
Summary: Different linear profiles for current density are employed to investigate the relationship between current variation, porosity and stress during anodisation of porous silicon. This is an important precursor to fabrication of stress free porous silicon MEMS devices.
Autogenous synthesis of metal borides occurs between 350oC–500oC and 1MPa–2.5Mpa using sodium, potassium or magnesium borohydride reactants. Products obtained in high yield by this method include MgB2, Ni2B, Ni3B, BaB6 and MgNi3B2.
We have shown that novel synthesis methods combined with careful evaluation of DFT phonon calculations provides new insight into boron compounds including a capacity to predict Tc for AlB2-type superconductors.

This study aims to determine the impact of ocean acidification on Southern Ocean pteropods via a detailed understanding of the structural properties of their shells. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to investigate the structure of shells that had been cleaned and dried compared with the structure of shells that were imaged directly from the preserving ethanol. Although the microstructure of the shell remains largely intact after the chemical cleaning and drying process, the removal of interstitial organic matter appears to have a dramatic effect on the mechanical integrity of the structure.
