Fusion, in all its varieties, is a very current subject of science and technology. The results of strongly exothermic reaction of thermonuclear fusion between nuclei of deuterium and tritium are: helium nuclei and neutrons, plus considerable kinetic energy of neutrons of over 14 MeV. DT nuclides synthesis reaction is probably not the most favorable one for energy production, but is the most advanced technologically. More efficient would be possibly an aneutronic fusion. The EU by its EURATOM agenda prepared a Road Map for research and implementation of Fusion as a commercial method of thermonuclear energy generation in the time horizon of 2050.The milestones on this road are tokomak experiments JET, ITER and DEMO, and neutron experiment IFMIF. There is a hope, that by engagement of the national government, and all research and technical fusion and plasma communities, part of this Road Map may be realized in Poland. The infrastructure build for fusion experiments may be also used for material engineering research, chemistry, biomedical, associated with environment protection, power engineering, security, etc. Construction of such research and industrial accelerator and tokomak infrastructure may have potentially a profound meaning for the development of science and technology in Poland.
The paper presents considerations on implementation of function blocks of the IL language, as fragments of control programs that use these blocks. Subsequently, the predefined function blocks of the IL language have been applied to implementation in a Central Processing Unit for a programmable controller based on standard microcontroller from such families as MCS-51, AVR and ARM with the Cortex-M3 core. The considerations refer to the IL language revision that is fully compliant with the IEC-61131-3 standards. The completed theoretical analysis demonstrated that the adopted method of the module description is really reasonable and offers substantial advantages as compared to direct calls of function modules already developed as subroutines. Also the executed experiments have proved the feasibility to arrange central units of programmable controllers on the basis of standard microcontrollers and such central units may be competitive to compact CPUs available on the market for typical PLCs.
The report revolve on building construction engineering and management, in which there are a lot of requirements such as well supervision and accuracy and being in position to forecast uncertainties that may arise and mechanisms to solve them. It also focuses on the way the building and construction can minimise the cost of building and wastages of materials. The project will be based of heuristic methods of Artificial Intelligence (AI). There are various evolution methods, but report focus on two experiments Pattern Recognition and Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP). The Pattern Recognition focuses Evolutionary Support Vector Machine Inference System for Construction Management. The construction is very dynamic are has a lot of uncertainties, no exact data this implies that the inference should change according to the environment so that it can fit the reality, therefore there a need of Support Vector Machine Inference System to solve these problems. TSP focus on reducing cost of building construction engineering and also reduces material wastages, through its principals of finding the minimum cost path of the salesman.

The Compact Muon Solenoid CMS is one of the major detectors of the LHC Large Hadron Collider accelerator. The second, a competitive brother, is Atlas. The accelerator complex in CERN was shut down for two years, after two years of exploitation, and will resume its work in 2015. During this break, called long shutdown LS1 a number of complex components, including electronics and photonics, will be intensely refurbished. Not only the LHC itself but also the booster components and detectors. In particular, the beam luminosity will be doubled, as well as the colliding beam energy. This means tenfold increase in the integrated luminosity over a year to 250fb−1/y. Discovery potential will be increased. This potential will be used for subsequent two years, with essentially no breaks, till the LS2 in 2017. The paper presents an introduction to the research area of the LHC and chosen aspects of the CMS detector modernization. The Warsaw CMS Group is involved in CMS construction, commissioning, maintenance and refurbishment, in particular for algorithms and hardware of the muon trigger. The Group consists of members form the following local research institutions, academic and governmental: IFD-UW, NCBJ-´Swierk and ISEWEiTI- PW.
In this paper, analytical expressions for the distribution of the envelope and phase of linearly modulated signals such as BPSK, M-PSK, and M-QAM in AWGN are presented. We perform numerical simulations for different orders of signal constellations. The results show that the proposed theoretical models are in excellent agreement with the estimated distributions from various numerical experiments.
The article presents a hardware implementation of the foreground object detection algorithm PBAS (Pixel-Based Adaptive Segmenter) with a scene analysis module. A mechanism for static object detection is proposed, which is based on consecutive frame differencing. The method allows to distinguish stopped foreground objects (e.g. a car at the intersection, abandoned luggage) from false detections (so-called ghosts) using edge similarity. The improved algorithm was compared with the original version on popular test sequences from the changedetection. net dataset. The obtained results indicate that the proposed approach allows to improve the performance of the method for sequences with the stopped objects. The algorithm has been implemented and successfully verified on a hardware platform with Virtex 7 FPGA device. The PBAS segmentation, consecutive frame differencing, Sobel edge detection and advanced one-pass connected component analysis modules were designed. The system is capable of processing 50 frames with a resolution of 720 x 576 pixels per second.
