Creative Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) often face operational and administrative constraints that impede their market survival. Redchic Accessories, a small business specializing in fashion accessories, experienced operational inefficiencies, irregular bookkeeping, and traditional marketing bottlenecks. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a university-led capacity-building program in improving business management, financial accountability, operational efficiency, and digital marketing of Redchic Accessories. Utilizing a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach across sequential planning, action, and reflection cycles, the team engaged the business owner and 3 key employees over a 4-month intervention period. The framework focused on instituting standardized operating procedures (SOPs), deploying digital bookkeeping ledger spreadsheets, and optimizing online storefront architectures. Quantitative operational monitoring revealed that the intervention minimized production cycle delays from a baseline of 4 days down to 1.5 days, reduced raw material wastage by 28%, achieved a 100% monthly financial recording completion rate, and drove an 18.5% growth in marketplace traffic. In conclusion, the participatory intervention substantially improved managerial practices and established a stronger foundation for sustainable business development.
The transformation of State Vocational High Schools (SMK Negeri) into Regional Public Service Agencies (BLUD) in West Sumatra Province provides institutional flexibility to commercialize student-led products and services. However, most SMKN BLUD units experience critical limitations in market positioning, commercial branding, and structured distribution channels, which leads to suboptimal revenue generation. This community service project aims to resolve these commercial barriers by delivering integrated business analysis and strategic marketing intervention through a provincial sharing session and adaptive mentoring framework. Utilizing a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach across three structured cycles, the program engaged 43 SMKN school principals across West Sumatra in highly collaborative strategy formulations. The training focused on transitioning schools from conventional educational output mindsets toward professional market-driven orientation using corporate segmentation, targeting, positioning (STP), and the digital marketing mix. Quantitative evaluation via pre- and post-test instruments indicated a substantial 34.8% increase in participants' strategic comprehension (from a mean score of 62.1 to 83.7). Furthermore, the intervention successfully generated 43 preliminary digital marketing roadmaps and achieved a 92% participant satisfaction rate. In conclusion, embedding adaptive marketing strategies into vocational public service models effectively bridges the gap between educational innovation and market demand, creating a sustainable foundation for vocational financial independence.
Adolescent mental health problems require early identification and school-based follow-up. This community service program aimed to map self-reported symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress and to deliver mental health education and Youth Mental Health Cadre orientation at SMK N 1 Lembah Gumanti. On May 28, 2025, 225 eleventh-grade students completed the Indonesian Depression Anxiety Stress Scales for Youth (IDASS-Y) and participated in face-to-face education, coping-skill demonstrations, and peer-support orientation. Screening data were analyzed descriptively. Symptoms above the normal category were identified for anxiety in 90 students (40.0%), depression in 56 (24.9%), and stress in 51 (22.7%). Moderate-to-extremely-severe categories were recorded in 54 students (24.0%) for anxiety, 34 (15.1%) for depression, and 28 (12.4%) for stress. The program delivered education and clarified cadres’ roles as peer educators and referral connectors. However, no pre-post assessment measured changes in literacy, stigma, behavior, or cadre competence. The findings support confidential follow-up for students with elevated scores, supervised peer support, and a formal referral pathway linking the school with primary care and mental health professionals. Future programs should include pre-post and follow-up evaluation.
Good financial management is a crucial factor in supporting the sustainability of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). However, many MSMEs still face challenges in maintaining systematic bookkeeping, particularly in the textile industry. This Community Service activity aims to improve MSMEs' financial and digital literacy through training and mentoring in the use of the Sistem Informasi Aplikasi Pencatatan Informasi Keuangan (SIAPIK). The activity was held in Padang City and involved 10 MSME participants. The activity's implementation method included preparation, outreach, hands-on training, mentoring, and monitoring and evaluation. The results showed that 90% of participants successfully adopted the SIAPIK application, 80% were able to record transactions consistently, and produce simple financial reports. Furthermore, participants exhibited a substantial improvement in their understanding following the training, as evidenced by the marked increase in average pre- and post-test scores. This activity has proven effective in improving MSMEs' digital financial management skills. However, challenges remain in consistent application use, influenced by digital literacy levels and manual record-keeping habits. Therefore, ongoing support is needed to ensure that the implementation of the SIAPIK application can run optimally and sustainably.
