
This paper introduces the Adaptive Stakeholders’ Interface Management System (ASIMS) for university infrastructure projects, employing a system-of-systems approach. A mixed-methods design - involving surveys, flowcharting, key informant discussions, descriptive and inferential analyses - was adopted. ASIMS targeted 412 project management professionals with ≥ 10 years’ experience across 12 universities. These experts provided perspectives that informed ASIMS development. The system was then deployed in two ongoing projects at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (a hold-out sample) and validated through performance feedback from 10 experts. Findings reveal that ASIMS significantly improves project communication by increasing openness (19.1%), honesty (9.3%), inclusivity (5.3%), and transparency (3.5%). It also leads to reductions in: conflicts (17.2%), uncertainties (13.5%), cost overruns (11.2%), time overruns (10.6%), and quality compromises (7.8%). In conclusion, ASIMS promotes communication, inclusivity, collaboration, and conflict resolution. Adoption of Agile principles that emphasize continuous multi-level stakeholder engagement, communication, and accountability is recommended to optimise interface management.
The present study aims to provide a comprehensive meta-analysis of the impact of project managers’ personality traits on project success. In this regard, five personality traits from the Five-Factor Model-extraversion, conscientiousness, openness, agreeableness, and neuroticism-were examined, and the effect of each trait on project success was analyzed. Based on a systematic review of studies published between 2010 and April 2025, this research synthesized 35 effect sizes derived from nine different studies, analyzing data from a sample of 1,409 individuals. The findings indicate that project managers’ traits of extraversion, conscientiousness, openness to experience, and agreeableness have a significant positive impact on project success, whereas neuroticism has a significant negative impact. These results underscore the critical role of project managers’ personality traits in determining project success and can serve as a robust foundation for future research in this field. Furthermore, the findings offer valuable insights for the selection and development of project managers within organizations.
Project management education plays a key role in developing project professionals, as it is understood as a complex competence integrating contextual, interpersonal, and technical dimensions. Despite its importance, empirical evidence on how such competence is acquired during formal education remains limited. This study applies k-modes clustering, an unsupervised machine learning approach, to examine patterns among students in a Project Management course. Analysis draws on a secondary dataset covering demographics, student engagement, and academic performance. The results reveal clusters of students exhibiting heterogeneous learning profiles and pathways relevant for competence development. These findings indicate that students are not homogeneous and that uniform educational approaches may constrain competence development. Building on these results, the study proposes a Data-Driven Framework for Competence-Oriented Student Segmentation. By providing empirical, data-driven insights into learning heterogeneity, the study contributes to project management education research and offers a methodological basis for further investigation of competence-oriented curriculum design.
Purpose – This paper outlines the progression of the Talent Management (TM) scholarly body of work from 2001 to 2025, focusing on TM's unique application across different forms of Project-Based Organizations. The principal aim of this work is to crystallize the most important academic contributions concerning TM, review the themes that have formed, subsequently, ascertain potential avenues for further developing research, and connect talent strategies with project-based working environments. Design/Methodology/Approach - In our analysis of the procurement literature, we have determined that there are currently over 586 journal articles on procurement published in Scopus, which we conducted using Bibliometric Analysis, a tool used to perform performance metrics and author productivity metrics. In addition, also conducted Co-Authoring and Co-Word Analysis, and ultimately, we were able to construct a map of the intellectual structure of the field of TM based on the results of these analyses. For the most part, our map illustrated the existence of three major themes of interest regarding Talent Management: temporary project environments, knowledge-intensive project environments, and cross-functional team project environments. Findings - This study examines the gap between the publication frequency of an author and the citation metrics for that author. The citation metrics show that the “International Journal of Project Management” is currently the leading journal for this area, while the “BI Norwegian Business School” has had the greatest academic impact based on their position as a major publisher in the field. The majority of these articles were authored in Europe. In addition, this study identified the authors of the publications with the most citations as primarily the first authors. Research Implication/Limitation – The reliance on only one database, Scopus, has limited this study as it does not consider related studies contained in other databases. The limitations surrounding the keywords used as well as use of bibliometric tools have resulted in excluding some of the lesser-known subtleties and contextual factors. Despite these limitations, this research is able to provide an overall analysis of the current trends in talent management when applied to project-oriented environments. In the end, this provides practical information regarding how to harmonise the use of agile human resource management, leadership, and digital talent management strategies with successful projects. Originality - This rapid shift to project-based organizational structures has completely changed the way knowledge, human capital, and performance are managed in the dynamic environment.
