and Student’s t-tests. Scanning electron microscopy evaluated instruments’ cutting angle, helical angle, spiral number, and cross-sectional design. Results: No statistically significant differences were observed between the tested instruments regarding the number of pecking motions required to reach the WL or the instrumentation time (p > 0.05). Morphological analysis demonstrated differences in geometric characteristics between the instruments; however, these differences did not influence their overall performance. Conclusions: Both rotary glide path instruments demonstrated similar and satisfactory performance in reaching the WL and may be safely used prior to mechanized root canal preparation procedures.
AIMS: Internal root resorption is a rare pathological condition characterized by progressive destruction of intraradicular dentin, often associated with dental trauma. This case report describes the diagnosis and management of extensive internal root resorption in a maxillary central incisor of a 19-year-old male patient with a history of dentoalveolar trauma eight years earlier. CASE REPORT: Clinical examination revealed tooth mobility, sinus tract formation, and negative pulp sensibility tests. Radiographic evaluation demonstrated extensive internal root resorption involving the middle third of the root with perforation to the external root surface. Initial conventional endodontic treatment was attempted; however, persistent intracanal bleeding prevented completion of the procedure. A combined surgical-endodontic approach was therefore performed, including flap elevation, removal of the apical root fragment, chemomechanical preparation, obturation with gutta-percha and AH Plus sealer, and sealing of the apical portion with Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA). Clinical and radiographic follow-up was conducted over 24 months, demonstrating the absence of symptoms, mobility, and sinus tract, in addition to radiographic evidence of bone repair and tooth stability. CONCLUSION: The present case highlights the importance of long-term follow-up after dental trauma and demonstrates that even advanced cases of internal root resorption may be successfully managed through a multidisciplinary conservative approach.
Aims: this study aimed to evaluate the influence of bioceramic endodontic sealers on the bond strength of direct resin restorations. Materials and methods: seventy bovine teeth were divided into seven groups: Control group – application of the adhesive protocol and placement of the resin plug; Bio-C Sealer; Sealer Plus BC; AH Plus Bioceramic Sealer; CIMMO HP; BioRoot RCS; and Sealer Plus BC. The adhesive protocol used the Clearfil SE two-step self-etching adhesive system. A matrix (2 mm in diameter and 2 mm in height) delimited the bonding area between the adhesive and the dentin surface, which was subsequently filled with flowable resin. Shear bond strength test was performed using a 0.2 mm stainless steel wire positioned around the resin plug and parallel to the adhesive interface at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min until failure occurred. Bond strength values were obtained in kgf/mm² and converted to megapascal (MPa). Failure patterns were analyzed under an optical microscope at 16x magnification. Data were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc test, with a significance level of 5%. Results: The sealers Bio-C Sealer, Sealer Plus BC PM, AH Plus Bioceramic, and BioRoot RCS did not negatively affect the bond strength to bovine dentin, with values similar to those observed in the control group (P > 0.05). However, CIMMO HP and Sealer Plus BC powder–liquid significantly reduced bond strength (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Bio-C Sealer, pre-mixed Sealer Plus BC, AH Plus Bioceramic Sealer, and BioRoot RCS did not interfere with the bond strength values of direct resin composite restorations after shear testing. The power/liquid sealers CIMMO HP and Sealer Plus BC negatively affected bond strength. The most prevalent failure pattern was adhesive.
Aims: The aim of the study was to evaluate smear layer removal and tissue dissolution in the apical third of severely curved canals. Materials and methods: A circular cavity was created 2 mm from the apex in 30 prototyped mandibular molars with apical curvature using a 2 mm bur. Subsequently, bovine dentin discs with intentionally formed smear layers were adapted using wax. The dentin discs were subjected to evaluation under a scanning electron microscope before and after the application of different irrigation agitation methods: G1 –PEEK, G2 – ultrasonic irrigation with Irrisonic, and G3 – conventional irrigation, (n=10). All groups underwent irrigation with 2.5% NaOCl and 17% EDTA. For the tissue dissolution test, glass capillaries filled with catgut suture were fixed in the apical third and weighed before and after the above irrigation protocols. The data were statistically compared with a significance level of 5%. Results: No irrigation protocol achieved complete removal of the smear layer. The groups had no statistical differences regarding the percentage of completely clean areas (p>0.05). There was no statistical difference in tissue dissolution (p>0.05). Conclusion: No irrigation method showed a difference in smear layer removal and tissue dissolution in the apical third of the curved mesial canal of prototyped mandibular molars.