In this paper we present analysis of the influence of filter characteristics of Wavelength Division Multiplexing network components and transmission parameters over interchannel crosstalk for symmetric and asymmetric transmission. The simulation was carried out for bit rate 10 Gb/s, 40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s considering the following modulations: DPSK, DQPSK and OOK. The obtained results show that OOK and DQPSK modulation are better than DPSK modulation in terms of crosstalk occurring during the transmission of signals in Wavelength Division Multiplexing systems.
In this paper a general method for the determination of the series inductance of polygonal tapered inductors is presented. The value obtained can be integrated into any integrated inductor lumped element model, thus granting the overall characterization of the device and the evaluation of performance parameters such as the quality factor or the resonance frequency. In this work, the inductor is divided into several segments and the corresponding self and mutual inductances are calculated. In the end, results obtained for several working examples are compared against electromagnetic (EM) simulations are performed in order to check the validity of the model for square, hexagonal, octagonal and tapered inductors. The proposed method depends exclusively on the geometric characteristics of the inductor as well as the technological parameters. This allows its straight forward application to any inductor shape or technology.
The paper presents the extent of fault effects in FPGA based systems and concentrates on transient faults (induced by single event upsets - SEUs) within the configuration memory of FPGA. An original method of detailed analysis of fault effect propagation is presented. It is targeted at microprocessor based FPGA systems using the developed fault injection technique. The fault injection is performed at HDL description level of the microprocessor using special simulators and developed supplementary programs. The proposed methodology is illustrated for soft PicoBlaze microprocessor running 3 programs. The presented results reveal some problems with fault handling at the software level.
This paper deals with an extension of the Rosenstark’s linear model of an amplifier to a nonlinear one for the purpose of performing nonlinear distortion analysis. Contrary to an approach using phasors, our method uses the Volterra series. Relying upon the linear model mentioned above, we define first a set of the so-called amplifier’s constitutive equations in an operator form. Then, we expand operators using the Volterra series truncated to the first three components. This leads to getting two representations in the time domain, called in-network and inputoutput type descriptions of an amplifier. Afterwards, both of these representations are transferred into the multi-frequency domains. Their usefulness in calculations of any nonlinear distortion measure as, for example, harmonic, intermodulation, and/or cross-modulation distortion is demonstrated. Moreover, we show that they allow a simple calculation of the so-called nonlinear transfer functions in any topology as, for example, of cascade and feedback structures and their combinations occurring in single-, two-, and three-stage amplifiers. Examples of such calculations are given. Finally in this paper, we comment on usage of such notions as nonlinear signals, intermodulation nonlinearity, and on identification of transfer function poles and zeros lying on the frequency axis with related real-valued frequencies.
A high performance, ultra-low power, fully differential 2 nd-order continuous-time Sigma Delta analogue-to-digital modulator for cardiac pacemakers is presented in this paper. The entire design procedure is described in detail from the high-level system synthesis in both discrete and continuous-time domain, to the low-level circuit implementation of key functional blocks of the modulator. The power consumption of the designed modulator is rated at 182 nA from a 1.2V power supply, meeting the ultra-low power requirement of the cardiac pacemaker applications. A 65 nm CMOS technology is employed to implement the Sigma Delta modulator. The modulator achieves a simulated SNR of 53.8 dB over a 400Hz signal bandwidth, with 32KHz sampling frequency and an oversampling ratio of 40. The active area of the modulator is 0.45 x 0.50 mm(2).
Characteristics of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) such as lack of central coordination, dynamic topology and limited resources pose a challenging problem in quality of service (QoS) routing. Providing an efficient, robust and low overhead QoS unicast route from source to destination is a critical issue. Bandwidth and route stability are the major important QoS parameters for applications where long duration connections are required with stringent bandwidth requirements for multimedia applications. This paper proposes an On-demand Bandwidth and Stability based Unicast Routing scheme (OBSUR) in MANET by adding additional QoS features to existing Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol. The objective of the OBSUR is to provide QoS satisfied, reliable and robust route for communicating nodes. The scheme works in following steps. (1) Each node in the network periodically (small regular intervals) estimates bandwidth availability, node and link stability, buffer availability, and stability factor between nodes. (2) Construction of neighbor stability and QoS database at every node which is used in route establishment process. (3) The unicast path is constructed by using route request and route reply packets with the help of route information cache, and (4) route maintenance in case of node mobility and route failures. Simulation results show that there is an improvement in terms of traffic admission ratio, control overhead, packet delivery ratio, end to end delay and throughput as compared to Route Stability Based QoS Routing (RSQR) in MANETs.
