ITiCSE is a computing education conference held annually, typically in Europe, sponsored by ACM SIGCSE and in collaboration with ACM Europe Council and Informatics Europe. ITiCSE 2026 will be an in-person conference.
The SIGCSE Bulletin rings in a new year — our 58th year — with a new look and format. Actually, we have two new formats: there is now a web-based version, which we hope will make the reading experience smoother for those who read on smaller screens. We have also made some changes to the PDF version that should improve readability as well. We'd appreciate your feedback on these updates.
Koli Calling is a long-running conference for researchers, educators, and practitioners in computing education, providing opportunities for presenting research and networking in a unique natural setting. The conference is a single-track event and covers a wide range of topics within computing education. This year, we celebrated Koli Calling's 25th anniversary.

The ACM SIGCSE Conference on Research on Equity and Sustained Participation in Engineering, Computing, and Technology (RESPECT) 2026 will be held on June 8–10, 2026, in Chicago, IL, USA. The theme for this year is Equity-focused CS Education: Honoring the Plurality of our Community. 2026 marks the beginning of a new decade for RESPECT. The RESPECT Organizing Committee intentionally pursues opportunities to elevate those who may not easily find footing in traditional CS Education venues, confident that their positionality and perspectives can enrich our interdisciplinary scholarship. This year's theme reaffirms our commitment to championing equitable research and practice in computing education and emphasizes the people doing the work — a myriad of individuals who come together in our community.
The 22nd annual ACM Conference on International Computing Education Research (ICER) aims to gather high-quality contributions to the Computing Education Research discipline. The "Research Papers" track invites submissions describing original research results related to any aspect of teaching and learning computing, from introductory through advanced material. Submissions are welcome from across the research methods used in Computing Education Research and related fields. Each contribution will be assessed based on: •the appropriateness and soundness of its methods •its relevance to teaching or learning computing •the depth of its contribution to the community's understanding of the question at hand

You are warmly welcomed to the 30th annual ACM Conference on Innovation and Technology in Computer Science Education (ITiCSE), which will be held at Radboud University in Nijmegen, Netherlands from 30 June to 2 July 2025. ITiCSE is a computing education conference held annually, typically in Europe, sponsored by ACM SIGCSE and in collaboration with ACM Europe Council and Informatics Europe.
The 2025 SIGCSE Technical Symposium was held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from 26 February–1 March 2025. This was one of the largest Technical Symposiums ever, with a total of 1,707 registered attendees. Most of these attendees were in-person (96%) while the remainder joined us online. Regardless of modality, the program provided a diverse set of papers, panels, special sessions, and other works centered on improving computer science education.
Every three years, the SIGCSE Board holds elections for each elected position on the SIGCSE Board. Elections are being held this year for the board that will serve July 2025 — June 2028. Board members must be members of ACM and SIGCSE. Work to create the election slate started in September 2024 with the forming of the election committee. The committee was chaired by Adrienne Decker (U. at Buffalo, USA), Past Chair of the current SIGCSE Board. The other members of the election committee were: DaQuan Bashir (CSTA, USA), Alison Clear (EIT Auckland, New Zealand), Tamara Pearson (Georgia Tech, USA), Manuel Pérez Quiñones (U. of North Carolina-Charlotte, USA), and Jan Vahrenhold (U. of Münster, Germany).
SIGCSE Virtual 2024 was the first ACM Virtual Global Computing Education Conference and was designed to bring together educators, CSed researchers, and practitioners from around the world, particularly those who face difficulties traveling to SIGCSE-TS or other SIGCSE conferences. In its inaugural year, we had to come up with new ideas to make it suitable as an inclusive conference for participants from all around the world. Therefore, we decided early to have a three-day conference with three different themes based on regions: Europe, Africa, Middle East, and West Asia; East Asia, Australia, and New Zealand; and the Americas. We decided to hold the conference in early December of 2024 to have the most time available for planning and preparation. Unfortunately, some US educators shared that they could not participate as it conflicted with their final exams.
We warmly invite you to attend the 25th Koli Calling International Conference on Computing Education Research (Koli Calling 2025), to be held 13–16 November 2025 in the beautiful Koli National Forest in Eastern Finland. The submission deadline for full papers and discussion papers is 27 July 2025.

The 2025 SIGCSE Technical Symposium will soon be upon us! The Technical Symposium will take place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from February 26 to March 01, 2025. We are looking forward to welcoming the SIGCSE community at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on the banks of the Allegheny River. Our theme for this year is "Leading the Transformation."
The SIGCSE community was saddened by the recent loss of Brett Becker (1976 - 2024). He had been serving as vice-chair of SIGCSE. He was an assistant professor in the School of Computer Science at University College Dublin, founder and chair of the Ireland SIGCSE chapter, and associate editor of ACM TOCE. He was also the inaugural chair of the ACM Global Computing Education conference.
An ACM SIGCSE conference, CompEd is held outside of North America and Europe every other year. ACM CompEd 2025 will be hosted by the University of Botswana.

In June 2020, the ACM Council voted to transition ACM's Publications program to a 100% sustainable Open Access model within 5 years with the ultimate goal of making all ACM-published articles open access upon publication. This deadline is fast approaching, and for some ACM-published conference articles the new model is already active. ACM is revamping its publication model with its new ACM OPEN policy. ACM has discussed the potential benefits (open articles are downloaded 100-150% more and cited 70% more frequently) and the challenges of this model in depth. Instead of discussing the merits of the model, we would like to present to our community in concrete terms the impacts of this new publication model for authors: What will change when I publish in a SIGCSE-related conference from 2025 onwards when ACM transitions to a 100% Open Access publication model?
Dr. Samuel Mann is a Professor at Otago Polytechnic in Dunedin, New Zealand, focused on computing and sustainability. He was a leader in developing the ACM's draft statement on Education for Sustainability.
