
Objective: As the growing use of artificial intelligence in healthcare creates both new opportunities and emerging concerns for nursing practice, this study aimed to examine nursing students’ attitudes toward artificial intelligence and to explore the extent to which AI-related anxiety and technological dependency predict these attitudes.Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional, and correlational design was employed with a sample of 373 nursing students studying at a public university in Türkiye. The data were collected using three instruments: the General Attitudes Toward Artificial Intelligence Scale, the Artificial Intelligence Anxiety Scale, and the Artificial Intelligence Dependency Scale. The statistical analyses encompassed a range of methodologies, including descriptive measures, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression models.Results: The mean score for the General Attitudes toward Artificial Intelligence Scale Positive Attitudes subscale was 42.17 ± 8.71, while the mean score for the Negative Attitudes subscale was 24.44 ± 6.69. The mean total scores for the Artificial Intelligence Anxiety Scale and the Dependence on Artificial Intelligence Scale were 73.57 ± 25.54 and 12.39 ± 4.28, respectively. Multiple regression analyses revealed that AI-related anxiety and dependency significantly predicted positive attitude scores (R² = 0.060, F = 11.722, p < 0.001) and negative attitude scores (R² = 0.349, F = 98.985, p < 0.001).Conclusions: The findings underscore the notion that nursing students’ perceptions of artificial intelligence are shaped by a complex interplay of emotional, cognitive, and behavioral factors. In accordance with a holistic nursing framework, incorporating artificial intelligence into education should extend beyond the acquisition of technical skills to encompass the maintenance of core care values, such as empathy, ethical awareness, and effective communication. Educational approaches that encourage critical engagement with technology and its balanced use may facilitate the ethical and efficient integration of artificial intelligence into nursing practice.
Objective: This study aims to examine students’ perspectives on individuals with mental disorders and psychiatric nursing before and after the psychiatric nursing clinical course, as well as their thoughts and experiences regarding the clinical practice, using a qualitative approach.Methods: A qualitative research method was employed in this study, and data were collected through focus group interviews. In this study, three separate focus group interviews were conducted, each consisting of 10 participants. The data from the focus group interviews were subjected to thematic analysis to identify key themes and patterns.Results: Four themes were identified: perceptions regarding mental disorders; judgments about clinical practice (related to the clinical environment, patients, and students’ own competencies); willingness to become a psychiatric nurse; and levels of anxiety associated with clinical practice.Conclusions: At the end of the clinical practice, students’ negative perceptions of mental illnesses decreased. The psychiatric nursing course presents an opportunity for students to recognize and transform their negative attitudes toward mental disorders.
Objective: This study aimed to examine patients’ satisfaction with nursing services during eye surgery and the factors affecting satisfaction.Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study included 320 patients aged 18 years and older who underwent eye surgery at a teaching and research hospital and were hospitalized for at least 1 night. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using a Demographic Information Form and the Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Care Scale. Statistical significance criteria were consistently applied at a level of p < 0.05.Results: The mean converted total satisfaction score was 80.64 ± 13.74. Age, gender, educational status, marital status, and length of hospital stay did not have a statistically significant effect on satisfaction (p > 0.05). However, satisfaction levels were significantly higher among patients who underwent blepharoplasty (84.14 ± 10.87) compared to those who underwent other procedures, including dacryocystorhinostomy, vitrectomy, and pterygium surgery (77.13 ± 14.18) (p = 0.011).Conclusions: Patients undergoing eye surgery generally report high satisfaction with nursing care. Nevertheless, differences in satisfaction by surgery type highlight the importance of individualized, patient-centered nursing care.