Padang frequently experiences flash and regular floods, resulting in material losses and casualties. Batu Busuk, due to its geographical characteristics, is highly prone to flash floods, making community preparedness essential for disaster risk reduction. To strengthen mitigation efforts, a focused group discussion (FGD) was conducted on 15 September 2023 with nine community leaders. The discussion generated three themes: the impact of the January 23, 2023 flash flood, challenges in previous disaster management, and future plans for flood mitigation. The FGD highlighted the need to increase community awareness, enhance emergency response skills, and provide adequate evacuation routes and facilities. As a follow-up, disaster mitigation education was delivered to 40 households through sessions at the local mushala and door-to-door visits, aiming to improve residents’ knowledge and preparedness. The study recommends empowering community leaders to implement disaster management plans, expanding mitigation education, facilitating structural measures, developing early warning systems, and conducting evacuation and first aid training for flash flood victims.
Stunting remains a serious public health issue in Indonesia, particularly among children under five years of age. One of the main causes of stunting is the lack of understanding and practice of balanced nutrition, especially among pregnant women and mothers with toddlers. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge of pregnant women regarding balanced nutrition as an effort to prevent stunting. The implementation stages include preparation, execution, and monitoring and evaluation. The community service activity was carried out on August 27, 2025, in the working area of Bungus Health Center, Padang. The participants in the community service were 10 pregnant women. The activity lasted for 120 minutes, including a pre-test on pregnant women's knowledge of nutrition and pregnancy, blood sugar and hemoglobin tests to identify pregnancy complications, providing education on nutrition during pregnancy, and a post-test. The mean knowledge score increased from 7.10 before the intervention to 8.70 after the intervention. Statistical analysis using a paired t-test showed a significant improvement in knowledge (p = 0.005). These results indicate the need for periodic health education for pregnant women during antenatal visits, especially regarding pregnancy care related to meeting nutritional needs during pregnancy.
This community service program aims to strengthen the resilience of coastal communities in Purus Village, Padang City, a high-risk tsunami red zone, by implementing the UNESCO-IOC Tsunami Ready Community indicators. Padang City produces over 660 tons of waste each day, and more than 60% of it is organic. Most of this ends up at the Air Dingin landfill, which has long exceeded its capacity and still operates through open dumping. While Black Soldier Fly (BSF; Hermetia illucens) larvae have attracted growing research attention as an organic waste processor, studies combining BSF bioconversion with biodrying (TOSS) and digital market development within a single community-scale program are scarce. This study reports the implementation and evaluation of such an integrated program, carried out with the Smarkgood Farmer Group in Kota Padang. Working through a participatory action framework, the team executed five sequential stages: partner identification, knowledge dissemination, technical training, technology application, and field mentoring. Key interventions included constructing BSF biopond units, providing a waste shredder calibrated to optimal larval substrate size, introducing the TOSS biodrying method for residual organic material, building a waste supply partnership with the Padang BSF Maggot Association (Agodang), and guiding the group through e-commerce onboarding. Following these interventions, the group operated a more functional and productive facility, maintained a stable organic waste supply, and actively sold products through online platforms. This program illustrates how science-based bioconversion technology, waste valorization, and digital market access can be combined into a community model that is practically transferable to other urban settings facing similar waste pressures.
This community service activity aims to enhance the capacity of beekeepers in colony management and methods for propagating galo-galo bee colonies within the Bangun Sejahtera Indonesia (BSI) honey bee cultivation group. The background to this activity is the high rate of extinction of partner galo-galo colonies. The high rate of colony collapse has a significant impact on the economy of beekeepers, a decline in their honey production, as well as ecological consequences in the surrounding area, including a decline in pollinators. The activity was carried out through training, which began with an information session on factors that support colony survival, such as sufficient plant vegetation, anticipation of predator attacks, and optimal colony maintenance management. The main achievement of this activity was that approximately 60% of the ten trap boxes installed during training were successfully colonized by new galo-galo colonies within four weeks. This result demonstrates that the training improved beekeepers’ knowledge and skills in caring for colonies and installing trap boxes, which directly increased the number of colonies owned by beekeepers. Additionally, the success of colony acquisition through trap boxes can reduce the felling of trees where galo-galo nest in the wild, one tree for one colony.