This article presents the background of the dark dimension of project management, from the classical leadership perspective and traditional project management perspective to more evolved dark leadership theories and the dark side of project management. The aim of this article is to suggest a new conceptual framework on Dark Project Leadership that would serve as a basis for future research-based foundations for theoretical advancement. An analysis of the evolution of management and leadership theories concerning the adverse facets of management and project management theory development, along with the identification of its shadow aspects, has led to the formulation of a Dark Project Leadership conceptual framework. This framework seeks to synthesize existing knowledge and foster novel theoretical understandings. The framework should serve to structure the understanding of dark leadership within project management contexts. This suggests new theoretical avenues, empirical study designs, or methodological approaches to further explore the complexities of Dark Project Leadership.
This study explores how project team resilience influences agile practices, socio-cognitive spaces, and project success in road construction projects in Uganda. Data were gathered via questionnaires from 44 completed projects and analyzed using Partial Least Squares regression with SmartPLS. Findings indicate a strong positive relationship between agile practices, team resilience, and project success. Project team resilience emerges as a critical factor in achieving successful outcomes. Although socio-cognitive space does not directly affect project success, it significantly shapes team resilience, especially in the dynamic context of road construction. Interestingly, project team resilience does not mediate the link between agile practices and project success; instead, agile practices and socio-cognitive space independently influence project success, jointly explaining 58.3% of its variance. The study emphasizes the need to strengthen project team resilience during both the design and implementation stages of road construction projects. Elements like social capital, mastery approaches, and collective efficacy are highlighted as key to building project resilient teams capable of adapting to uncertainty and complexity. A major limitation of the research is its cross-sectional nature, which prevents analysis of changes over time. Future research is advised to adopt a longitudinal approach to better understand how these relationships evolve across a project’s lifecycle.
This article explores the concept of project-based e-learning focusing on its application in lifelong education. Learing through projects contributes to building competences in project management that are transferable to real-world project environments. This article presents а detailed review of the project-bаsed e-leаrning аs pаrt of lifelong educаtion. This is achieved through the аnаlysis of chаrаcteristics, аdvаntаges аnd chаllenges of project-bаsed e-leаrning, identifying and highlighting its key elements, аs well аs various approaches for model implementаtion. The reseаrch includes dаtа collection through online survey аnd аnаlysis of the аttitudes аnd experiences of employees in relаtion to project-bаsed leаrning. The reseаrch results provide insight into the strengths аnd weaknesses of this аpproаch from the angle of employees in different industries, аs well аs their engаgement аnd motivаtion. Lastly, the article explores the integrаtion of project-bаsed e-leаrning with trаditionаl educаtionаl methods, focusing on complementary aspects of these two pаrаdigms.
This research investigates the influence of both individual variables related to the project manager and the project contextual variables on the choice of project management (PM) tools and techniques used in information systems (IS) projects. Responses to an international web-based survey showed that individual variables, such as the project manager’s specialized training and years of experience in PM, as well as variables such as the adopted PM methodology or use of software in PM, play a central role in the use of the various PM tools and techniques in IS projects. The results of this research help organizations improve PM performance, namely by choosing skilled and experienced project managers for their projects and defining focused training programs.
The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility of implementing a construction project at the stage of re-investment based on the principles of development in Ukraine. The methodology of this study was based on a survey that helped identify the key factors of investment budget overruns, as well as economic modelling of construction projects, which helped identify the relationship between risks and financial performance. The data obtained were analysed using correlation analysis to assess the impact of development principles on the effectiveness of management decisions. The findings of this study revealed that a significant number of construction projects face risks that exceed the originally planned budget. The main factors affecting budget overruns were changes in the regulatory environment, underestimation of materials and labour costs, and unpredictable external economic factors. Economic modelling has shown that companies that implement development principles can reduce the risk of budget overruns compared to those that do not. This indicates a significant positive impact of development on management decisions. The correlation analysis revealed a strong correlation between the implementation of development principles and the growth of return on investment.
The new construction legislation in Slovakia, which is to come into effectiveness in 2025, gives municipalities the opportunity to make agreements with builders to build investments in the public interest. The subject of the examination are projects of the capital city of Slovakia, when Bratislava via Agreements of Cooperation for investment activities in cooperation with builders, tries to reduce the investment debt on the city's property. For this purpose, we have collected data from interviews and analyzed secondary data from official documents. We have focused on the infrastructure projects of Bratislava municipality in the past and today. The results show that the projects that are being realized based on Agreements of Cooperation have a direct impact on capacities focused on new infrastructure projects to modernize the existing infrastructure of Bratislava. The project attributes and lessons learned provide insight into opportunities that can contribute to infrastructure projects in other municipalities.