Aims: this study evaluated the influence of endodontic sealers with different compositions on the bond strength of direct restorations. Materials and methods: seventy bovine crowns were randomly divided into seven groups based on sealer type and substrate contact time. Control group without sealer; Endofill/immediate; AH Plus/immediate; Bio-C Sealer/immediate; Endofill/7 days; AH Plus/7 days; Bio-C Sealer/7 days. Sealers were removed with a cotton pellet embedded in alcohol. Adhesive protocol was performed using the two-step self-etch adhesive system and a plug with flowable resin (2mm x 3mm). Specimens were stored for one week at 95% humidity. Shear bond strength (SBS) test was performed with a stainless-steel wire placed around the resin plug and parallel to the adhesive interface. Failure pattern was analyzed with 40x magnification. Data were statistically analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey's tests, the significance level was set at 5%. Results: SBS values in AH Plus/immediate and AH Plus/7 days group were comparable to the control (P > 0.05). Endofill/immediate and Endofill/7 days presented lower SBS than control group (P < 0.05). Bio-C Sealer/immediate decreased the SBS values (P < 0.05). Conclusion: adhesive failures were the most prevalent pattern. The epoxy resin-based sealer (AH Plus) did not interfere with the SBS values of direct composite resins. Calcium silicate- (Bio-C Sealer) and zinc oxide eugenol-based (Endofill) sealers negatively affected the SBS values, especially when adhesive procedures were performed immediately after the contact with the sealer. The time elapsed between the contamination of bovine dentin and the completion of the adhesive protocol did not influence the SBS values.
Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the cyclic and torsional fatigue resistance of three thermally treated reciprocating instruments. Materials and Methods: A total of 60 reciprocating instruments were used to perform the cyclic and torsional fatigue tests: Reciproc Blue 25.08 (RB 25.08), CC One Blue File (CCO 25.08) and WaveOne Gold 25.07 (WOG 25.07) (n=20). The cyclic fatigue test was performed using an artificial stainless-steel canal with 60º angle of curvature and a 5-mm radius of curvature. The time to failure (TF) and number of cycles to failure (NCF) were evaluated. The torsional test was performed following the ISO 3630-1. Three millimeters of the instrument tip were fastened to a small load cell and the maximum torsional strength and angular deflection were recorded. The fractured surface of each instrument was assessed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The normality of the data distribution was analyzed using Shapiro-Wilk test, followed by ANOVA and Tukey’s test for Multiple comparisons at a significance level of 5%. Results: The cyclic fatigue tests demonstrated that RB 25.08 showed the highest TF and NCF values among the groups (P < 0.05). WOG 25.07 exhibited the lowest TF and NCF values (P > 0.05). Regarding the torsional test, CCO 25.08 had the highest torque among the groups (P < 0.05). Additionally, RB 25.08 exhibited the highest angular deflection values, followed by CCO 25.08 (P < 0.05). Conclusions: RB 25.08 demonstrated the highest TF, NCF and angular deflection among the tested instruments, while CCO 25.08 presented the highest torque to fracture.
