Owing to its dual correlation with homosexuality and eroticism, danmei (Boys Love) in China is subject to state censorship, so in a hit online serial The Untamed adapted from a popular danmei novel, the male-male relationship between protagonists has been expurgated. Obsessed with the romance in the original narrative yet dissatisfied with the officially sanctioned adaptation, fangirls create fanfiction, including real person slash (RPS) based on the leading actor Xiao Zhan and his co-star from the The Untamed. Xiao’s fans reported a piece of RPS titled Xiazhui and Archaic of Our Own (AO3) that hosted it, causing AO3 to be blocked in China on 29th February 2020. Since Xiazhui features real celebrities, it concerns moral debates. Furthermore, Xiazhui pertains to Xiao’s fanbase whose acts are interconnected with toxic fandom and the so-called ‘heresy-style star worship’. More significantly, the contentious aspect of Xiazhui also lies in its homoerotic depictions that are regarded as indecent in a contemporary Chinese context.
Typically, film companies produce films that are ready for distribution to cinemas. Film work is the result of collective work. Starting from the involvement of producers, directors, screenwriters, cameramen, and editors, to artistic stylists (production team) through pre-production, production, and post-production processes. Although it is not uncommon to find that film works are not single and sterile works of replication or imitation, which refer to patterns and systems - including film production management and its entities - that have been previously established as a cultural industry. For this reason, the author uses the concept of Meme initiated by Richard Dawkins and synthesized with Pierre Bourdieu's sociological concept, namely: (Habitus x Capital) + Domain = Practice, as well as the cultural industry. The cause of film workers imitating previous works is the rationale for researching the film industry, especially in Indonesia. This research aims to prove that the phenomenon of memetics and habitus seneas occurs in the film industry in various countries, both developed and developing countries. To achieve this goal, the method applied in this research is the descriptive qualitative method. Data is obtained from documentation in the form of film works, especially the film Gundala, which involves the production team. The results of the analysis show that there are memetics and habitus of filmmakers in the film industry. This can be found in a number of production houses that carry out the practice, including Jagad Bumi Langit, Falcon Pictures, and Screenplay. Almost every film work is imitative. The implications of this imitation can also be found in several cases of imitation of film works; in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, India, Japan, Europe, and America.

The Indonesian government, through a joint decision of the Minister of Home Affairs, the Minister of Law and Human Rights, the Minister of Communication and Information, the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia, the Chief of the Indonesian National Police, and the Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency have designated the mass organization the Front Pembela Islam (FPI) as a prohibited organization. This decision has given rise to polemics and various discourse debates. The pros and cons of more robust public discourse are related to the problem of the idea of democracy. Some of the narratives agree because FPI has been considered a threat to democracy. Some other articulations refuse because this decision violates the principles of democracy itself. Through the perspective of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe's Critical Discourse analysis, this paper attempts to examine the polemic of the discourse on the disbandment of the FPI and the renegotiation of the idea of democracy. Several essential notes were found: First, the plurality of responses to the discourse on the disbandment of the FPI was caused by the various articulation formations concerning the preference for the meaning of democracy. Second, democracy is an empty sign whose meaning will always be constantly negotiated. Third, the disbandment of FPI can be read as a concrete form of the ambivalence of democracy, which, in principle, is always fluid to be articulated by any narrative configuration.

Previous research on the brand community has focused more on the marketing aspect, with consumers as the target audience of the strategy. Many startup companies in Jakarta are adopting this strategy internally to increase employee engagement with the brand. This article further analyzes the brand community strategy in human resource management, which has been very little discussed by previous research. By hypothesizing that internal corporate communication is a factor that increases brand community strategy activities for employees, this study examined the relationship between internal corporate communication and brand community for millennial employees at digital startup companies in Jakarta. An online survey was conducted by distributing questionnaires to startup millennial employers and got 107 responses. SEM test analyzes the relationship between internal corporate communication (independent variable) and brand community (dependent variable). The dimensions used in this study's internal corporate communication variables refer to brand message effectiveness, brand feedback, and communication channels. In contrast, brand community variables' dimensions refer to the experience of information, socialization, human-machine interaction, and entertaining activity. This study's results indicate the company's internal communication management's strong influence on brand community activities. This paper looks at the phenomenon of populist journalism using the Daily Mail in the UK as a case study. Borrowing the concept of mediatization from Couldry and Hepp (2017) and hybridity from Chadwick (2017), this paper elaborates populist journalism as an inseparable part of the rise of populism in various places. While the socio-political context is relatively new, the historical traces of populist journalism can be traced to the phenomenon of tabloid journalism that has emerged since the early 19th century. In other words, populist journalism is a new style of developing tabloid journalism as a consequence of structural changes in the media environment.