Despite extensive hazard reporting systems being implemented across the construction industry, serious injuries and fatalities (SIF) continue to plague worksites, revealing a missing link between hazard identification and effective corrective action implementation. This study addresses this overlooked dimension by examining how organizational roles create systemic variations in hazard response quality, a factor rarely investigated in existing safety literature. Our analysis of 732 hazard reports from a multinational project management construction company demonstrates that safety personnel issued 78.4 % of strong corrective actions while frontline construction teams accounted for only 21.6 %. Statistical analysis revealed an association between organizational role and corrective action effectiveness (p < 0.001) with frontline teams showing substantially weaker follow through than safety personnel as evidenced by the complete absence of strongest category corrective actions from construction teams. The research underscores the urgent need for role specific hazard reporting protocols and integrated communication channels between safety personnel and construction teams to bridge this critical implementation gap. Future research should investigate how role based hazard reporting interventions affect accident reduction rates and near-miss reporting trends to establish causal relationships between organizational roles and safety outcomes.
Due to the significant growth of project work in various sectors and industries, an increasing number of organizations are adopting project portfolio management to effectively manage projects of different sizes being implemented simultaneously. It becomes particularly important within IT as it represents the basis of digital transformation, enables competitive advantage, global connectivity and collaboration, facilitates growth of e-commerce, ensures protection of sensitive data and business security, and is a catalyst for innovation. However, since many organizations face challenges in project portfolio management despite the efforts they invest in using good practices in accordance with recommendations from standards and existing literature, demand for competent individuals who can deal with them and seize strategic value for organizations significantly increases. With the aim of examining the attitude of project professionals towards the competencies required for successfully overcoming the challenges at all levels and roles of IT project portfolio management, both quantitative and qualitative research were conducted among 83 project, program and portfolio managers and team members. Communication and interpersonal skills, stakeholder, information and resource management, looking at a bigger picture and strategy, prioritization, application of appropriate practices and methodologies are recognized as some of the key competencies for tackling the challenges.
NFTs have changed the outlines of digital assets and rights, creating new possibilities for identifying and trading digital products. This technology allows the development of future-proof linked digital assets with significant uses in sectors like art, gaming, real estate, and fashion. NFTs impact and change ownership and provenance in these fields while creating new economic models and engaging users. This paper proposes the methodology for the development and management of NFT projects. The development of a prototype of an NFT fashion project is shown to explore the potential of adopting the proposed method. The developed NFT fashion project gives a clear approach to implementing and managing NFT projects using agile methodologies. The proposed NFT project also proposes tools for creating NFT collections, blockchain technology for developing and deploying smart contracts for conducting business transactions, and web technologies for developing an NFT marketplace.
Organizational Network Analysis (ONA) examines communication patterns and interactions within organizations to identify key individuals, optimize knowledge flow, and boost performance. Based on Social Network Analysis (SNA) concepts like centrality, weak ties, and structural holes, the study uncovers hidden relational structures essential to success. Objectives include identifying key employees, detecting bottlenecks, supporting leadership development, and enhancing project management. A mixed-method approach integrates quantitative data from digital communication records with qualitative organizational interviews. Tools such as Neo4j, Gephi, and a custom console application streamlined data processing. The research advances project management by embedding ONA methods, offering AI-driven real-time insights and predictive capabilities. Practical contributions include tools for monitoring workloads, fostering collaboration, promoting innovation, and improving management effectiveness.
In this article the experiment on the use of neurotechnologies among project team members was described and conducted using brain-computer interface with functional biofeedback technology. The results of the experiment showed that it was extremely difficult for young people to regulate psycho-emotional state and the technology of neurofeedback can be regarded as “physiological mirror” which helps to train the physiological and mental states by tracking their brain activity in a real time mode. It was found out as well that the teamwork contributes to increased involvement, self-confidence, concentration and relaxation of the participant, if necessary. In conclusion some recommendations for project managers were given. The results of the practical part can be useful for further study of brain activity, receptivity to information, various psycho-emotional states of employees of organizations, as well as for the practical application of neurofeedback technologies in the activities of companies and project teams.