Cirrhosis, the final stage of hepatic diseases, affects over 112 million people worldwide, leading to issues such as varices, ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, and sarcopenia, which impacts 30% to 70% of cirrhotic patients. While sarcopenia is linked to poor outcomes, its prognostic effect remains unclear. Management strategies include medication, exercise, and nutritional support, but there is a lack of research on exercise programs targeting sarcopenia in cirrhosis. Patients often lack knowledge regarding the management of their condition, especially concerning exercise, nutrition, and treatment side effects. Issues like food insecurity and poor cooking skills can result in inadequate dietary intake. The disease induces sarcopenia through altered metabolism, causing an energy intake and need imbalance. Efforts to manage sarcopenia in cirrhosis patients focus on a three-level prevention framework: primary prevention through screening, secondary prevention by initiating therapy, and tertiary prevention by intensifying treatment for non-responders. Multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including sports, nursing and nutrition, enhance outcomes by utilizing resistance training to improve muscle mass and strength and aerobic exercise to boost aerobic capacity and cardiorespiratory fitness.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a structured neonatal vascular access and intravenous infusion training program on the knowledge of nursing students.Methods: A prospective, quasi-experimental pretest-posttest study with a single-group design was conducted. The sample of the study consisted of 71 third- and fourth-year undergraduate nursing students who had completed Pediatric Nursing and/or Neonatal Nursing courses at Istanbul Bilgi University. Data were collected using a 48-item questionnaire developed to assess knowledge related to neonatal vascular access and intravenous infusion practices. The educational intervention comprised 4 hours of theoretical instruction and 1 hour of practical training delivered by educators from the Neonatal Nursing Association. The questionnaire was administered before and after the training. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26.0. Ethical approval was obtained from the Istanbul Bilgi University Ethics Committee, and written informed consent was obtained from all participants.Results: No statistically significant difference was observed between pretest and posttest scores for overall knowledge related to vascular access (p > 0.05). In contrast, posttest scores for catheter insertion, care, and management showed a statistically significant increase compared to pretest scores (p < 0.05), indicating improvement in knowledge related to these procedures.Conclusions: The findings suggest that structured training is effective in improving nursing students’ knowledge of neonatal vascular access, particularly in areas related to catheter insertion, care, and management.
Objective: This study aimed to determine the professional readiness levels of final-year nursing students and their perceptions of the basic nursing skills they believe they have acquired during clinical practice.Methods: This descriptive study was conducted in the 2022–2023 academic year at the faculty of nursing of a state university. The population consisted of 170 students, and the sample included 125 who agreed to participate. Data were collected using the Descriptive Information Form, the Nursing Professional Readiness Perception Scale, and the 152-item Basic Nursing Skills Assessment Form based on the National Core Education Program in Nursing (HUÇEP). Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 through descriptive statistics and the Mann–Whitney U test with a significance level of p < 0.05.Results: The students’ mean total readiness score was 4.19±0.48, indicating a high level of readiness. Scores were significantly higher among students who willingly chose nursing (p=.040), felt ready to begin their careers (p =.002), and graduated from vocational health high schools (p=.011). The most frequently acquired skills were vital sign measurement, ECG recording and medication administration, while the least acquired skills were condom catheter application, Leopold’s maneuver and terminal care.Conclusions: Students demonstrated high professional readiness and basic clinical skill acquisition. Long-term, structured training programs are recommended.
The rate of caesarean section births has been steadily increasing in Türkiye and worldwide. Women may experience various issues after caesarean section. Pharmacologic, complementary, and supportive methods may be used to address these issues following caesarean section. No review in the literature has been found that investigates the effects of complementary and supportive methods used after caesarean section. The purpose of this review is to examine the effect of complementary and supportive methods that can be used after caesarean section. This review includes experimental studies conducted between 2013 and 2022 that evaluated the effectiveness of complementary and supportive methods after caesarean section and for which full texts in English and Turkish were accessible. A review of the literature on the subject showed that complementary and supportive methods such as acupuncture, acupressure, massage, reflexology, reiki, aromatherapy, music, heat therapy, and kangaroo care were used to prevent and manage issues encountered after caesarean section. The studies included in the review evaluated the effects of these methods on pain, nausea, vomiting, anxiety, postpartum depression, fatigue, trouble sleeping, breastfeeding, and postpartum comfort parameters after caesarean section. Complementary and supportive methods may be effective in preventing and managing issues that may arise after caesarean section. Therefore, it may be recommended that midwives and nurses include complementary and supportive methods in their post-caesarean care.
Objective: This study aims to investigate how attitudes about menopause affect somatization symptoms and quality of life.Methods: In this descriptive study, the Sociodemographic Information Form, Attitude Scale Towards Menopause, Somatization Scale, and Menopause-Specific Quality of Life Scale were administered face-to-face to 232 menopausal women between 01.12.2022 and 01.03.2023. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Independent Sample t-Test, the Mann-Whitney U test, and correlation.Results: Of the participants, 43.1% were aged 50–59, and 80.2% were postmenopausal. Menopause occurred between the ages of 45-49 in 38.8% and occurred naturally in 69.8%. A significant negative and low-level correlation was found between MITÖ and somatization scores, as well as between attitudes toward menopause and menopause-specific quality of life (p < 0.05).Conclusions: Adopting a negative attitude toward menopause can exacerbate somatization symptoms and reduce quality of life. To improve the quality of life of menopausal women, it is recommended that somatization symptoms be assessed alongside menopausal symptoms.
