Anemia and Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women can increase the risk of cesarean delivery, postpartum anemia, postpartum depression, and postpartum hemorrhage, which can lead to maternal mortality. These conditions also raise the likelihood of low birth weight babies (<2500 grams), short stature (<48 cm), premature birth, infants born with anemia, fetal death, and ultimately contribute to a higher risk of childhood stunting. Stunting can be prevented by optimizing child growth during the first 1,000 days of life through adequate iron and nutrient intake. In 2022, the coverage of iron tablet distribution was 81.3% in North Sumatra, 62.98% in North Tapanuli Regency, and 63.00% in Siborong-borong 1 Village. Despite these efforts, only 53.4% of pregnant women actually consumed the iron tablets as recommended, leading to persistent rates of anemia. This highlights the need for both intensified screening and increased awareness among pregnant women regarding anemia. Furthermore, to improve adherence to iron supplementation, additional support for mothers is essential. Siborong-borong 1 Village, located in Siborong-borong District, North Tapanuli Regency, is recognized as a local food-producing area with diverse products, such as sweet potatoes and tilapia, which can be leveraged to enhance the nutritional status of pregnant women. To support the government’s program in addressing anemia and Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED), an integrated solution called SAVED (Strategic Action to Prevent Anemia and Chronic Energy Deficiency) is proposed. This program includes screening, counseling, socialization of local food processing, and the establishment of support cadres to assist pregnant women with anemia and CED in Siborong-borong 1 Village. The targeted outcomes are increased knowledge and skills among pregnant women in preventing anemia and CED, as well as the formation of dedicated support cadres.
