
The experiment was conducted to study the efficacy of nine new fungicides in managing powdery mildew disease of pumpkin under field conditions during rabi season using the variety ‘BARI Mistikumra-2’. The fungicides were K-zeb M-45 WP (Mancozeb 80% WP), Cymozeb 72 WP (Mancozeb 64% + Cymoxanil 8%), Carbostin 50 WDG (Carbendazim 50% WP), Ridhuk 25 SC (Hexaconazole 3%), Lalon 75 WDG (T5Trifloxostrobin 25% + Tebuconazole 50%), Kariwa 28 SC (Azoxystrobin 20% + Cyproconazole 80%), Limotar top 32.5 SC (Azoxystrobin 20% + Difenazole 12.5%), Switch 72 WP (Mancozeb 64% + Cymoxanil 8%) and Bioconazole plus 25 SC (hexaconazole 3% + Tricyclazole 22%). All fungicides enhanced vegetative growth and fruit yield of pumpkin in general. Among the fungicides, Carbostin 50 WDG (@ 2% performed better and reduced the present disease index by 3.17% resulted in a higher fruit yield (19.75 t/ha) of pumpkin. The investigation revealed that the application of Carbostin 50 WDG fungicide would be a potential aspirant for effective management of powdery mildew disease of pumpkins under field conditions. The experiment was carried out on a multilocational testing (MLT) site, Hobiganj district to find out suitable sowing dates of rapeseed mustard (Brassica campestris and Brassica napus). The mustard var. BARI Sarisha-18 was cultivated during rabi season of two consecutive years 2022-23 and 2023-24 in randomized complete block (RCB) design with 3 replications. The treatments were five sowing dates viz. 15 November, 30 November, 15 December, 30 December and 15 January. The 30th November sowing performed best with seed yield of 2.73 t ha-1 by producing 85.71% higher seed yield than 15th January with seed yield of 1.47 t ha-1. The experiment was carried out on brinjal-onion intercropping with relay snake gourd without trellis at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS) Jamalpur during 2020-21 and 2021-22 to find out the suitable crop combination for increasing crop productivity, profitability and maximization of land utilization.The treatments were.T1 = Brinjal (100 %) + 6 row onion + relay snake gourd (1m×1.5m), T 2= Brinjal (100%) + 6 row onion + relay snake gourd (2m×1.5m), T3 = Brinjal (100%) + 6 row onion + relay snake gourd(3m×1.5m), T4 = Brinjal paired row+12 row onion + relay snake gourd(1.75m×1.5m) and T5 = Sole brinjal (100cm×60cm), T6 = Sole onion (10cm×6cm) and T7 = Sole snake gourd (1m×1.5m).Brinjal (BARI Begun-8), Onion (BARI Piaj-4) and Snake gourd (BARI Chichinga-1) were used as test materials. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with five compact replications. Brinjal was the main crop, onion and snake gourd were intercrop and relay crop in the study. Significantly the higher yield was obtained in sole crops. Treatment, brinjal paired row + 12 row onion with relay snake gourd (T4) gave the highest equivalent yield of brinjal, onionand snake gourd 51.28, 42.74 and 51.28 tha-1, respectively which provided yield advantages of 85, 128 and 142 % over their respective sole crops. The experiments were conducted during two consecutive cropping seasons of 2017-19 to develop bio-rational based eco-friendly integrated management of root-knot diseases of tomato caused by Meloidogyne incognita. The root knot nematode (RKN) infested soils were treated with a different combination of Trichoderma based Tricho-compost and neem oil cake with or without low dose of chemical nematicide Furadan 5G. All the treatments gave appreciable reduction of gall development in roots, increased plant growth parameters such as shoot and root growth and fruit yield of tomato. Among the treatments, integration of Tricho-composts with Furadan 5G or neem oil cake integrated with Furadan 5G proved better. However, Trichoderma based bio-fungicides Tricho-composts alone produced promising results but integration of Tricho-composts with Furadan 5G or neem oil cake integrated with Furadan 5G could be the best for management of root knot nematode. The present study was conducted in the lath house of Citrus Research Station, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Jaintapur, Sylhet, during the years 2020 and 2021 (from April to July) to find out the best potting media for quality seedling production of black pepper from runner shoot cuttings. Two growing media, namely soil and coco dust, and two nutrient sources, viz. vermicompost and farmyard manure (FYM) were combined in different ratios to make nine potting media combinations. These were: T1 = soil alone, T2 = coco dust alone, T3 = soil + coco dust (1:1 v/v), T4 = soil + vermicompost (1:1 v/v), T5 = soil + FYM (1:1 v/v), T6 = coco dust + vermicompost (1:1 v/v), T7 = coco dust + FYM (1:1 v/v), T8 = soil + coco dust + vermicompost (1:1:1 v/v), T9 = soil + coco dust + FYM (1:1:1 v/v). The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications using ten cuttings per replication for each treatment. Among the different potting media compositions, coco dust + vermicompost at 1:1 v/v ratio resulted in the earliest sprouting (17 days and 19 days), the highest success in sprouting percentage (100% and 86.67%), maximum survival percentage (94.33% and 89%), and maximum number of newly emerged leaves cutting−1 (4.67) compared to the control and other treatments in both years (2020 and 2021). This treatment also performed best in terms of root parameters viz. maximum number of primary roots cutting−1 (15.67 and 16), longest root (24 cm and 19 cm), maximum root fresh weight (1.05 g and 1.14 g) and root dry weight (0.07 g and 0.42 g). Additionally, the longest shoot (37 cm and 39 cm) and the maximum shoot fresh weight (12.90 g and 17.99 g) and dry weight (3.14 g and 4.29 g) were also recorded in coco dust + vermicompost (1:1 v/v). The study suggests that the media consisting of coco dust + vermicompost (1:1 v/v) could be a better option for maximizing high- quality seedling production of black pepper using runner shoots cutting. Soybean provides a cheaper and protein rich alternative to animal protein. In Bangladesh, utilization of soybean in food items are scarce due to unavailability of suitable processing machines. Soymilk production and pasteurization machines can assist in increasing the human consumption of soybean by making soymilk and soya paneer. Thus, the experiment was conducted during 2019-21 to develop soymilk making machinery to increase consumption of soybean as human foods. Soymilk making machines consisted of a blender and a pasteurizing unit. The holding capacity of the blender and the pasteurizing units were 2 liters and 6 liters per batch, respectively. In the improved model, the operational time of the blender was 15 seconds corresponding to 83.68% blending efficiency to prepare soymilk for each batch. Time for raising the interlayer water temperature up to 100 ºC was 37.67 minutes. The soymilk was prepared within 20 minutes pasteurizing. Two experiments were conducted in the research field of the Plant Physiology Section, Horticulture Research Centre (HRC), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) from 05 to 30 December each of 2019 and 2020 to examine the influence of GA3 and find suitable growing conditions for better seed germination of lettuce seeds. The experiment consisted of two levels of GA3 viz. T1 = 0.0 ppm (control) and T2 = 10 ppm, and four growing conditions, G1 = Seeding in polythene bag placed under diffused light; G2 = Seeding in polythene bag placed under bright light, G3 = Seeding in seedbed placed under diffused light and G4 = Seeding in seedbed placed under bright light. Soaking of lettuce seeds in 10 ppm GA3 gave higher seed emergence percent, seedling fresh weight, seedling dry weight, seedling length and seedling dry weight and seedling vigour index than that with control treatment and seed growing condition, G1 treatment recorded the maximum seed emergence percent, seedling length and seedling vigour index. The treatment combination T2 x G1 or T2 x G3 showed the maximum seed emergence percent, seedling length and seedling vigour index. Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni an anti-diabetic medicinal herb is cultivated throughout the world for economic and medicinal values. However, conventional propagation methods are inefficient due to seed dormancy and slow growth rates. In this study, in vitro propagation protocol has been developed through indirect organogenesis for the production of healthy plantlets. Nodal and leaf explants were sterilized and cultured on MS medium containing various concentration and combination of Plant Growth Hormone (PGRs). Shoot induction was highest (100%) with Kinetin (0.5 mg L-1) while shoot proliferation (14.57 shoots/explant) was improved with Kinetin (1.0 mg L-1) + 6-Benzylaminopurine (BAP) (0.2 mg L-1). The highest rooting (100%) was observed in the MS medium supplemented with Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) at 0.2 mg L-1 and Naphthalene Acetic Acid (NAA) at 0.5 mg L-1. Hardened plantlets were successfully acclimatized to the sand and showed the maximum survival rate (87.5%) with similar morphology to the mother plants. Therefore, this study offers a valuable alternative to overcome the limitations of conventional propagation methods contributing to the commercial production of Stevia rebaudiana in Bangladesh and similar agro-climatic regions. An experiment was conducted