Family Medicinal Plants (Tanaman Obat Keluarga/TOGA) have considerable potential to support promotive and preventive family health. However, limited community knowledge regarding their benefits, proper utilization, and safety often hinders optimal use at the household level. This community service activity aimed to provide education on the utilization of TOGA to support family health. A community-based educational program with a one-group pre-test and post-test design was conducted in Rawang Subdistrict on 17 August 2024, involving 30 participants. Educational sessions were delivered through interactive lectures and discussions covering the benefits, methods of use, and safety aspects of TOGA. Participants’ knowledge was assessed using a structured questionnaire administered before and after the intervention, and data were analyzed descriptively. The pre-test results indicated moderate to low baseline knowledge. Following the intervention, participants’ knowledge improved significantly, with mean scores increasing from 56.3% to 82.1% (an increase of 25.8 percentage points). The greatest improvements were observed in understanding preparation methods and safety considerations. These findings demonstrate that TOGA-based education effectively enhances community knowledge in supporting promotive and preventive family health. Integrating such educational programs into community health initiatives is essential to strengthen family-level health promotion and disease prevention.
Stunting is a critical public health issue in Indonesia. Despite various nutrition programs, the utilization of nutritious local foods, such as Moringa oleifera leaves, has not been maximized due to limited public awareness and inadequate education. This activity aims to increase public knowledge of the nutritional content and benefits of Moringa leaves for preventing stunting, and to provide training in processing Moringa into healthy foods. Methods: The activity was conducted on October 4, 2025, in Gantiang Village, Padang Panjang City. The target group comprised housewives, health care workers, and caregivers of toddlers. Data were collected through pre- and post-tests, as well as surveys of participant satisfaction and interest. Results: Following the educational and processing demonstration, participants' knowledge increased significantly; the program was deemed highly beneficial, and most expressed interest in incorporating Moringa leaf preparations into their family menus. Conclusion: Education and training in Moringa leaf processing have been effective in increasing public knowledge and interest in using Moringa as a nutritious food, thereby potentially supporting efforts to prevent stunting. For sustainability, it is recommended that this program be integrated into integrated health posts (Posyandu) and that further training be conducted to ensure that Moringa leaf consumption becomes a regular part of family eating habits.
Hospitals are not systematically designed to detect service errors as in non-healthcare products, thus increasing risks to patient safety. RSUD Sadikin in Pariaman City, which has been operating for only seven years, has not yet established mechanisms or training to detect service errors. This community service activity aimed to enhance managerial competence in managing the risk of healthcare service errors through the application of Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA). The activity was conducted in the form of a workshop involving 30 participants from top, middle, and lower management levels in Oktober-November 2025 at Sadikin Hospital. FMEA competence was assessed before and after the workshop using a paired t-test. The results showed that the mean pre-test score was 70.67 (SD±17.604) and the post-test score was 84.67 (SD±14.794), with an improvement of 14.00 points (SD±14.004), which was statistically significant (p=0.000). These findings indicate that the FMEA workshop effectively improved participants’ managerial competence in early detection and mitigation of service risks. Follow-up mentoring is recommended to evaluate the sustainability of training effects at 3, 6, and 9 months after the activity.
This community engagement program aimed to strengthen household food security and improve the technical capacity of the Nuhairun Women Farmers Group (WFG), locally known as Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) Nuhairun, in Patalangan Village, West Sumatra, through integrated dairy goat and stingless bee farming based on dual-purpose forage plants. The group consisted of 10 active female members who had prior experience in small-scale livestock and stingless bee cultivation, but their management practices remained traditional and less productive. The program focused on improving dairy goat management, stingless bee colony maintenance, hygienic honey harvesting, and the cultivation of dual-purpose forage plants, particularly Calliandra calothyrsus and Clitoria ternatea, which function as both goat feed and nectar sources for the bees. Infrastructure support included improved goat housing, additional hives, and forage planting. Training on farm management and the Business Model Canvas (BMC) was also provided to support product development and household agribusinesses. The program improved members’ technical skills, enhanced production consistency, and improved access to nutritious food at the household level. This integrated farming model has strong potential to support sustainable rural food systems and strengthen women’s participation in community-based agribusinesses.
