Psychological problems are often faced by families when a member is hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). One of the most psychological problems often found in family members is psychological distress. An intervention applied to relief this problem is family treatment. This study aimed to identify family treatment strategies to reduce distress among family members of palliative patients in ICU.An experimental research approach with one group pre-test post-test 15 family members of intensive care unit (ICU) patients were selected. Samples were collected using purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. The respondent received family treatment which focus on family involvement, education and communication in addition to standard treatment. Distress Thermometer were used to measure study parameters. Data was analyzed using Wilcoxon test. The statistic test showed that majority of respondents were women (93.3%) in the early adult age (26-35 years old) (33.3%), working (53.3%) then having a relationship with patients as nuclear family (73.3%). Most respondents reported sleep problems (60%), anxiety (80%), depression (53.3%), grief and loss (53.3%), and fear (53.3%). Family’s treatment strategies were highly effective (p<0.001) in reducing distress in family member of palliative patients. The family’s treatment strategies were proven to be effective in reducing distress among family of palliative’s patients in ICU. Study recommends the use of family’s treatment strategies packages a means of strategies to reduce family’s distress during their companion in ICU.
Addressing the spiritual needs of critically ill Muslim patients is crucial to prevent spiritual distress that may occur during their treatment. Tailored interventions aligned with their beliefs can significantly alleviate spiritual distress, but there is a lack of comprehensive research in this area. This review study aimed to identify existing literature on the methods tailored to address spiritual needs for Muslim patients with critical illness who are hospitalized in critical care units according to Islamic principles and practices. This scoping review is based on the PRISMA ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews) checklist. Five electronic databases were searched: COCHRANE, ProQuest, Scopus, CINAHL, and PubMed. The keywords are used for searching, including “Islamic-based intervention” AND “spiritual nursing care” AND “Muslim patients with critical illness”. The ten included articles were analysed and appraised following the protocol of The Joanna Briggs Institute. The results revealed that the selected studies employed various methodologies, including both qualitative and quantitative studies. The review synthesized detailed descriptions of Islamic-based spiritual nursing care in critical units and categorized them into five methods: 1) prayer facilitation, 2) environmental accommodation, 3) spiritual counselling, 4) respect for Islamic practices, and 5) use of Islamic phrases. The methods outlined for delivering Islamic-based interventions provide crucial guidance on how to address the religious and cultural requirements of Muslim patients during their challenging circumstances.
Aging is commonly associated with progressive decline in musculoskeletal function, which leads to reduced physical mobility and significantly increases the risk of falls among the elderly. Therefore, effective interventions are needed to improve balance and mobility to prevent falls and maintain functional independence in this population. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of balance training on increasing physical mobility and reducing the risk of falls. This type of research is a pre-experimental study without a control group. The population in this study was 78 people, the sample in this study was 30 respondents who were selected using purposive sampling techniques based on inclusion and exclusion characteristics. The instruments used were the Elderly Mobility Scale and the Timed Up and Go Test which had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis used descriptive statistical tests and the Wilcoxon test. The intervention in this study was balance training, which was performed three times a week. The study found that 66.7% of respondents in the pre-test needed assistance, and 60% of respondents were in the moderate risk of falling. The post-test results showed that all respondents were in the moderate risk of falling (63.3%). The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference before and after the intervention with a p-value of 0.02 (p < 0.05). Balance exercise effectively improves physical mobility and reduces fall risk among elderly nursing home residents. Future studies should apply longer and more intensive interventions with larger samples and control groups to strengthen effectiveness comparisons.
Postpartum blues is a common mood disorder experienced by mothers after childbirth and has a high prevalence in Indonesia, potentially affecting the well-being of both the mother and the infant. Although numerous studies have explored postpartum blues, research specifically examining postpartum maternal fatigue remains limited. This study aimed to identify the relationship between fatigue and sleep quality with the incidence of postpartum blues among postpartum mothers. A cross-sectional study design was employed, involving 120 respondents selected using a non-probability sampling method. The study was conducted at the Kalideres Sub-district Health Center, a primary health care facility located in the Kalideres sub-district, West Jakarta, Indonesia. Data were collected using standardized and validated instruments, namely the Postpartum Fatigue Scale (PFS) to assess fatigue, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to measure sleep quality, and Stein’s Maternity Blues Scale (MBS) to evaluate the incidence of postpartum blues. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate statistical tests. The results showed that 71.7% of respondents experienced high fatigue, 69.2% had poor sleep quality, and 76.7% exhibited symptoms of postpartum blues. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant association between fatigue and the incidence of postpartum blues (p < 0.001), as well as between sleep quality and postpartum blues (p < 0.001). This study concludes that high fatigue and poor sleep quality are significantly associated with the incidence of postpartum blues. Therefore, education and supportive interventions for postpartum mothers are recommended to help manage fatigue and improve sleep quality, with active involvement from families and health professionals to prevent postpartum blues.
Medication administration errors remain a patient safety issue in clinical practice, including among nursing professional students. This study aimed to identify factors associated with the implementation of the seven rights of medication administration among nursing professional students at Universitas Andalas. This quantitative study used a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach and involved 114 nursing professional students. Data were collected using questionnaires that measured knowledge, attitudes, motivation, and the implementation of the seven rights of medication administration. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses, including Pearson Product-Moment correlation and multiple linear regression tests. The results showed that students’ knowledge and motivation were high, attitudes were good, and the implementation of the seven rights of medication administration was also categorized as good. Bivariate analysis indicated that knowledge, attitude, and motivation were significantly associated with the implementation of the seven rights of medication administration (p < 0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that attitude was the most strongly associated variable. These findings highlight the need to strengthen patient safety attitudes through clinical learning strategies such as case studies and simulations, to improve students’ self-awareness, and to develop attitude-based interventional research to enhance the implementation of the seven rights of medication administration.