Objective: This study was done to determine the effect of telenursing education on LDL levels of patients with coronary heart disease.Methods: The study is a quasi-experimental, non-randomized study.Results: 52 patients with coronary artery disease and high LDL-C levels who applied to the cardiology outpatient clinic of a university hospital were included in the study. Patients in the experimental group were first given an education brochure. The telenurse training lasted 3 months, with patients contacting them by phone (average duration 10 minutes) or via WhatsApp twice a week, depending on their availability. LDL-C levels of the patients in the intervention and control groups were measured before and three months after the training. The initial LDL measurement in the control group was 128.09 and the final LDL value was 136.57. While the initial LDL level of the experimental group was 155.32, the final value was 120.31. The final LDL measurement showed a decrease in LDL levels in the intervention group, while the control group showed an increase.Conclusions: Telenursing education was effective in reducing LDL-C levels in patients in the intervention group.
Objective: This study was conducted to determine the effect of perceived social support on loneliness and hopelessness in older individuals.Methods: This descriptive study was conducted between November 2017 and April 2018 at the Central Family Health Center located in the district center of a province in the Central Black Sea Region. No sample selection was used, and a total of 326 individuals aged 65 and over who met the inclusion criteria were included in the study. Data were collected by using a Descriptive Characteristics Form, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, the UCLA-Loneliness Scale, and the Beck Hopelessness Scale.Results: The study revealed that the mean age of the older adults was 74.03±6.99 years. A moderate negative correlation was found between the total mean score of Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support and the mean score of UCLA-Loneliness Scale. At the same time, there was a weak negative correlation between the total mean score of Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support and the total mean score of Beck Hopelessness Scale (p<0.001).Conclusions: Perceived social support was an effective factor in reducing perception of loneliness and hopelessness, and hopelessness increased as loneliness grew. It is recommended that nurses working in family health centers detect loneliness and hopelessness in older adults at an early stage and provide counseling services to both families and elderly individuals to enhance social support.
Objective: To examine the association between emotional intelligence and safe technology use among operating room nurses.Methods: This cross-sectional, correlational study included 88 operating room nurses working in a city hospital in Kocaeli. Data were collected using a Descriptive Information Form, the Safe Use of Technology in the Operating Room Scale, and the Rotterdam Emotional Intelligence Scale. Reliability was assessed with Cronbach’s α. Non-parametric tests (Mann–Whitney U and Kruskal–Wallis), Spearman correlations, and simple linear regression were used (α=0.05).Results: Participants’ mean age was 34.2±7.3 years; 83% were women, and 69.3% held a bachelor’s degree. Scores indicated high levels of safe technology practices (General Practices=4.51±0.59; Surgical Team=4.46±0.55) and emotional intelligence (4.02±0.56). Emotional intelligence correlated positively with both General Practices and Surgical Team Scale sections (p<0.01). Regression models were significant, with emotional intelligence explaining 21.2% of the variance in General Practices and 19.9% in Surgical Team scores.Conclusions: Higher emotional intelligence is associated with safer technology use among operating room nurses. Integrating emotional intelligence components into technology-safety training may strengthen the patient-safety culture in technologically intensive surgical settings.
Neurological and neurosurgical diseases encompass a broad spectrum of conditions that may present with acute or chronic courses, benign or malignant characteristics, diverse clinical manifestations, and prolonged recovery periods. Various assessment approaches are available for the early diagnosis, treatment planning, and timely intervention of these diseases. Several scales and scoring systems are used in their evaluation. One such assessment method is the measurement of the pupil and pupillary light reflex, which provides information about the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of the autonomic nervous system, offers guidance regarding various neural structures, and enables an inexpensive and simple evaluation of patients’ clinical course. In recent years, technological advancements have enabled the objective measurement of this reflex through portable infrared pupillometry devices, thereby aiming to minimize inter-observer variability. However, due to the high cost of such objective assessment tools, many healthcare institutions may be unable to include them in their inventory. Consequently, pupil evaluation using a light source and pupil gauge, performed by healthcare professionals, remains a simple and practical method. To reduce potential inconsistencies in the evaluation process, it is essential that healthcare personnel possess adequate knowledge and practical experience in pupil assessment. This article reviews and synthesizes the relevant literature on pupil evaluation.