AIMS: This study aimed to compare the instrumentation capabilities of three different continuous rotation preparation systems up to a #50 tip diameter instrument in a simulated double curvature canal. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The acrylic blocks were randomly divided into three groups (n = 10) according to the system used during instrumentation: G1: ProDesign Logic 2 (Easy Equipamentos Odontológicas, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil)(#15.05, #25.05, #40.05 and #50.01) G2: Sequence Rotary Files SRF ((MKLife Medical and Dental Products, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil) (#15.04, #25.06, #40.04 and #50.02) G3: Hyflex EDM (Coltene Whaledent, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, USA) (#10.05, #25/~, #40.04 and #50.03). were analyzed using the programs CTAn. SRF performed preparations with greater volume, demonstrating significant differences from Hyflex and Logic (P< 0.05). There were no differences between the Hyflex and Logic systems (P > 0.05). SRF promoted more significant wear in the internal area of the curvature than Hyflex and Logic (P < 0.05) At a level of 2mm in the external area of the curvature, Hyflex promoted more significant wear than Logic (P < 0.05). SRF promoted more significant wear in the internal area of the curvature than Hyflex and Logic (P < 0.05) CONCLUSIONS: It is possible to perform apical enlargement of the root portion in complex cases up to a #40 tip diameter. Instruments with smaller or regressive tapers preserve more cervical dentin and make it possible to respect the canal trajectory during heat treatment.
Aims: This in vitro study aimed to compare the fracture resistance of teeth restored with different provisional materials. Materials and methods: Twenty single-rooted human incisors were prepared and randomly divided into four groups (n = 5), according to the provisional restorative material used: Coltosol, IRM, Vidrion R Plus, and J-Temp. A standardized 4 mm thickness of provisional material was placed in each cavity, and specimens were embedded in acrylic resin cylinders, maintaining 3 mm of the coronal root exposed to simulate biological conditions. Fracture resistance was evaluated using a universal testing machine with a 135° load angle, simulating occlusal contact. Load at fracture (N), load application time (s), and displacement (mm) were recorded. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc test (sig 5%). Results: No statistically significant differences were found among the groups for load application time and displacement (p > 0.05). However, J-Temp exhibited significantly higher fracture resistance than all other materials (p < 0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that J-Temp not only ensures adequate provisional sealing but also reinforces coronal structure, making it a promising alternative in cases requiring higher mechanical performance. Further long-term clinical studies are warranted to confirm its effectiveness under oral conditions.
Aims: The aim of this study was to systematically review clinical studies that estimated the volumetric reduction of periapical lesions in endodontically treated teeth in one versus two-visit using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and methods: This systematic review followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines and was registered on the Open Science Framework (DOI10.17605/OSF.IO/97Q8E). Studies were collected from PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, EMBASE, Livivo, SciELO, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library and gray literature. Eligibility criteria included clinical studies that compared the volumetric reduction of periapical lesions in endodontically treated teeth in one or two visits assessed by CBCT. Risk of bias analysis was performed using the Cochrane RoB Tool. Meta-analysis was conducted with the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software, using the random effects model and odds ratio. Results: Two studies met the inclusion criteria (Kappa= 0.826). Among the included studies, one exhibited a high risk of bias, while the other raised some concerns. The two studies yielded a total sample of 47 teeth. The meta-analysis revealed an effect size of -0.318 (95% CI: -0.896 - 0.260; p=0.281). The test for heterogeneity indicated values of I²:0.000; Tau:0.000; Q-value:0.844 (p=0.358).Conclusion: Under the limitations of this study, no statistically significant difference was observed between endodontic treatment of teeth with apical periodontitis in one or two visits regarding volumetric reduction of periapical lesion using CBCT scans.
Aims: To evaluate some properties of a new powder/liquid bioceramic material, Sealer Plus BC, in comparison to MTA Flow, in different consistencies. Materials and Methods: Both materials were mixing in a thick and fluid consistency. After manipulation, the materials were evaluated for initial and final setting time, radiopacity, pH, flow, solubility and cytotoxicity by MTT test. All the data obtained were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey's test. Results: The results showed that the materials in both consistencies presented similar setting time, radiopacity and flow. Besides, presented an alkaline pH and low cytotoxicity. Sealer Plus BC had a significant higher solubility in comparison to MTA Flow. Conclusions: Therefore, considering these properties, the Sealer Plus BC powder/liquid formulation exhibits appropriate properties in thick or fluid consistency and can be used for different clinical applications.