Training in social media and financial literacy is crucial for enhancing the capabilities of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), especially traditional craft businesses like Sulaman and Silver Cici Koto Gadang MSME. The objective of this study is to examine the impact of these training programs on attitude formation, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control, as outlined by the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Through a qualitative approach involving participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and pre- and post-tests, the study reveals significant improvements in participants' ability to manage digital marketing and understand financial risks, particularly concerning illegal online loans. The results suggest that positive attitudes toward social media as a strategic marketing tool are emerging, along with a deeper understanding of financial management and the identification of illegal lending practices. Stronger perceived behavioral control, as demonstrated by increased post-test scores, encourages MSMEs to adopt safer financial practices and sustain digital marketing efforts. Overall, this study confirms that integrated interventions are effective. These interventions combine digital skills training and financial literacy. They effectively strengthen MSME resilience and competitiveness in the digital economy.
The increasing complexity of criminal cases in West Java necessitates a critical upgrade in the competency of Indonesian National Police (Polri) investigators regarding the application of Scientific Crime Investigation (SCI) principles. A significant gap has been identified in the integrated forensic evidence handling skills (digital, biological, and chemical) at the Sub-Regional Police Resort (Polres) level, potentially compromising the accountability of criminal proceedings. This training program aimed to enhance the capacity of 40 investigators from the Jabar region through a comprehensive, integrated forensic training course. The 5-day program (September 15-19, 2025) was conducted in collaboration with the National Police's Forensic Laboratory Center (Puslabfor Bareskrim Polri), utilizing a Pretest-Posttest design and a hands-on simulation methodology. Evaluation results demonstrated an average competency score increase of 48.57% (from 55.8 to 82.9), significantly exceeding the minimum target of 25%. The most drastic improvement was observed in the Digital Forensics module (79.57%). Practically, 92.5% of participants showed enhanced technical proficiency in applying the integrated Chain of Custody (CoC) protocol. The participant satisfaction level reached 94% (4.7 out of 5.0). This training proved highly effective in bridging the competency gap, strengthening science-based investigative administration, and supporting the establishment of an accountable criminal justice system. The adoption of technical guidelines and the implementation of a sustained program are recommended for follow-up.
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is characterized by increased blood pressure, which is often the only symptom of essential hypertension. Hypertension is often referred to as “the silent killer” because it is often asymptomatic, so sufferers are unaware that they have hypertension until they develop complications from it. The management of hypertension does not only depend on medical treatment but is greatly influenced by lifestyle and social environment, particularly the role of the family. The role of the family is crucial in controlling hypertension because lifestyle factors begin at home and the family has direct control over the food consumed, rest time, and encouragement to exercise. Compliance with medication and routine check-ups require family involvement, and the presence of family is very important in providing peace of mind, encouragement, and a better quality of life. Based on interview results and data from the Alai Community Health Center, the prevalence of hypertension has increased from the previous year. From field observations and interviews with Posyandu cadres and community leaders, it is known that the level of public awareness regarding the importance of hypertension prevention and management is still relatively low. In addition, the role of families in supporting family members suffering from hypertension is still not optimal. Families have not played an active role in monitoring diet, physical activity, and reminding family members to take their medication or visit health facilities. Therefore, it is important to provide education on Community Health Assistance in Controlling Hypertension Through Family Empowerment. The activity was conducted on August 3, 2025, by first conducting a pretest to determine the community's understanding before the intervention was given, followed by a health check-up, education, and a posttest at the end of the session. The results obtained were that the community's knowledge before education was 60% and after education was 100%. This increase was due to the community's enthusiasm in participating in the education program. The recommendation for health centers is to routinely monitor and evaluate the results of this education program.
According to a 2019 survey by United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), bullying occurs in children worldwide. Globally, more than 30 percent of students aged 13 to 15 regularly experience bullying. Bullying can cause anxiety and fear in adolescents, disrupt concentration in school, and encourage them to avoid the school environment. Bullying problems that occur in schools require preventive intervention. The goal is to prevent this bullying practice from continuing or escalating into more extreme actions. Interventions in the form of education and training are an initial effort to convey a message to adolescents, individuals, or groups about the dangers of bullying. Community service activities at Muhammadiyah 5 Junior High School in Padang City aimed to increase adolescents' knowledge of bullying prevention. The implementation consisted of four stages: problem analysis, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of activities. The average pretest knowledge level increased from 58.47 to 84.02 (posttest) after the education was provided to 72 students. This activity has been proven to increase students' and the school community's insight and understanding of bullying. For the program's sustainability, it is hoped that the school will be involved and committed to regular bullying eradication activities. A sustainable program will increase anti-bullying awareness in schools.