Objective: This study aimed to analyze global research trends, collaboration networks, and thematic developments regarding the use of digital tools and artificial intelligence (AI) in postoperative nursing care for older adults between 2020 and 2025. Methods: A bibliometric analysis was conducted using data from the Web of Science Core Collection. The search included publications from 2020 to 2025 using keywords such as artificial intelligence, digital tools, machine learning, postoperative care, and older adults. Data were analyzed with the Bibliometrix package in RStudio (v4.2.3) and visualized through Biblioshiny. Quantitative indicators—publication trends, citation impact, collaboration rates, and thematic mapping—were evaluated.Results: A total of 44 articles published across 38 journals were analyzed. The annual growth rate of publications was 47.58%, with 222 authors contributing and an average of 5.16 co-authors per paper, reflecting strong international and interdisciplinary collaboration (31.82%). The most productive sources were the Journal of Medical Internet Research and the Journal of Nursing Management. Keyword analysis revealed that artificial intelligence, machine learning, nursing, and technology were dominant, while emerging themes included geriatric rehabilitation and clinical decision support systems. These trends highlight the growing role of AI-driven systems in improving postoperative outcomes and nursing decision-making for older adults.Conclusion: The findings indicate that research on AI and digital technologies in postoperative nursing care is rapidly expanding, reflecting a paradigm shift toward data-driven, technology-enhanced, and patient-centered care. Future research should focus on the validation of AI models, ethical considerations, and the integration of digital competencies into nursing education and practice.
Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between nursing students' professional values and their perceptions of clinical decision-making.Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional, correlational study included 207 nursing students meeting the inclusion criteria. “The Nurses' Professional Values Scale-Revised”, the “Clinical Decision Making in Nursing Scale”, and the Personal Information Form were used to gather data. Descriptive statistics, Student’s t-test, one-way ANOVA, Tamhane’s post hoc test, and Pearson’s correlation were used. A p-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results: The students' mean score on the “Clinical Decision-Making in Nursing Scale” was 131.92 ± 11.35, indicating a satisfactory level of clinical decision-making perception. In addition, it was observed that students' professional value perceptions were also high (103.04 ± 14.33). Mean clinical decision-making scores differed significantly by class level (p < 0.05). A statistically significant, moderate correlation was identified between the scores on the Nurses' Professional Values Scale–Revised and those obtained from the "Clinical Decision-Making in Nursing Scale" (r = 0.318, p < 0.000).Conclusion: The nursing students participating in the study demonstrated high levels of clinical decision-making and strong perceptions of professional values. It was observed that as students' perception of professional values increased, their perception of clinical decision-making also increased. It is recommended that students’ clinical decision-making skills and professional values be assessed throughout their nursing education and developed through diverse educational methods.
Objective: The main purpose of this study is to examine the public relations practices used in hospitals through web pages. Method: Public relations practice studies in the literature have been examined and a scale has been developed by using the deductive method. The developed scale was reviewed by academicians in the field while deciding its final form. The scale includes 9 areas of public relations practices and 39 sub-questions. In order to test the measurementtable, a total of 1534 websites of public and private hospitals operating in T & uuml;rkiye were examined using the full enumeration method. Results: The frequency analysis conducted revealed that the most commonly practiced public relations activities were media relations/publicity, corporate social responsibility, employee relations/corporate communication, and corporate identity and image. The activities found to be least frequently implemented were sponsorship, crisis and issue management, event management, lobbying, and financial relations. Conclusion: In conclusion, it can be stated that media relations activities were the most prevalent in healthcare institutions. As regards to the public relations practices; the public hospitals apply corporate social responsibility public relations the most while the private hospitals apply media relations/announcement the most, and finally the university hospitals apply employee member relations/corporate communication activities the most.
Objective: This study aimed to identify traditional and complementary medicine practices observed by nursing students in wound care. Method: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with nursing students. The sample consisted of 249 students. Data were collected through a sociodemographic questionnaire and a 15-item open-ended form designed to explore traditional and complementary medicine practices in wound care. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis, and frequency (n) and percentage (%) distributions were calculated. Institutional and ethics committee approvals were obtained prior to the study.Results: Among the participants, 10.4% were male and 89.6% were female; the largest group was second-year students (32.5%). The most common practice for sunburn was applying yogurt (78.4%). For infection-related wounds, cologne (23.2%), onion juice (19.6%), and St. John’s wort oil (19.6%) were frequently observed. In burn injuries, cold-water application (47.9%), yogurt (11.8%), and ice (11.1%) were reported. For surgical wounds, St. John’s wort oil (65.2%) and Aloe vera (21.3%) were applied; in traumatic wounds, ice (53.6%) was preferred. Conclusion: The findings highlight culturally embedded practices in wound care, emphasizing the need to strengthen patient-centered approaches and distinguish non-evidence-based methods to promote evidence-based nursing care.
