This research aimed to determine the building blocks of a compelling employee value proposition that will attract graduate interns to potential employers and retain them for a career in a given organisations. A qualitative research approach was applied using semistructured interviews and a focus group to gather from Human Resource Management (HRM) practitioners (N = 25) and graduate interns (N=10) who participated in an internship programme for HRM graduates. The data was analysed by using theme/content analyses. The results of the study showed that a properly assembled employee value proposition for graduate interns should include the following: Functional components (i.e. training and development, mentorship guidance, leave and insurance); financial components (i.e. stipend, travel allowance, overtime) and psychological components (interpersonal relationships with mentors, wellness). The participants viewed stipends and opportunities for training and development as important factors that will attract and retain graduate interns to organisations. Recommendations are made.
THE PREVALENCE OF ORGANISED CROSS-BORDER CRIMES IN SOUTH AFRICA: A NON-EMPIRICAL STATISTICAL DATA ANALYSIS ON STOCK THEFT AND HIJACKING OF MOTOR VEHICLES
Sustainable Development Goal One demands the reduction of poverty, hence holds significance in the South African context where a high unemployment rate still prevails, hampering socio-economic development of the country as a whole. In addition, poverty is linked to gender inequality with female counterparts occupying fewer jobs in the South African labour market than men. This situation is even more dire at grassroots levels, where a lack of education and civic awareness, inadequate gender-based poverty alleviation policies, and inappropriate gender-based participation in pro-poor growth strategies, contribute towards the weakening of women’s empowerment. This article hypothesises that gender equality in poverty reduction strategies could have a positive impact in the realisation of Sustainable Development Goal One. In order to explore the gender equality measures in poverty reduction initiatives, the article utilizes a qualitative research approach with an exploratory design. This involved distributing a survey questionnaire to residents of Emfuleni Local Municipality as part of the Mainstreaming Gender Equality (MGE) approach to promote equal opportunities in poverty reduction programmes at grassroots level in South Africa. The responses showed that community members are changing their perspectives on gender equality, the role of gender in achieving Development Goal One, and the significance of gender-based contributions towards social-economic development. The article recommends that future research should focus on gender-disaggregated needs, gender-sensitive roles, gender-based demographic data, and gendermainstreaming, as policy options for socio-economic development at local government level in South Africa.
The study was conducted with the main objective of exploring the relationships between self-efficacy, organisational commitment, job satisfaction and satisfaction with life among a cohort of amateur sport coaches in South Africa. This study is premised within a post-positivism cross-sectional quantitative research design, and a total of 250 conveniently selected amateur sports coaches participated in the study. The statistical analysis of the collected data included descriptive statistics, reliability and validity analysis as well as correlation analysis. Further, confirmatory factor analysis and a structural path modelling were undertaken to assess the relationship between the constructs under investigation. The results of the study indicate that there is a significant positive relationship between self-efficacy and organisational commitment, organisational commitment and job satisfaction, organisational commitment and satisfaction with life and self-efficacy with satisfaction with life. While the study, surprisingly, did not find any significant relationship between self-efficacy and job satisfaction as well as job satisfaction and satisfaction with life, it is important that this aspect also receive attention and importance in the career of amateur sports coaches. Based on these results, it is recommended that further research from a predictive validity perspective be pursued in order to substantiate the findings and to improve the generalisability thereof.
The aim of this study is to explore concerns of 10 academics at a university in South Africa who participated in an in-house professional development programme and recommend how such concerns could be addressed. Guided by the Concerns-Based Adoption Model (CBAM), a qualitative, interpretive research design was adopted. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysed qualitatively. The results indicated that organisers of successful staff development programmes need to inform the participants (informational concerns) about the nature of the programme and to explain the impact of the programme on individual participants (personal concerns). Participants were also concerned about how the change due to training would be managed in practice (management concerns) and the consequences of the programme on the students (consequence concerns). The study confirmed that being aware of trainees’ concerns enables programme organisers to give relevant assistance to individual trainees and reinforce attraction to the programme. It is recommend that concerns of trainees be addressed pre and during the process of training.
CHALLENGES FACING RURAL COMMUNITIES IN ACCESSING SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT
The combination of voluntary approaches to climate change policy and a growing interest in local action on climate change has supported climate change politics where multiple forms of governance, rather than a regulatory understanding of governing, play a fundamental role in addressing the challenges. Intermediaries such as business, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and communities play a profound role towards climate change and governance in urban areas, and subsequently offer the local government with an innovation potential. However, urban areas are also a site of political struggle where climate change politics manifest. Conflicting political ideologies create a problem in terms of climate change adaptation policy formulation and implementation. The discussion surrounding the notion of urban governance is intrinsically linked to discourses about who has the responsibility to deliver climate change action to participate in acts of governing. The paper argues that urban governance as a complementary mechanism rather than a principal means of addressing climate change requires a multi-stakeholder engagement to palliate climate politics that derail local actions towards addressing climate change. The paper concludes that a multilevel and urban governance approach has the potential to palliate the lack of knowledge about climate change, thereby changing the entrenched ideologies to ensure adaptability towards climate change.

The research on mental imagery in South Africa is nascent, thereby profferingfertile ground for understanding how sensory experiences and conative reactionstowards hotel websites could be enhanced. This consequence steered the adoptionof a unique cognitive epochin this work, wherein the influence of mental imageryon therevisit intentions of hotel clienteleis investigated. In this vein, this studyasserts that selected website atmospheric elements are responsible for activatingmental imagery among potential hotel guests. While using a self-administeredsurvey instrument on a sample of372South African consumers, a structuralequation modelling methodology was applied. The results of the study establishedthat aesthetics ( #946;=+0.650; p #706;0.01), symbolism ( #946;=+0.276;p #706;0.01) andplayfulness ( #946;=+0.252;p #706;0.01) are the three website stimuli that promote thedevelopment of mental imagery among consumers who visit hotel websites.Furthermore, mental imagery was found to have a positive and significant influenceon the revisit intentions of hotel guests( #946;=+0.703;p #706;0.01). The results of thisstudyshednovellight on extant online retailing literaturethat seeks to advancethemental imagery perspective. The current research study is premised on theoretical frameworks that are embedded in different human behaviour studies, which have been conducted by researchers in the past. The different theories underlying the research will be discussed. This study aims to provide a more complete picture of the Organisational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB), Perceived Organisational Support (POS) and Job Satisfaction (JS), in the South African Police Service (SAPS) and contribute towards cultivating a more professional corps of SAPS officials.A quantitative and descriptive research method was used to investigate a sample size of 300 police officials working at police stations in the Tygerberg Cluster of SAPS.Data was collected with the aid of a structured questionnaire. The reliability and validity were increased by conducting a pre-test and a pilot study prior to the final study.A factor analytic procedure was followed for each of the three constructs. The results of the correlation analysis revealed a negative relationship between POS and OCB and between JS and OCB.The data, however, indicated positive correlations between JS and POS.Findings and recommendations in this study are important to government, SAPS, individual members and commanders as it provides information regarding types of activities and interventions to enhance perceived organisational support, job satisfaction and behaviours associated with organisational citizenship.