at the Horticultural Research Field of Gazipur Agricultural University, Salna, Gazipur, during November 2016 to March 2017 to observe the responses of different potato varieties under different water deficit stress conditions and to find out the potential potato variety(ies) for achieving the maximum yield under water deficit stress condition. The experiment comprised four potato varieties, namely BARI Alu-7 (Diamant), BARI Alu-8 (Cardinal), BARI Alu-25 (Asterix) and BARI Alu-28 (Lady Rosetta) and three irrigations viz., Single irrigation at 30 days after planting (DAP) (Severe water stress), two irrigations at 30 and 45 DAP (Mild water stress) and three irrigations at 30, 45 and 60 DAP (Normal condition-no water stress). The results revealed that yield reduction under severe water stress condition was minimum in BARI Alu-25 (23.68%), followed by variety BARI Alu-28 (25.68%). The high yield maintenance ability of BARI Alu-25 and BARI Alu-28 under severe water stress was also supported by their higher stress tolerance indices of 0.82 and 0.74, respectively and their lower stress susceptibility indices of 0.58 and 0.55, respectively. BARI Alu-25 produced the highest fresh tuber yield, dry matter percentage, stress tolerance index (STI), lowest yield reduction and lowest stress susceptibility index (SSI) in well watered condition as well as the other two water deficit stress conditions. The experiment was conducted during 2017-18 to evaluate the effect of irrigation and nitrogen for enhancing the productivity and profitability of garden pea. The experiment consisted of five irrigation treatments viz., no irrigation, one irrigation at vegetative stage (15 days after sowing, DAS), one irrigation at flowering stage (30 DAS), one irrigation at pod developing stage (45 DAS) and two irrigations, one irrigation at vegetative stage (15 DAS) + one irrigation at pod developing stage (45 DAS) and five levels of nitrogen viz., 0, 20, 30, 40 and 50 kg N ha-1. The experiment was laid out in a spilt plot design with three replications assigning nitrogen doses in main plots and irrigation treatments in sub-plots. Garden pea variety ‘BARI Motorshuti-3’ was used in this study. The combined effect of irrigation at flowering stage and fertilization with 30 kg N ha-1 gave the highest green pod yield (7.57 t ha-1) and green stover yield (6.19 t ha-1), which was followed by no irrigation and fertilization with 30 kg N ha-1 that produced green pod yield of 7.54 t ha-1 and green stover yield of 6.12 t ha-1 in garden pea. According to cost and return analysis, among all the treatment combinations, no irrigation and fertilization with 30 kg N ha-1 was the best combination for enhancing gross margin (Tk. 448687.58 ha-1) and BCR (2.90) for maximum green pod yield. Irrigation at flowering stage coupled with 30 kg N ha-1 gave appreciable amount of gross margin (Tk 438363.40) and BCR (2.48) followed by the combination of irrigation at pod developing stage and 30 kg N ha-1 (gross margin: Tk 378018.40 and BCR: 2.42). Therefore, irrigation given at either at flowering stage (30 DAS) or pod developing stages (45 DAS) each in combination with 30 kg N ha-1 application is also a better combination for higher green pod production with better profitability under Bogura region when the crop needs to be irrigated. The experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of various biotic (living trees) and abiotic (non-living RCC pole) support systems on vegetative growth, yield attributes, and berry yield of black pepper (Piper nigrum L.) in a long-term field trial conducted from 2014 to 2021 at the Spices Research Sub-station, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Jaintiapur, Sylhet. The variety ‘Jaintia Golmorich-1’ was used in the experiment. The treatment comprised eight different supports viz., Jhika tree (Lannea coromandelica), Mandar tree (Erythrina variegata), Mango tree (Mangifera indica), Jackfruit tree (Artocarpus heterophyllus), Wild Jamun tree (Syzygium cumini), Carambola tree (Averrhoa carambola), Areca nut tree (Areca catechu) and RCC pole. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The results based on three years’ (2019, 2020 and 2021) average data revealed that the maximum number of productive plagiotropes was found under Wild Jamun and Jackfruit tree, respectively. The highest pooled value of spikes per 0.25 m2 was recorded in Wild Jamun tree (30.93), while spike length was highest from the vines trailed on Jackfruit tree (12.52 cm). Maximum spike weight (17.56 g) was found from Mango tree, whereas the highest number of berries per spike was observed in the vines trailed on Wild jamun (82.53). The longest maturity duration was observed in Mango support (232.11 days), while RCC pole support showed the shortest (194.46 days). Wild Jamun produced the highest fresh yield (15.98 kg) followed by Jackfruit tree (15.88 kg) but the lowest fresh yield was obtained from the vines supported on Mandar tree (3.04 kg) being statistically similar to Jhika tree (3.09 kg) and RCC pole (3.11 kg). The highest dry yield over three years was found in the vines trailed on Jackfruit tree (5.52 kg) closely followed by Wild jamun tree (5.49 kg) but the lowest pooled mean was recorded from Mandar. The highest dry matter percent were observed under Jackfruit tree (35.36%) followed by Areca nut tree (35.19%), Mango tree (35.05%) and RCC pole (34.55%). The experimental results suggested the uses of Jackfruit and Wild Jamun tree as the best living standards providing structural support and favorable microclimatic, also enhanced reproductive efficiency. An experiment was conducted at the Postharvest Technology Division Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Gazipur, Bangladesh, during 10 January 2020 to 10 March 2020 to find out the suitable storage temperature for winter squash (Cucurbita pepo) and extend its shelf life. The experiment comprised two sets of treatments viz., washing methods consisting of tap water washing (W1) and chlorinated water washing (W2), and four storage temperature composed of control room temperature; 25±2 ºC (T1); 8±0.5 ºC (T2); 12±0.5 ºC (T3) and 16±0.5 ºC (T4). The experiment was carried out in a Completely Randomized Design with three replications. For chlorinated water wash (120 ppm chlorine) was used which was prepared from sodium hypochlorite. The variety ‘BARI Squash-1’ was used in this experiment. The results showed that squash fruit stored in 8±0.5 ºC with chlorinated water wash had the highest firmness and vitamin C during the storage period (10-50 days at 10 days interval). However, squash fruits stored at 12±0.5 ºC with chlorinated water wash showed the maximum total soluble solid (TSS) during the storage. Shelf life was recorded maximum (57.33 days) from the combination of squash fruits stored in 8±0.5 ºC and chlorinated water wash which was statistically similar to the combination of squash fruits stored in 12±0.5 ºC and chlorinated water wash (55.33 days). It is concluded that chlorinated water wash using 120 ppm chlorine and storage temperature at 8 to 12 °C are suitable for storing squash fruits. Bangladesh J. Agril. Res. 50(2): 141-155, June 2025
The field experiment was carried out at the research farm of Regional Spices Research Centre, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Gazipur (23059/North Latitude and 90024/East Longitude) during two successive winter seasons of 2020-21 and 2021-22, to find out the optimum dose of nitrogen and suitable garlic variety for up scaling bulb production. The experiment was laid out in a two-factor randomized complete block design with three replications having four garlic varieties (BARI Rashun-1, BARI Rashun-2, BARI Rashun-3 and BARI Rashun-4) with four different levels of nitrogen (0, 50, 100 and 150 kg ha-1). A blanket dose of 60-160-20-2-1 kg ha-1 of P-K-S-Zn-B along with cowdung @ 5 t ha-1 was applied in each experimental plot. Both factors such as garlic variety and nitrogen level showed significant effects on the yield, yield components, pre-mature sprouting and nitrogen use efficiency of garlic. The highest bulb yield of (8.58 and 8.91 t ha-1 in 2020-21 and 2021-22, respectively) was obtained from BARI Rashun-3 regardless of N dose. On the other hand, application of 100 kg N ha-1 produced the highest bulb yield (8.1 and 9.55 t ha-1 in 2020-21 and 2021-22, respectively). The response of garlic varieties to N was appeared to be quadratic in nature (R2 = 0.9914). From the quadratic response function, the optimum dose was estimated to be 92.75 kg ha-1. The minimum number of pre-mature sprouted bulb (2.5%) was noted in BARI Rashun-4 when N was not applied. The maximum nitrogen use efficiency (138.44 and 144.72% in 2020-21 and 2021-22, respectively) was recorded from BARI Rashun-4 with 50 kg N ha-1. Among the BARI released garlic varieties, BARI Rashun-3 performed better in this region. Thus, it may be concluded that BAR Rashun-3 could be cultivated by applying 92.75 kg N ha-1 along with blanket dose of 60-160-20-2-1 kg ha-1 of P-K-S-Zn-B and cowdung @5 t ha-1 in the Grey Terrace Soil of Madhupur Tract (AEZ-28). The population dynamics of the insect pests of fruit crops, namely mealybug, spiraling whitefly, leaf miner and fruit fly were studied in a rooftop garden containing guava, mango, lemon, pumelo and dragon fruits at Horticulture