The study was validated using the conventional means of discussion and consultation with the project supervisors and experts in election studies. The Test-retest method was used to establish the reliability of the instruments employed for the study within which percentile ratings and chi-square were employed for data analysis. The study found that the pattern of management of adhoc electoral staff contributed to the rise in the level of election violence within the state under review given that lack of transparency in recruitment, inadequate training, inadequate remuneration and absence of disciplinary measures for erring adhoc electoral staff were of primary significance in election fraud and attendant violence. The study also found that the process of recruitment of adhoc staff was rarely transparent. The study recommends that the government needs to evolve a reliable process of adhoc staff recruitment while providing for adequate training and remuneration in future elections.

Controlling religious gathering during the time of rapid spread of COVID-19 pandemic becomes a serious problem faced by governments at all levels. In fact, all other areas of human endeavor where large gatherings could take place in Nigeria such as club houses, beer parlors, ceremonial gatherings, schools and institutions, market places including kiosks and shops, airports and motor parks, commercial and other money-deposit banks, private and public offices, etcetera were kept under perfect control by government except the religious centers. The global trend of COVID-19 pandemic has become more worrisome as the incidence keeps increasing every day. Curtailing its spread among the human race should be a responsibility to be performed by every individual not only in Nigeria but also in the whole world. However, the influence of religious organizations can never be overlooked in dealing with societal attitude towards curtailing the outbreak of the pandemic. Therefore, the data used for this study were sourced via an online survey designed from Google account with a link. Having expunged incomplete information from the responses received, two thousand, three hundred and sixty useful ones were analyzed using R software. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentages and graphics were employed alongside chi-squared test as statistical tools. Empirically, results reveal that it’s the responsibility of everyone to encourage curtailing the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. Also, it’s established that religious followers do not fear the pandemic; they only obeyed government’s lock-down directive. Though majority of the citizens (84%) consider this policy as punishment, people prefer worshipping their God (gods) at home, if possible from home while engaging with their daily commercial activities. Hence, the study also reveals that most of the religious teachings during the pandemic were meant to publicly sensitize citizens about how dangerous COVID-19 is. This was supported by approximately 73% of the respondents. We therefore recommend that representatives of religious leaders and organizations should be involved during policy formulation, especially health-related policies as evidenced from the study.

During the period from the late Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty, some Chinese scholars began to translate western science and culture. Li Zhizao, an excellent Chinese scientist, not only introduced a lot about western religion to the Chinese people, but also translated a great deal of western scientific knowledge. He committed himself to the introduction of western science and translation of western books, greatly promoting the advance of science in China. This paper first reviews the previous studies on scientific translation during the period from the late Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty, and the previous studies on Li Zhizao, then holds that: (1) the previous studies mainly focus on the contribution of Li Zhizao as a scholar or translator in general, rather than his specific translation activities and his translation contribution to the Chinese science development; (2) the previous studies are relatively scattered and need to go deeper. Therefore, a systematic and in-depth study of Li Zhizao’s translation needs to be made.

In recent years, Chinese American science fiction shows the integration of science, literature and humanistic care into an organic whole. Chinese American science fiction writers combine the elements of science and technology with the realistic social problems in their works to expose the dilemmas between the development of science and technology and human society, thus the issues of artificial intelligence ethics, technological alienation and the rights and interests of the marginal group have gradually become the central concern in Chinese American science fictions. In essence, the focus of Chinese American science fiction writers transcends ethnic barriers and shows a kind of post-ethnic universal humanistic care, which has a positive and practical significance for building a new world order of harmony and fraternity.