Aims: To evaluate the performance of two biomaterials from different brands, Extra graft (Silvestre Labs, Brazil) and Orthogen Collagen (Baumer, S.A) by analyzing cone beam computed tomography images at two moments. Case report: A 69-year-old female patient with spontaneous pain in the region of lower anterior teeth (34 and 44) attended a university dental clinic and reported a history of edema around tooth 44. Intraoral examination revealed deep carious lesions with subgingival extension and vestibular bone loss in both teeth. Treatment consisted of extraction of both teeth, curettage of the alveoli, and application of bone substitutes, aiming at future rehabilitation with implant-supported prostheses. Conclusion: The Extra Graft graft (Silvestre Labs, Brazil) presented a more satisfactory result in bone gain, when clinically compared to Orthogen Collagen (Baumer, S.A), despite this, both biomaterials performed alveolar bone preservation.
The aim of this study was to investigate irrigation practices adopted by Brazilian endodontic specialists, highlighting differences related to professional experience and regional diversity. This cross-sectional observational study included endodontists from five Brazilian states. Participants completed a questionnaire comprising five socio-demographic items and seven items related to irrigation protocols. Responses were analyzed to identify regional and experience-based differences using the chi-square test. 333 endodontists from Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Santa Catarina (SC), Mato Grosso (MT), and Mato Grosso do Sul (MS) responded to the questionnaire. Most were from RS, and 66.4% were female. Sodium hypochlorite was the most used irrigant, ranging from 66.7% (SC) to 94.3% (MS and MT) (P=0.005), and from 69.3% (5–9 years) to 90.4% (10–15 years since graduation) (P=0.002). Irrigant activation was reported by 85.4% of specialists in RJ, 92.6% in SC, 95.9% in RS, and 97.1% in MT and MS (P=0.014), with no significant difference by graduation time. Ultrasound and EasyClean were the most used activation methods, with significant associations to both region (P<0.001 and P=0.003, respectively) and time since graduation (P=0.037 and P<0.001, respectively). Despite regional and experiential differences, a clear trend toward the adoption of evidence-based irrigation strategies—particularly the use of sodium hypochlorite and irrigant activation protocols—was observed among Brazilian endodontists. These findings highlight a degree of consistency in clinical practice across diverse regions, while also underscoring the importance of continued efforts to promote standardized, science-driven approaches to root canal disinfection.
Aims: To evaluate the irradiance level of the light-curing units (LCUs) used in the Dental Clinics of the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI) and the influence of the physical integrity of the light guide tips on this parameter. Materials and methods: 22 LCUs from the Dabi Atlante Ultraled (Dabi Atlante, Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil) and Dentemed Prime Led 2 (Dentemed, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil) models were randomly selected, as well as two light tips of each for testing: one in excellent condition and the other damaged and with debris build-up. A Valo Cordless LCU (Ultradent, Indaiatuba, São Paulo, Brazil) was used as the control. Irradiance was measured with an RD-7 radiometer (Ecel, Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil) with three measurements on each light-curing unit, with a 20 second interval between each measurement, and the average of the measurements was used. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Mann-Whitney U test, Wilcoxon's W test, and Student's t-test for paired samples. Results: The two LCU models used at UFPI, with the two types of light tips selected, showed average irradiances above 400 mW/cm², with the exception of the Dabi Atlante Ultraled model when using a damaged tip with debris build-up, which showed an average of 191 mW/cm² under these conditions. The performance of the Dentemed brand was statistically superior to that of the Dabi Atlante brand (p<0.05), while the performance of both brands using tips in excellent condition was also statistically superior when compared to the performance using tips with debris build-up and damaged (p<0.05). Conclusion: The LCUs evaluated presented irradiance below the values indicated by the manufacturers and the physical integrity of the light curing tips significantly influenced this parameter, with a reduction observed when damaged tips and those with debris build-up were used.