Research Centre (HRC), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Gazipur, Bangladesh during April 2022 to March 2023. Number of insects per leaf and leaf infestation data were collected by visual observation. Fruit fly population was counted using pheromone traps. The results showed that mealybug and spiraling whitefly population were present in guava plant where mealybug population was higher than spiraling whitefly population. Mealybug population was also observed on mango plant. Leaf miner infestation was observed in lemon and pumelo plant. Percent leaf infestation was higher in pumelo plant compare to lemon plant. Mealybug population, spiraling whitefly population and leaf miner infestation were low at December-February, increased at March-April, slightly reduced at May-July and again increased at August-November. Fruit fly population found the highest at July and lowest at January. Most of the cases, weather parameter showed significant role on population abundance and infestation occurrences of insect pest at fruit crop-based rooftop garden. Bangladesh J. Agril. Chickpea plays an important role in Bangladesh’s agriculture due to its nutritional value and contribution to food security. This study examines the growth patterns and instability of chickpea cultivation in Bangladesh over four decades (1984–2023). Using secondary data, the period was divided into four sub-periods (1984–1993, 1994–2003, 2004–2013, and 2014–2023) to analyze trends. Exponential growth functions were applied to estimate growth rates, while the Cuddy–Della Valle index measured instability. The results indicate a sharp decline in the cultivated area, particularly after 1999/2000. However, yield improvements since the mid-2000s have partly offset production losses. Growth decomposition analysis shows that yield growth (96.02%) was the main driver of production, whereas area changes (3.62%) had only a minor effect. Instability indices reveal greater variability in yield compared to area and production, underscoring challenges in achieving stable productivity. Strategic measures to stabilize and expand cultivation area, alongside continuous yield improvement, are essential to ensure the sustainability of chickpea production in Bangladesh. Bangladesh J. The biology of twospotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch was studied at the Integrated Pest Management Lab of Entomology division, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) Gazipur following leaf disc method during March-May, 2022 at 25±20 C and 55±5% RH. It was revealed that biology of T. urticae consisted of egg, larva, protonymph, deutonymph and adult stages and brief quiescent period called nymphochrysalis, deutochrysalis and teliochrysalis. Egg incubation period 2.90±0.29, larval 1.3±0.2 and 2.7±0.54, protonymphal 2.8±0.25 and 3.0±0.35 and deutonymphal period of 2.4±0.43 and 2.9±0.51 days were recorded in its male and female, respectively. Males took less time to develop overall 6.45±0.30 days than females 8.25±0.28 days from egg to adult emergence. Males were smaller than females, according to morphometric measurements. Both parthenogenetic and bisexual reproduction were noted. The offspring of mated females were 1:2.32 males to females, while unmated females produced only males. An average of 62.0 ± 8.98 eggs were produced by mated females and 38.2 ± 6.36 by unmated females. Correspondingly mated females laid 7.0 to 10.0 (mean 8.6±0.68) and unmated females laid 2.0 to 5.0 (mean 4.0±0.55) eggs per day. The observed adult longevity was 9.30± 0.83 days for males, 12.2±0.80 days for mated females, and 10.0±1.3 days for unmated females, respectively. Bangladesh J. Agril. The experiment was conducted at the Regional Spices Research Centre, BARI, Magura during 2020-21 and 2021-22 cropping seasons to investigate the effect of different chemicals and biological agent in controlling f basal rot disease of onion caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cepae. A significant difference in yield and yield attributes was observed among different treatments. The highest bulb yield of onion (11.78 t/ha in 202-21 and 13.03 t/ha in 2021-22) was found from the treatment T7 (Trichoderma mixed compost @ 500 kg/ha) followed by the treatment T4 [Eminent pro (Tetraconazole 12.5% + Carbendazim 15%) @ 0.1%] (12.22 t/ha in 2020-21 and 11.19 t/ha). Significantly higher plant height, number of leaves per plant, bulb diameter and individual bulb weight were recorded from T7 treatment followed by T5 treatment. The lowest disease incidence (6.60 % and 5.42 % in 2020-21 and 2021-22, respectively) were found in Trichoderma mixed compost @ 500 kg/ha treated plot