Tactical ad-hoc networks are evolving today towards complex heterogeneous networks in terms of architecture, protocols and security. Due to the difference in network resources and reliability, end-to-end quality of service provisioning becomes very challenging. If we also take into account communication issues such as unpredictable connectivity, preferential forwarding for special traffic classes, intermittency due to node or communication link failure, the problem is further aggravated. In this article, we examine the major challenges that must be solved in order to provide efficient QoS provisioning in the heterogeneous network. Finally we describe QoS-aware mechanisms for inter-domain and intra-domain heterogeneous networks, also including real-time services provision in highly mobile environments.
The aim of this paper is to present an overview of a new branch of analog electronics represented by analog reconfigurable circuits. The reconfiguration of analog circuits has been known and used since the beginnings of electronics, but the universal reconfigurable circuits called Field Programmable Analog Arrays (FPAA) have been developed over the last two decades. This paper presents the classification of analog circuit reconfiguration, examples of FPAA solutions obtained as academic projects and commercially available ones, as well as some application examples of the dynamic reconfiguration of FPAA.
The output of the quadrature demodulator is generally regarded as a complex signal that is circular if only the demodulator is well balanced. In the paper we analyze properties of quadrature demodulators, particularly digital one, and show that the output is noncircular also if the input signal is nonstationary. Then we find sources of this noncircularity and show that they stem from transients of the low-pass demodulator filter. This is quite important because nonstationary inputs are quite typical in radar where power of echoes depends strongly on range. In the first sections we also review complex random signals and properties of circularity and properness.
Mobile vehicle identification has a wide application field for both civilian and military uses. Vehicle identification may be achieved by incorporating single or multiple sensor solutions and through data fusion. This paper considers a single-sensor multistage hierarchical algorithm of acoustic signal analysis and pattern recognition for the identification of mobile vehicles in an open environment. The algorithm applies several standalone techniques to enable complex decision-making during event identification. Computationally inexpensive procedures are specifically chosen in order to provide real-time operation capability. The algorithm is tested on pre-recorded audio signals of civilian vehicles passing the measurement point and shows promising classification accuracy. Implementation on a specific embedded device is also presented and the capability of real-time operation on this device is demonstrated.
The paper presents a new method of structured encoding of global internal states and events in Reconfigurable Logic Controllers, which are directly mapped into Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA). Modular, concurrently decomposed, colored state machine is chosen as a intermediate model, before the mapping of Petri net into an array structure of dedicated but very flexible and reliable digital system. The initial textual specification in formal Gentzen logic serves both as a design description for a rapid prototyping, as well as formal model, suitable for detailed computer-based reasoning about optimized and synthesized logic controller, implemented in configurable hardware. Only the selected linear subset from general, universal propositional Gentzen Logic is necessary to deduce several properties of the net, such as relations of nonconcurrency among structurally ordered macroplaces. The goal of this paper is to present the design methodology for modeling and synthesis of discrete controllers using related Petri net theory, rule-based theory (mathematical logic), and VHDL.
This paper deals with the problem of implementing adaptive radar tracking filters based on continuous-time models of target motion and on discrete-time models of measurement process. The particular difficulties addressed include: nonlinear and non-stationary target movement models with uncertain parameters, and low data rate due to a rotating radar antenna. The proposed tracking filter relies basically on the continuous-discrete variant of the extended Kalman filter (EKF), the probabilistic data association (PDA) technique and the interacting multiplemodel (IMM) state estimation scheme. Numerical properties of the algorithm are discussed and a software implementation is developed using the open-source BLAS library. Several design concepts are combined to assure numerical stability, convergence and efficiency of the estimator.
In This paper, we propose a directive triangular EBG antenna. This approach is derived from using an EBG surface near to a triangular patch with two grilles. The antenna frequency chosen is the 2.45GHz. The directive antenna is simulated by using HFSS and Electrical model. This proposed antenna presents a very high directivity.