Aims: This bibliometric study aims to investigate the relationship between the number of citations and the number of accesses of the most cited articles in three orthodontic journals over a 5-year period (20172022). Material and Methods: Only journals ranked in the first quartile by impact factor were considered. The 50 most cited articles from three orthodontic journals (The Angle Orthodontist - AO, European Journal of Orthodontics - EJO, and Progress in Orthodontics - PO) were selected using the Web of Science database. A total of 150 articles published between 2017 and 2022 were analyzed, excluding those from 2023 and 2024 to allow sufficient time for comparable accumulation of citations and access metrics. Citation and access data were tabulated and statistically analyzed, employing median, interquartile range, Spearman's correlation, and linear regression analysis. Results: Descriptive analysis revealed significant variations in citations and accesses across the journals. The average number of citations for the 50 most cited articles was 41±25.5 for AO, 26±11.5 for EJO, and 24±17 for PO. Regarding accesses, the average number was 5010±3166 for AO, 3156±1776 for EJO, and 7785±4303 for PO. The correlation between the number of citations and accesses was weak for AO and PO (r=0.39; p=0.005) and non-existent for EJO (r=0.13; p=0.36). When analyzing all three journals collectively, no significant correlation was found between citation and access (r=0.15; p=0.06). Conclusions: There was a low correlation between the number of citations and accesses. These findings should be interpreted with caution, as drawing direct conclusions could be misleading. The hypotheses generated in this study may provide a foundation for future investigations, encouraging further research on this topic.
Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate pH, calcium ion release, solubility, and push-out bond strength of Biodentine (BD), Bioaggregate (BA), MTA salicylate experimental sealer containing 10% (MTAE 10-CH) or 20% calcium hydroxide (MTAE 20-CH) and White MTA Angelus (MTA). Materials and Methods: Fifty acrylic teeth with root-end filling materials (n = 10) were immersed in ultrapure water to measure pH and calcium ion release, at 7 and 30 days. In the solubility test the same kind of samples were scanned by Micro-CT before and after immersion in ultrapure water for 7 and 30 days. Fifty slices of conoid bovine tooth were obtained from the apical third of the root and retrofilled (n = 10). After 7 days the specimens were submitted to push-out bond strength test. Results: The BD and BA presented the highest alkaline values at 7 days. At 30 days, MTAE10-CH presented the highest alkaline values. The MTA presented the highest calcium ion release in the two periods evaluated. The BA and MTA presented the lowest solubility values. At 30 days, these values were higher at 3% of solubility, in relation to other groups. BD presented the highest and MTAE 10-CH the lowest bond strength. Bioaggregate and white MTA presented the lowest solubility and similar chemical properties. Although Biodentine presented the highest bond strength value, it showed high solubility. Conclusion: Bioaggregate and white MTA presented the lowest solubility and similar chemical properties. Biodentine showed satisfactory bond strength to apical dentine but exhibited high solubility. Experimental MTA sealers with 10% or 20% calcium hydroxide showed high solubility and poor bond strength.
Aims: To present a case report on a partial restorative procedure in anterior teeth, based on the principles of minimal intervention, in a young patient with esthetic dissatisfaction. Case Report: A 20-year-old female patient presented to a dental clinic at a Higher Education Institution with the main complaint of esthetic dissatisfaction and an "aged smile" that made it difficult for her to interact socially. Intraoral examination revealed pronounced wear on the anterior teeth with an absence of protrusive guidance. Given these characteristics, the direct incisal recontouring technique was chosen for teeth 11 and 21, performed in a single session using composite resin. The 18-month follow-up showed an adequate result with the maintenance and preservation of the restorative treatment. Conclusions: The proposed restorative procedure allowed for a satisfactory esthetic outcome, restoring a youthful, esthetic, and functional smile profile while prioritizing the preservation of healthy dental tissue and aligning with the principles of minimal intervention.