followed by T4 treated plot (8.30% in 2021-22 and 6.99% in 2021-22) while the highest disease incidence (25.78 % and 22.11% in 2020-21 and 2021-22) was observed in the control plot. Application of Trichoderma mixed compost @ 500 kg/ha recorded the maximum disease reduction over control (74.38% in 2020-21 and 77.90% in 2021-22) followed by T4 (71.58% in 2021-22). It is concluded that the treatment Trichoderma mixed compost @ 500 kg/ha could be a better option for reducing fusarium basal rot of summer onion and increased bulb yield. Bangladesh J. Agril. Root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne spp. such as Meloidogyne javanica, M. hapla and M. incognita), belongs to endoparasite, is one of the most important agricultural harmful organisms. These harmful pathogens are responsible for causing significant yield losses in a wide range of agricultural crops, mostly vegetables, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. For controlling root-knot nematode, biological control became more acceptable than any other methods for general users since it is an eco-friendly, effective, economical and non-polluting method with the environment. Moreover, biological controls were being used due to environmental awareness and changing regulation. Different types of biocontrol agents such as fungi and bacteria are being used for controlling different plant pathogens including root-knot nematodes. However, emphasizing on the application of biological agents against of root-knot nematodes (RKN) among farmers for increasing the tomato yield all over the world. This review describes the general biology of root-knot nematodes (RKN), their nature of the damage on tomato plants, and finally the current research progress in biological control by using different organisms as well as their effects on the environment. Three lines and nine testers are used for hybridization following Line × Tester mating design to get 27 hybrids. Evaluation of segregating generation was done to study combining ability effect and find out high yielding genotypes. Analysis of variance showed that mean squares due to replications, genotypes, lines, tester and interaction of line and tester were significant for all the studied traits except days to maturity and days to flowering in case of lines. It indicated that a large amount of variation present among the studied materials for these traits. Specific combining ability is considered an important criterion for evaluation of hybrid. From the result, the cross BS-14 × BC-4093 has shown the highest value of SCA in case of yield per plant. On the other hand, the parent BS-14 has the highest GCA effect among three lines in case of yield per plant. Besides, the tester BC-4093 has the highest GCA effect for yield per plant. Other side, considering days to maturity the cross BS-14 × SBC-2193 and the parent BS-17 has been exploited for future breeding by adopting proper strategies for short duration variety development. Besides, considering both traits (short duration and high yielding) the hybrid BS-15 × BS-9 could be selected for future use after large scale evaluation. Bangladesh J. Agril. The study was conducted at Agronomy Laboratory of Agrotechnology Discipline, Khulna University, Khulna, during August 2022, to assess the germination and seedling growth of BARI Hybrid Bhutta-16 under salinity stress with application of gibberellic acid. The experiment was carried out in a factorial design with two factors: four different concentrations of salt solutions and three different concentrations of gibberellic acid solutions. Salt concentrations were 10 dS/m, 20 dS/m, 30 dS/m and 0 dS/m as control and gibberellic acid concentrations 100 ppm, 150 ppm and 0 ppm as control. Three replications of the experiment were set up using a Completely Randomized Design. Data related to seed germination and seedling growth parameters were collected. Germination and seedling growth parameters decreased with increase in salinity levels but increased with increase in gibberellic acid levels. In case of interaction, there were inconsistent variation in germination parameters; germination percentage, germination capacity, germination energy, germination speed. Seedling growth parameters like root fresh weight and root dry weight showed better results; 436 to 480 mg and 55 to 67 mg, respectively, against different salinity levels with gibberellic acid application. Other parameters like root length, shoot length, shoot fresh weight, shoot dry weight and seedling vigor index were found better upto 20 dS/m salinity with 0, 100 and 150 ppm gibberellic acid but in higher salinity (30 dS/m) their performance was not good.