IT initiatives are crucial for innovation, operations, and corporate competitiveness in today’s environment. Understanding the complex relationship between team performance and leadership is crucial. Team performance and leadership are increasingly seen as crucial to IT project success, but little is known about this complex relationship in IT project management. Few research has examined how leadership behaviours and techniques affect IT team performance and project outcomes, despite various studies on team dynamics or leadership effectiveness. This study examines aspects of IT project leadership and team performance. A closed-ended survey was used to acquire quantitative data for the study. The data was analysed using SPSS and Spearman’s correlation to discover the variables’ relationships. The study developed a leadership model from the data that greatly impacts IT project success. This study suggests that project managers find, cultivate, and execute practical ideas to improve project success rates. Understanding the complex relationship between team performance and leadership and using effective leadership tactics helps boost IT project success.
This article embarks on an in-depth exploration of how corporate social responsibility (hereafter: CSR) shapes the financial performance (hereafter: FP) of Project-Oriented Organizations (hereafter: POOs) within Morocco's dynamic construction sector. By adopting a diligent quantitative research method, this research meticulously examined a diverse sample of 250 organizations through advanced correlation and multivariate linear regression techniques. The results illuminate a compelling and noteworthy favourable relationship between CSR initiatives and the FP, indicating that ethical business practices profoundly enhance economic outcomes. By focusing on the distinctive Moroccan landscape, the article sheds light on the remarkable challenges and opportunities faced by POOs, showing an understanding of the financial benefits of CSR. Acknowledging its limitations, the study suggests avenues for future research and perspectives founded on HSDG wisdom. It advocates the HESG framework by integrating a human-centric approach to encourage healthy, equitable and sustainable societal evolution. The study provides actionable recommendations for policymakers, business leaders, and scholars aiming at promoting sustainable economic growth and long-term societal well-being.
The construction industry plays a crucial role in India's fiscal targets amid a growing emphasis on infrastructure development. Despite extensive project management knowledge, persistent delays afflict 33% of projects, averaging a 47-month setback as of August 2021. This study seeks to pinpoint Critical Delay Factors (CDFs) in contemporary construction projects, drawing from 59 attributes identified through literature and expert input. A questionnaire survey gauged expert opinions on the impact of these attributes. Factor analysis unveiled underlying constructs, revealing seven CDFs, and the Relative Importance Index (RII) ranked factors by significance. Across professional roles and regional distinctions, ANOVA demonstrated consistent CDF evaluations. These findings are anticipated to guide project stakeholders in prioritizing factors for effective delay management, promoting successful project outcomes.
Globalization have a strong impact on education and science, being a catalyst for progressive changes. This research aims to analyze a new paradigm of public management as a unique symbiosis of cosmopolitan and Ukraine-centric thinking. The research methodology combines quantitative and qualitative approaches to analyze the impact of globalization on education and science in Ukraine. Key components include a review of recent literature on governance, digitalization, and national identity, alongside a comparative analysis of digitalization strategies in different countries to identify best practices for Ukraine. This multidisciplinary approach forms a basis for developing effective policies in the management of education and science in the face of globalization and digitalization. Thus, the analysis of globalization and digitalization impact on the development of education and science in 2003-2022 demonstrated the lack of clear patterns against the background of increased turbulence of the market space, which complicates designing the universal public management model. On the basis of differential calculus, the public management optimization model of digitalization in education and science is developed. This optimization model can be applied as an element of the national public management strategy for digitalization in education and science. Finally, it was established that there are significant direct links between digitalization expenditures, global partnership, Ukrainization level, digital competences, and socio-economic gains of digitalization.
Developing economies rely heavily on construction projects. However, not much is known about how stakeholders’ engagement and leadership styles affect public construction project success. This study examines whether, the relationship between leadership styles and the success of public construction projects in Uganda is mediated by stakeholders' engagement. Next, develops a model explaining the success of Ugandan public construction projects. In order to verify hypotheses, we adopted a cross-sectional quantitative design using structural equation modeling and SPSS. With a theoretical lens, a model that incorporates the complimentary effect of path goal and stakeholder theory helped to explain factors influencing project success. Based on a sample of 100 KCCA Construction projects, results indicate leadership style is correlated to project success; stakeholders’ engagement partly mediates the connection between leadership styles and public construction project’ success. Using a developing country (Uganda) in sub-Saharan Africa, the study adds to the literature on public project performance.