This study aims to highlight the potential of liposomal nanocarrier systems in addressing the challenges associated with the treatment of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and to provide a literature-based foundation for their use in targeted therapeutic approaches. This study evaluating the efficacy of liposomal drug delivery systems in TNBC treatment, along with current developments reported in the literature. Particular emphasis is placed on surface modifications involving PEGylation, antibodies, aptamers, and small molecules, and their impact on therapeutic success. TNBC accounts for approximately 20% of all breast cancer cases and represents a highly aggressive subtype characterized by treatment resistance and high metastatic potential. Conventional treatment methods often fall short, with recurrence observed in about 40% of cases and mortality reaching 80–90% due to therapy-resistant tumors. Liposomes have garnered attention due to their ability to enhance drug bioavailability, reduce systemic toxicity, and provide tumor site-specific targeting. Numerous formulations have been developed, ranging from PEGylated liposomes to antibody- and aptamer-conjugated systems, demonstrating therapeutic efficacy in various TNBC cell lines and animal models. Given the aggressive nature of TNBC and the limited treatment options, liposomal nanocarrier systems offer a promising alternative. The integration of these systems with specific targeting modifications may lay the groundwork for future personalized and more effective TNBC therapies. To facilitate clinical translation, it is essential to establish standardized production protocols, streamline regulatory processes, and strengthen interdisciplinary collaborations.
The main aim of this study was to determine the effect of some sociodemographic characteristics and care behaviours of municipal staff caring for patients at home on patient-centred care competency levels.The population of this descriptive study consisted of 60 personnel providing health and care services to patients registered to Home Health Services. In the study, 60 nurses who accepted to participate in the study were included in the study. The data of the study were collected by using ‘Descriptive Characteristics Form, (BDI-24) and (HMBYÖ)’.As a result of the study, it was found that the mean age was 28.91±3.61, 56.7% were female, 93.3% were undergraduate graduates, 68.3% were single, the mean score of the Care Behaviour Scale was 4.31±1.01, the highest score was 4.38±1.02 from the assurance sub-dimension and the lowest score was 4.21±1.13 from the commitment sub-dimension. The mean score of the Patient-Centred Care Competency Scale was 68.22±14.14, the highest score was 23.70±5.27 from the sub-dimension of respecting the patients' point of view, and the lowest score was 12.23±2.75 from the sub-dimension of patient advocacy. As a result of the study, it was determined that although the perceptions of the care staff regarding the quality of care were positive, the competence level of patient-centred care competence was high.
The aim of the study is to determine the relationship between spiritual intelligence and light triad and the predictive power of spiritual intelligence and light triad and to reveal the importance of the light triad in terms of spiritual intelligence. Correlational method was used in the study. Participants were formed a convenient sampling method. The sample of the study consisted of 293 students (85% female, 15% male) studying at Sakarya University. Data were collected with the Spiritual Intelligence Characteristics’ Scale and the Light Triad Scale. As a result of the Pearson Correlation Analysis, a positive significant relationship was found between spiritual intelligence and the light triad, except for the relationship between the ability to understand the spiritual/non-material aspect of life and faith in humanity, personal meaning production and humanism, and faith in humanity. Multiple regression analysis found that humanism significantly predicted both spiritual/spiritual understanding of life and awareness dimensions of spiritual intelligence, and Kantianism and faith in humanity sub-dimensions significantly predicted metaphysical awareness, and Kantianism significantly predicted entering high states of consciousness and awareness. The t-test result found that the dimensions of spiritual intelligence did not differ significantly according to gender. In generally, the relationship between spiritual intelligence and light triad was examined and light triad was found to predict spiritual intelligence. It was found that spiritual intelligence did not differ significantly according to gender. As a result, it can be said that intelligence and personality are related.
Endometriosis is a benign chronic disease characterized by the ectopic implantation and growth of endometrial tissue, which is normally confined to the uterine cavity. This disease frequently causes pain symptoms such as dysmenorrhea, pelvic pain, dyspareunia, dyspareunia, dysuria, dyskinesia and infertility and negatively affects the quality of life of women. In this context, pharmacologic and/or surgical treatment is applied as medical intervention in order to reduce the symptoms of endometriosis and improve quality of life. Due to the non-curative nature of medical treatments and the risk of recurrence following surgical interventions, current treatment options do not offer a complete cure for endometriosis. Therefore, women may adopt self-care practices in addition to standard treatments as part of endometriosis management. When these practices are carried out under the control of healthcare team, they can contribute positively to the management of the disease. One of the key members of the healthcare team is the endometriosis nurse, who plays a prominent role through responsibilities in caregiving, education, counseling, communication, and coordination. In this review, symptoms, treatment, self-care practices and the role of the nurse in endometriosis were discussed.
