This research aims to evaluate elements involved in the transition of children with intellectual disabilities between Early Childhood Education and Elementary School. It is based on the concepts of multireferentiality and complexity of Arduino (1998) and Coulon (1998), as well as on reflective and processual assessment (Esteban; 2014). Methodologically, it adopts qualitative assumptions and bibliographic research (Gil, 2002; Michels, 2009) to understand how academic productions in the field of Special Education have been debating assessment and the transition between stages of education. To this end, it selects: a) theses and dissertations as a discursive genre, available in the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD) and the website of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes); b) studies from 2008 onwards, with the publication of the National Policy on Special Education from an Inclusive Perspective; c) the aforementioned stages of education; d) research related to intellectual disability. As a result, the study pointed to the following aspects to be evaluated: a) identification of student needs; b) school planning; c) teaching and learning processes; d) large-scale assessment and Special Education. These elements are indicated in the literature as necessary to consider the transition of children from one stage to another with an inclusive approach.
This article presents the results of research conducted during a research internship abroad as part of a sandwich doctorate program at the University of Extremadura (Badajoz, Spain), funded by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). The overall objective of this article is to present a mapping of Spanish research and to explain how it has described research methodologies with children, using arithmetic thinking as a reference. The data was produced from a mapping of doctoral theses defended between 2014 and 2023 available in two repositories: Teseo (a system of the Ministry of Universities) and Dialnet Plus, maintained by the University of La Rioja (UNIRIOJA). The theoretical framework discusses arithmetic thinking in the early years of schooling, as well as the theoretical and methodological influences on children's mathematical development and learning. In terms of results, identifying the theses enabled methodological reflection on new approaches. It inspired the development of specific data-collection instruments for use in the doctoral research entitled “Psychogenesis of Mathematical Learning: psychopedagogical reflections on the arithmetic field in the early years,” linked to the Postgraduate Program in Education (PPGE) at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar).
This article analyses the benefits of implementing Formative and Shared Assessment (FSA) systems in initial teacher training for early years education, specifically in relation to the following variables: (1) satisfaction with the FSA system used and the ‘Guided Learning Projects’ (GLP) methodology; (b) academic performance. To this end, the organisation and delivery of the module ‘Fundamentals of Physical Education in Early Childhood Education’, taught as part of initial teacher training for the 0–6 age group, are explained in detail. The subject combines a theoretical-practical approach with a system of Formative and Shared Assessment (F&SA). Its main strategies include Tutored Learning Projects (TLP), the use of concept maps, didactic worksheets to reflect on practices, discussion groups and a final exam complemented by peer-assessment. The results show a high level of student satisfaction with the TLP (3.84/5) and with the usefulness of the experience (4.45/5), highlighting that it significantly favours the development of professional competences (4.37/5). Likewise, it is identified that the F&SA system allows a greater interrelation between theory and practice, encourages active learning and offers constant feedback. In terms of academic performance, the continuous learning pathway shows the best results, followed by the blended pathway and the final exam pathway. These findings highlight the effectiveness of the methodological and assessment approach to comprehensive Teacher Education in children's physical and motor education.
With the regulation of learning assessment in the Angolan education system, transformations are occurring in the teaching and learning process. This article aims to analyze the role of formative assessment in primary and secondary general education. It is a documentary analysis study exploring official documents articulated with bibliographic analysis. Progressive changes are observed in the assessment processes established at the regulatory level, especially when compared to the learning assessment system initially established with the implementation of the educational reform. The regulation establishes formative assessment as the main modality in the education system, although it is subject to continuous classificatory assessment processes to some extent. In conclusion, formative assessment in the educational context under study suggests its identification with an essentially punctual regulatory perspective.
This paper presents a study aimed at analysing the process of verticalisation of teaching work at a Federal Institute of Education (IF), based on the policy for the implementation of the Federal Network for Scientific and Technological Vocational Education (Law No. 11.892/2008), which provides for verticalised teaching at IFs. Within the scope of the research, priority was given to issues relating to the meaning(s) attributed by teachers to the new forms imposed by the regulation of verticalised teaching, considering what these effectively entail for teaching work and, in particular, the way in which teachers implement this policy at the IF. Of a qualitative nature, the research draws its main data from (auto)biographical narratives of eight lecturers at the institution under investigation (IF-I) who joined and have been working there since the implementation of the RFEPCT in 2008. The analysis process was based on content analysis, comprising the following phases: 1) pre-analysis; 2) exploration of the material and data processing; 3) inference and interpretation. In the analysis of the interpretation and translation of the teachers’ narratives regarding the meaning(s) attributed to the teaching role they perform at the institution under investigation, a “performativity” was noted, established in the “implementation of policy”, in the face of the verticalised teaching system established by law under the RFEPCT. In this way, ‘politics in action’ is constructed and (re)constructed, focusing on how individuals ‘make’ politics through their actual teaching practice – that is, through the ‘implementation of policy’ – giving rise to what the research refers to as the process of verticalisation of teaching work at IF-I, since it is observed that teaching precedes and brings about verticalised teaching at the IF; therefore, the implementation of policy by teachers promotes the verticalisation of teaching at IF-I.