This study looks into how people who read news online think about it and helps to reduce the amount of false information spread on social media. The goal of this study was to identify the tactics used by the media when confronted by opposing opinions from their audience in the social media sphere. Social media platforms are essential when people want to debate and get more information on news stories they believe to be false. This study focuses on the importance of a YouTube channel run by a global media outlet that broadcasts a conflicting story. The study used a thematic content qualitative analysis on a sampled comments and used ExportComments.com, a data extraction tool, to extract qualitative data from the YouTube channels. The study revealed that positive comments were followed by positive comments and vice versa. The commenters on these media also frequently search other social media for stories with a similar theme and compare the veracity and coherence of those stories' reported themes. Additionally, these commenters were prepared to defend stories that they believed to be inaccurate and assert that the media should uphold the principle of professionalism. Social media acts as a public sphere. It is not only a political sphere but also a place that is free from private ownership and censorship. The study established that the concept of the public sphere is likely to be abused when the media report conflicting stories that may not auger well with their audience. Although this theory guides the participation of users on the social media platforms, since most are free from the censorship of different players, the media tend to mute the comment sections of their pages for fear of further misinformation and criticism. Social media platforms offer people a reason to speak freely and demonstrate their sentiments openly. The study's results demonstrate that audiences play a significant role in correcting stories on social media, and that constructive journalism is required, with the media needing to play a better role.
The song is one of the communication media that can spread messages. In a song lyric, there is a meaning to be conveyed from the creator and singer to the audience. The self-care stage is the last stage where in the song lyrics, it is described that a person must take care of themselves by not hurting themselves physically and psychologically
Amid the development of an increasingly complex and dynamic media and communication ecosystem, press release communication also faces significant challenges. This article shows three aspects and parameters of worthiness in creating and distributing press release communications for maximum impact. First, Newsworthy --how worthy the information is to be reported, includes proximity, recency, humanity, exclusivity, and shareability. Secondly, Storyworthy is how appropriate the information and events presented in the media release are to be told and made viral. It includes theming, plotting, messaging, characterizing, and dramatizing. Lastly, Brandworthy --how worthy a press release is as a branding strategy. Hence, the press release should be distinguishable, soundable, representable, talkable, and marketable. This article is helpful for public relations and corporate communications practitioners and an essential reference for researchers to study the suitability of content, the impact, and the effectiveness of press release communications.
The Covid-19 pandemic has made learning switch from face-to-face to online. This situation makes it possible for teachers and students to interact still and discuss online, using existing internet applications such as Whatsapp groups, Instagram lives, Zoom meetings, Google meet, and others. This study explores student interactions during online learning and describes how students feel while studying from home, especially in the rural milieu. Using a phenomenological approach, the researcher describes the phenomenon and reality from the subject's experience. The results showed that most elementary school students used their parents' cellphones so that social interaction between them was still intertwined. This nuance differs from junior and senior high school students who, on average, already have their device facilities, so they are not too dependent on their parents. The impact of this independence is the low level of social interaction between junior and senior high school students and their parents. However, the senior high school students stated that they tend to learn how to use social media to sell goods and connect with other people from different cultures. Socially, they also have new friends due to connecting with social media, even though, in reality, they are living in the countryside, with all its limitations.
Social media have a burgeoning on our lives as they have become avenues for the exhibition of life experiences, and they also a variety of dimensions regarding our position in the online and offline social life. These factors make individuals play certain characters in the social arena. Expanding on Vogel et al.'s (2014) idea of "fulfilling belongingness", this paper explores to what extent Igbos in diaspora use the Twitter hashtag to construct the Igbo identity and how the Twitter hashtag #Igbotwitter reflects a complex transnational dialogue about Igbo identity markers in a globalized media landscape. Adopting an interpretive thematic analysis and Dowdall and Golden's (1989) method for image analysis, the study analyzed 47 #Igbotwitter tweets shared by diaspora Nigerians. The analysis revealed some overarching themes like "The Igbos as Business-Minded People", "Cultural/Traditional Enthusiast", among others. This study draws attention to how social media provide users with a unique space to address cultural and socio-economic discourse, reconstruct identities, and refute cultural misconceptions on a transnational level. It further highlights how the users attempt to preserve and protect the Nigerian Igbo identity and also fulfil a sense of belongingness in the current networked media environment. This study contributes to the literature on identity construction on digital platforms, and by implication points to the intentional and positive use of social media to promote culture on a global scale.
Contemporary developments in the fields Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Information Technology and Cognitive Sciences (NBIC) have brought about industrial revolution 4.0 and society 5.0 which promises prospect of dramatic progress in human life but also risks complicated ethical issues and ethical dilemmas. It is therefore important to know how future generations will address these ethical problems and ethical dilemmas. Ethics education for Millennial and Generation Z is currently at stake as they will be the ones who will be involved in the development and application of those sciences and technologies. This research article aims to explore how the problem of declining deep communication essentially occurs in contemporary ethics education. To reach the aim, a traditional literature review in conjunction with qualitative meta-synthesis method was applied. The result shows that effective ethics education requires ethical discussions that take the form of deep communication to link its participants’ value systems. However, rapid development and frenzied use of digital information and communication technology (ICT) tend to influence Millennial and Generation Z more outward-oriented, accustomed to shallow communication, and eventually drown into weakened ability for deep communication. Recommendation to anticipate the problem is to intensively deploy creativity in using the digital information and communication technology (ICT) to provoke the emergence of the power of inward orientation through intrapersonal communication and self-reflection.