This study explores educational assessment ideas and methods, drawing on the perspectives of students in the Pedagogy program at a public higher education institution in the Federal District, specifically those taking a mandatory 60-hour learning assessment course in the second semester of 2024. We intend to understand whether the training provides a theoretical and practical groundwork for developing critical awareness regarding evaluation. This qualitative study used an electronic questionnaire on Google Forms to collect data. Content Analysis (Bardin, 2020) was employed to read and organize the data, which yielded two distinct categories: theoretical-practical coherence in teacher training, and contributions of training in school evaluation to the practice of teaching – perceptions of undergraduate students. The findings reveal that within this discipline: essential concepts for future teachers to evaluate in basic education are addressed; there is formative potential and conception and conduction through the theory-practice unity; students gain experience of formative processes in a content-form relationship; the teacher's performance is relevant for the identification of undergraduate students with teaching; the need to overcome the hegemony of classificatory evaluation and the pedagogy of failure is favored; the opportunity is provided to recognize that in the researched discipline teachers use formative assessment methods. Keywords: Assessment. Teacher Training. Teacher. Education.
This article presents a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) aimed at analyzing the contributions of formative assessment to the development of teaching practice in Mathematics education, focusing on identifying strategies, approaches, and methodologies associated with reflective, collaborative, and diverse assessment practices. The study followed a protocol based on Kitchenham (2004), with explicit criteria for inclusion, exclusion, extraction, and methodological quality assessment, complemented by a meta-analysis based on the frequency of positive and negative implications qualitatively extracted from the studies. Searches in scientific databases initially yielded 266 records, from which 14 studies fully met the defined criteria and were analyzed in depth. The results demonstrate that formative assessment has been associated with improvements in monitoring of learning, the pedagogical use of feedback, and teacher reflection. However, challenges persist regarding initial and continuing teacher education and the operationalization of this approach in daily school routines. The analysis also reveals gaps in the articulation between formative assessment and teaching practice, indicating the need for investigations that deepen the understanding of its impacts in different educational contexts. In this sense, the article contributes to the field of Mathematics Education by systematizing empirical and theoretical evidence that can support both pedagogical decision-making and the formulation of teacher education policies, reinforcing the role of formative assessment as a structuring axis of more reflective and learning-oriented educational practices.
The present article aims to analyze the disconnection between education and health in the Physical Activity Guide for the Brazilian Population. It is a documentary study developed within the scope of stricto sensu postgraduate education, grounded in a Foucauldian inspired discourse analysis. Supported by a Foucauldian Baumanian theoretical framework, we identify in the Guide a discourse centered on self care, sustained by the logic of self improvement and by the pursuit of a more physically active life. Through recommendations that emphasize the benefits of a lifestyle considered healthy, the document expresses a biopolitical orientation aimed at modifying behaviors, shifting to individuals the responsibility for managing their own health and, consequently, relieving the State of this obligation. Reflections on this discourse reveal tensions and disconnections between the fields of health and education, showing how public policies can both reinforce mechanisms of normalization and open spaces for practices of resistance. In this sense, we propose alternative uses and readings of the Guide, with the Physical Education teacher assuming the role of a critical mediator. Such a stance involves reinventing, resignifying and reinterpreting the document in a critical, reflective and pedagogical manner, problematizing the social contradictions that permeate access to physical activity and fostering the education of citizens capable of constructing other collective and supportive ways of moving.
We analyze the triad: mathematics - decoloniality - and complexity, and answer questions such as: what place do they occupy today in educational institutions? We do all of this with complex decolonial transmethodologies in which the prefix trans, which means beyond, has its basis in Enrique Dussel, who will rescue the hidden of modernity-postmodernity-coloniality. In the complex transparadigm and rhizomatic deconstruction, we go through deconstruction and reconstruction in a risky process full of love for the science and legacy-art of humanity: Mathematics. In the reconstruction, we present delicate Athenian d why the triad: mathematics - decoloniality - complexity does not occupy urgent positions in educational institutions today to contribute to the reform of thought. We promote this concordance by returning to the unprecedented complexity of mathematics, and we ask ourselves: How are students' metacognitive processes being elevated with the teaching of mathematics? How can dialectical dialogical dialogues be built into students' conceptualizations if we do not understand how they learn? Dialectical dialogical dialogue can be promoted by enjoying dialogue and elevating thought toward hidden stages of knowing.
This article emerges from shared concerns developed through dialogues and academic encounters, in journeys across Brazil and Latin America, revealing questions that go beyond the individual dimension and traverse researchers who are beginning their paths in narrative research and its derivations. After all, what are the epistemic foundations that sustain narrative research and help us understand narrative as a method that subverts traditional scientific thinking? Based on this question, and grounded in a review of key scholarly works, this text discusses advances and contributions of educational research that understand narrative as an art of thinking and position the researcher as a practitioner-reflective narrator of lived and felt experiences.
